... I'm not allowed to cook anything whilst i'm sick.

I decided to make pancakes this morning, right? I have to go to the store tommorow and its one of the few things i had left.

I first tested to see if the eggs were still good (2 of the 3 weren't; luckily one was), mixed up the batter, and started to cook them.

The first two turned out well (though the first soaked up the excess oil), so i munched on them whilst the others were cooking. Then my stomach started to bug me (kinda like it does before my GERD acts up). So i decide to drink some milk whilst i was waiting. Yeah... bad idea.

The rest of the pancakes were ruined, my stomach feels like a ticking time bomb (gassy, bloaty mess), and i have class at 8am. TT_TT

I should have just fixed a plain pot of rice, but noooo i wanted to do something more than that.

Dairy didn't bother me at all yesterday -sigh-

I'm not sick, and I threw together a small 2 -buckwheat cake batch yesterday, and they stuck to the pan as if I had used caulk instead of oil. WTF. So for the second one I added extra oil to the pan, tested the temperature, spooned in the batter, and it still stuck to the pan really badly. Now I'm ticked, because I used the same buckwheat I had used earlier this week, which doesn't do this at all, and I make up a single third one, being really careful to not use as much yogurt in the batter, and lots of oil, and yet.... it also stuck to the pan. But not quite as much. I have concluded that my spouse is not allowed to clean my cast iron, <_< because I cannot figure out just what the **** he did to it. It should have been a sign when the eggs stuck first, but I thought they were just being eggs and adding more oil and lowering the temperature a little would fix it.

Sounds like you need to reseason it....

I don't let other people near my cast iron. If this helps, this is what I do and it is freakin awesome. Open Original Shared Link

It works like a charm and my cast iron is now just like having a brand new nonstick pan. I am very careful to remember not to cook anything acidic in my cast iron though, as much as it kills me. It is a two day project, your house will smell funky, not bad but funky, but it is totally worth it. When you are done the pan comes out with a coating as smooth as a baby's butt, and I simply treat mine like a nonstick pan to be sure not to damage it, which is probably a little extreme.

And for the record, I am also not allowed to cook when I am sick. I get all emotional every time something goes wrong in the kitchen when I'm sick and usually end up crying over stupid stuff that doesn't matter and then ruin my food. I'm just a basket case when I'm sick, I mostly lock myself in my bedroom and eat gluten free ramen.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! for this post. I have just "oven cleaned" a pan and was wondering how I was going to reseason it (one that hubs had worked his dubious magic on  ) and this popped up on my screen at exactly the right time :)

I'm still kicking myself. Just after my birthday my MIL was going through some stuff and found an old Griswold cast iron dutch oven that had been her father's and offered it to me. I was like zomg, but contained myself and told her that that sort of thing belongs as a family heirloom and since we won't have any kids of our own (even though I have 2 who aren't her son's kids) that she should maybe offer it to her daughter first. Still kicking myself. I need to learn to shut my fat mouth, not jump for joy like a 2 year old, and just be cool.

Possibly. Your total IGA (Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum) is actually high so you are not IGA deficient. In the absence of IGA deficiency, the most reliable celiac antibody test would be the t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA for which your score is within normal range. There are other things besides celiac disease that might cause an elevated DGP-IGA (Deamidated Gliadin Abs, lgA) for which you do have a positive score. It might also be of concern that your total IGA is elevated as that can indicate some other health problems, some of which are serious.  Had you been practicing a gluten free or a reduced gluten free diet prior to the blood draw? Talk to your physician about these things. I would also seek an endoscopy/biopsy of the small bowel to check for damage to the villous lining, which is the gold standard diagnostic test for celiac disease.

Test results as follows: Deamidated Gliadin Abs, lgA 40 H (normal range 0-19) Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgG 4 (0-19) t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA <2 (0-3) t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG <2 (0-5) Endomysial Antibody IgA Negative (Negative) Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 535 H (87-352) Do I have celiac?

how long does it take for the genetic blood test for celiac to come back? I saw the GI today, she was great. She says I def have an issue with gluten and that my symptoms align more with celiac disease than NCGS, so she's doing the genetic testing, Ordered a test for SIBO but said that's just to cover all bases, she doesn't think I have that. If the blood work comes back negative for the genes, then I will cancel the endoscopy. If positive, I will try the 2 week gluten challenge and get the endoscopy done. If I can't manage the gluten challenge (I had HORRIBLE symptoms last time and quit after 12 days) then we'll just assume it's celiac disease and go from there. She says she does a full nutrient panel on all her pts every year, that was nice to hear.I'm on so many supplements it would be nice to only have to get the ones I truly need! so yeh, really anxious about the test results for the genes!! I have an identical twin sister so I'd need to tell her if it's positive, she'd prob want to get tested too. *interesting note: when I said if the blood work comes back that I don't have the genes, then I'm in the clear - she said, well,,,,,,not necessarily. But she didn't want to go into as we had a lot to go over. I did make a  mental note of that comment and will ask her when I see her next time.   she was very thorough! I was impressed! she even checked- up on some lab work I had done that my Endo ordered. I like her, I am looking forward to seeing her again. I think I'll get some good advice and info from her she also complimented me on my diet.   said it was a very gut friendly and healthy diet

I'm not sure why "colonoscopy" keeps coming up for you, again it would be an endoscopy to diagnose celiac disease, but it seems that Kaiser should still have your records. If you were diagnosed by them in the 1990's using a blood test and endoscopy, then you definitely have celiac disease, and hopefully you've been gluten-free since that time. You should be able to contact Kaiser for those records.

This sounds like a GP who is ignorant regarding coeliac disease. The risk with consuming gluten for several days is that it triggers the coeliac immune response, leading to raised auto-antibodies and active disease for several months. People may not even be aware of symptoms during this process, but it is causing damage to the body. As trents has said, the gut lining normally recovers on a strict gluten-free diet, and this happens much faster in children than in adults.
