  1. Hey Lister, Just read through the last 18 pages! I hope that your proceedure goes well. We're all rooting for you! I know I psyched myself up before mine, but it wasn't so bad. I don't remmber any pain afterward, just being a bit groggy for the rest of the day, and a tiny bit tummy sick. You'll be fine though, I'm sure. As a former oregonian, I was curious...
  2. Wow, um, quite a commotion I've caused. Now that I've learned more than I ever wanted to know about the making of bleu cheese (gave me that just-went-to-the-meat-factory kind of feeling in my stomach), I shall from here on out try and avoid the stuff and stick to my comfort cheeses like mozzarella and goat cheese Anywhooo, hope there's not been any feelings...
  3. Thanks everyone, I will have to put these ideas to use Tried to make some potato bread tonight (and failed miserably, but that's another story in another post!).
  4. Ok, so I've been dealing with this celiac thing for 3 months now, and I think I'm okay with it. But I love bread, and I don't want to live without it. I also haven't found a storebought product that I love, and that reminds me of "real" bread. I have been attempting to make some bread on my own, and so far haven't had much luck. I was a pretty good cook before...
  5. That's nice of them. Don't have a safeway around here, but I emailed Western Family, and got a similar response in the mail. Several pages listing everything that's gluten-free that the company makes. Very helpful!
  6. I am very happy to see how well Outback is cooporating with us celiacs I will have to see if DH will take me sometime now! I don't care if it's a little extra $$...key word being a LITTLE extra! I think we ought to be accomodated without having to fork out a fortune! That's what good service is all about!
  7. hm, sounds interesting Kinda reminds me of a recipe I had for individual-sized cake. Mix a cake batter (haven't tried this since going gluten-free, but I bet there's some good mixes out there) with a box of chocolate pudding. Add a little egg to a good scoopful of the mix, and some water, then microwave it until it's done. Don't remember the exact measurements...
  8. I make what I call a "pizzadilla" for a quick and tasty lunch. I will put some tomato sauce or pesto on a tortilla, add some cheese, veggies, maybe canadian bacon, and top with another tortilla, then broil it for a minute or two on each side until crispy. It's great!
  9. I wonder how effective a doctor's note would be in one of these situations...
  10. I recall reading somewhere that there is gluten used in the process of making bleu cheese, but couldn't remember if I was correct. Just trying to figure out where I got glutened...had a salad with some on it even though I ordered without...I was too hungry to care, but now i'm regretting Thx!
  11. What about things like beans? I know the GV beans say that they are made in a factory that processes wheat, but it's not like the beans are injected with wheat. I always rinse my beans several times before using them. Is that dangerous? Lol I just get them cuz they're cheaper but maybe I'll have to shell out more money. I was at Walmart this morning and saw...
  12. hey i hear ya! i try and do the "naturally" gluten free foods but sometimes you just wanna eat something without all the hassle of making it! you can get a bag of burritos for 2 bucks but a gluten free pizza...5 dollars for one meal! sheesh! it is tough, especially being restricted by diet, to also feel restricted in the wallet!
  13. What about putting in an online order?
  14. Sorry to hear about your bad day Hope things get better. I get a weird pain in my ribs sometimes, but it isn't consistantly in the same place. When I'm stressed, I get very constipated and my stomach aches (like cramps), and I'll get gas usually. I get headaches and pain in my neck and shoulders. I also get really emotional, sometimes anxious. Not much...
  15. What do I do with them? I love potatoes, but I bought a 25 lb bag almost 2 weeks ago and have barely touched it. Not to mention grandma sent me home yesterday with a 5 lb bag of reds, and a few goldens too. Has anyone ever frozen potato gratings? Like raw hash browns? Any "different" recipes for spuds? I think I'm gonna try to make some potato bread. Any...
  16. Ok, so I'm doing a biology research paper, and I thought what better to write about than this! So I wanted to know if anyone could give me links to good/interesting/informative links to articles about celiac disease. I want more than the basics, I've got those down cold. I just need some info on research and the technical stuff, maybe genetic theory, etc...
  17. I love broccoli and I will chop it up real small (stems and all) and boil it until it's nice and soft. My favorite way to eat it right now is to serve it with some scorched butter on top. Yum! Thx for all the chicken and broth tips, I'm gonna work that into my cooking habits!
  18. Does anyone do it? The local health food store here has a section of bins where you can scoop your own stuff (flours, nuts, beans, fruits, etc). I wanted to know what everyone has to say about this. I asked and they said that they can't guarantee the foods' not contaminated but the only way I could is to order in bulk from their supplier, or buy more expensive...
  19. My cousin has a wheat allergy and says she puts up with the allergy symptoms because the withdrawal from wheat was driving her batty!
  20. Anyone know--can you use yellow zucchini the same as green? My yellow plants killed my greens!
  21. I've not tried the bread yet, but I definitely will! I love everything I've ever had from both Glutino and GFP, so I'm glad they've merged. I'll have to find more ways to get ahold of the stuff!
  22. I would take along some homemade trail mix - some almonds (my fave nut), pecans, dried cranberries and raisins in a bag. I also cannot live without tortilla chips, so I'd bring a bag of those, and maybe some refried beans (you know the bean dips you can get in tuna sized cans). I would also bring some home made bread (I love fruit and zucchini bread), prefrozen...
  23. Hmm, I wonder if there is anything like that around here That would be nice! I'll have to look into it! Any fellow Utahn's that have info...lemme know!
  24. Former Oregonian here I'd do a search for Oregon. I know there are a few around! It's a beautiful place, I sure miss it!
