So Dumb, I Got Careless....

A store in town was clearancing out all of their candy, something I rarely buy. But you know, a bargain is a bargain....

Initially I WAS checking the back of each package to see if they were ok...but then I got a bit lazy, saw the GLUTEN FREE on the bag and just tossed them in the cart.

I really wish companies would not label things gluten free when they are processed on equipment with wheat. I didn't see the tiny little disclaimer (my fault...I didn't look...)

This morning, after 4 little caramels at my desk at work I felt that familiar hardness in my stomach...told the boss I had to go home cuz I was going to throw up. I'm sure he thinks I'm crazy.

At least I made it home first. And now I have had the big D for the last 8 hours...

Grrrr....

it happens ,we have all done it at one time or another

Once at work I bought a Twizzlers out of the machine, not even thinking  bite into it and "POW" instant head rush. I look at the wrapper ,there it was WHEAT FLOUR

Hope it passes quickly for you :)

So sorry you got sick.

That was the second level of learning about "gluten free" for me.

First it was Dove Chocolate Covered Almonds for me...sick, sick, sick. And I thought Dove was gluten free? Well, it is, but only if it's the plain candies...at least at the time I was reading/eating it. (I no longer do, so please read the label if you are going to eat it.) Since then I have found many things labeled gluten free and have the statement Processed in a facility that also processes wheat. Several times they made me sick, so now I know not to eat any of those "gluten free" products. Ugh. I hope this reaction doesn't last very long for you.

Tender ((((HUGS))))) to you MitziG.

Thanks guys! Why on earth must they put wheat in Twizzlers anyway? I really miss those!

I hate when they label things like that. I hope you feel better soon.

I also had a careless moment yesterday. My boss offered to pick up lunch for us and I asked for a grilled chicken sandwich that I know is gluten free if I don't eat the bun. He thought he was getting a grilled one but got a fried one by mistake. I felt bad and didn't want to throw something away that he paid for so I tried to scrape off the breading and eat it. Yeah, that didn't work. Now I am sick for the weekend, if not longer. :(

I feel your pain!!! The EXACT same thing happened to me three weeks ago - I bought gummy bears from Rite Aid which were labeled "gluten free" and I even read on the back of the package that they were made in a facility that produces wheat products. I remember thinking to myself "What are the chances? I cant be THAT sensitive!" So I went ahead and bought them and finished the whole bag, then it was all over...horrible abdominal pains (not to mention that after an hour I looked like I was 8 months pregnant - my coworkers got freaked out) and was in the bathroom for quite some time...NEVER again......I hope you feel better soon!

Oh Man, Mitzi, that stinks.

I was waiting for something like that this morning myself, but it never came.... YAY!!!!!

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
