Vitamin Recommendations ?

I just has a general question, hope to get an answer to. Should someone on a gluten free diet focus on a certain vitamin supplement. I have started my daughter on gluten free and her sysmptoms have been much less, we do eat a wide range of fruits and vegetables, meats and eggs just was wondering if there was something she could be missing in that gluten crap.

I will start off by saying that what I say is entirely my opinion. I was tested for deficiencies immediately at diagnosis. I think everyone should be. I wasn't deficient enough in anything to be alarming and went on my merry way. I was tested again at a year (which was very recently) and it seems that due to the additional restriction put on me later I became folate deficient. I am supplementing that and only that, as I see no point in taking some multivitamin for a bunch of things I don't need. Keep in mind that certain types of supplements or multivitamins can cause an upset stomach, which is the case for me, which has in part influenced my choices. I also don't see the point in spending money throwing crap at a wall to see how much sticks. I don't need the other vitamins so why should I pay for them?

On the other hand, if your insurance won't cover testing and they don't make her sick, it probably won't hurt to put her on a multivitamin. You just have to verify based on any other medications she is on that there won't be an interaction. The only reason I ended up with a problem is because I had to give up, on top of the enriched breads most people get folate from, my greens that I used to eat by the ton, and citrus. If not for that I doubt I would have any deficiencies at all at this point, and with the diet you describe as she begins absorbing nutrients normally again, there is no reason she would need to continue on a vitamin even if she starts on one.

      Stop eating oats as it did give me irritation.The only diffrent thing i have been consuming are a new probitics which seem to have a fruit ive never heard of as a prebiotic

      It could well be a new intolerance developing.  Does your diet incorporate pure oats i.e. those safe for coeliac consumption?  I find I can only tolerate a certain amount, same goes for dairy in fact, then I start to get gastric symptoms.   Or have you started consuming a new type of gluten-free bread, or more gluten-free bread than normal, that might contain oats?  I remember reading a post on this forum from a woman who had started to eat a lot of loaves made with oat flour and her coeliac symptoms kicked off again.  I am sure you know this, but some coeliacs cannot tolerate pure oats.

      I eat a lot of dairy but its intermittent is this burning so I would assume it would happen all the time. Plus I have been tested for lactose intolerance  etc and I am fine and the other symptoms of that I don't get. As a aside  my dad died last month after a long illness so I wonder if the stress of that might be a influence as a bodily reaction to stress.

      You should be fine.  You may start feeling better within a few days.  Someone who is very low in thiamine may notice improvement within hours.   Did you get the NeuroMag  or another magnesium supplement?
