  1. Yeah I am not much of a morning person either, but what I usually eat for breakfast is: a bowl of gluten-free cereal with milk, and a piece of homemade fruit/nut bread (banana walnut, cranberry pecan, etc), along with a glass of OJ. When I was a kid, my mom (also a hypoglycemic) would make me drink a glass of OJ every morning with my wheat toast and cheerios...
  2. AnnaBelle, Welcome, it is such a relief to find this place and have so many understanding people listening! As everyone says, you will get used to this, and having supportive parents helps a great deal. But I know and I'm sure you do tool, sometimes you just wanna scream and reach for the french fries and chicken nuggets (at least I do). Don't do it! You...
  3. Congrats! I know my first time eating out after dx was scary Just make sure if your bf eats gluten, that he cleans his mouth before you kiss him My husband will usually chew a piece of gum after he eats and we're not at home. He'll brush sometimes, cuz I'm still not sure how well gum removes food. But that was a weird conversation to have. Just let...
  4. hm, never heard of it, but I can see how that would be handy. Or, if you have the opportunity to go shopping without the family, I know that makes it a lot less stressful. If not, I do a lot of my research before I head to the store, checking the websites of foods I frequent and such. Good luck to you.
  5. Yeah, I love tomatoes too, and couldn't imagine going without for the rest of my life! I seriously second the motion that you go get some Prilosec You shouldn't have to suffer (either way). Pesto sounds SO good...I'm gonna make a pesto pizza tomorrow with fresh basil from my garden!!! I actually had a good pizza from Amy's. I know the brand gets a lot of...
  6. Sounds really good! I will have to try that! I've been looking for more recipes to make with ground turkey, cuz I like it a lot, but dh doesn't like knowing it's not "real meat". This would be a good way to disguise it I bet
  7. I ate a rice crisp-like bar with goji berries in it. It was good, nothing too special. Learned later there was a bit of gluten in it but I enjoyed the taste of the berries. I know they're kinda spendy, at least around here. I'd be interested to know what anyone else has to say about them though.
  8. Sounds very good! I was at the farmers market this morning and bought several pounds of apples to make applesauce with. Didn't get around to it today, but I am hoping tomorrow I will How long do jams last in the fridge? I love this jam my mom made with lots of lemon juice. I think she was going for the less sugar thing too. It was yummy! I would love to...
  9. Mmm, great ideas! Making me crave thanksgiving dinner early I might just have to bake a pie tomorrow!
  10. Jules, With the imagine soup, do you thicken it? I have tried it before and I know it's not the same consistancy as Campbell's. What seasonings do you recommend? I think I have a box in my cupboard, I'm gonna go check, and plan a meal with it! Also, what do you do with leftover soup? I know it doesn't keep long, do you freeze it? Thanks all, learning how...
  11. If you were cooking for non-celiacs couldn't you just wear a mask (like dr's and dentists wear) to block the inhale of wheat? Would that work? Just curious. As far as the green bean casserole goes, does anyone have a good gluten-free recipe? I've experimented with making my own cream of mushroom soup (one of my former faves) and not had much luck yet. I...
  12. I haven't tried Chebe's bread mix, but I loved their pizza mix, which just has herbs in it. Their cheese bread is really good too. Don't know if that helps at all, but that's my two cents Good luck!
  13. What was in the syrup? I know that when I first started, all I really ate was rice and potatoes, with meat and fruit and veggies for about a month and a half. You might still need to heal some more. I know dairy bugged me until about the third month. Good luck
  14. YAY FOR CELIAC AWARENESS!
  15. Ok, so I tried to make a cake tonight. I was watching food network today, and loved the idea of a lowfat chocolate fudge cake with zucchini and applesauce in it (something I like to incorporate in my foods). So I printed out the recipe, and subbed the Betty Crocker cake mix for bette hagman's basic cake mix. I swear i did everything, I even compared Bette...
  16. I definitely second the epicurious site and the gfutah site. I also like some of bette hagman's recipes (don't know if i'd recommend buying though) and The Gluten free bible (a controvercial book here in the forums) has some great recipes, but not lots. I would also check out allrecipes and cooks.com. Lots of my naturally gluten-free cooking I do using betty...
  17. Thanks everyone! I'm excited to give it a shot tomorrow!
  18. Arthritis runs in my family. I think I'm still young enough to avoid it, although I do have achy knees, especially when I work out. I use this stuff though, and I love it. My mom who just developed arthritis uses it as well, and says it helps so much. Check out this link, and pm me if you're interested: Open Original Shared Link Here's the page...
  19. Ooh, the pasta class will be yummy I'm sure. What kind of sauces will be there? An alfredo sauce, I hope That's one of the things I miss the most. My zucchini bread turned out pretty good actually. A little thick, but good with a nice glass of milk. I'm going to try making some with yellow squash, anyone ever done that? My yellows overtook my zucc's this...
  20. But is it gluten-free? It's my fave and I still don't know if I can eat it, so I've just been avoiding it lately. Anyone? Thanks
  21. I am usually a mildly C person, but when I get glutened I switch to D for a couple days. When i'm really stressed, I get very C.
  22. Non-gluten-free husband and I love mexican food! Tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, taco salad, taco soup, nachos. I will use hamburger, chicken and shredded roast beef alternating so we don't get burned out. I really like to make potato dishes, like baked potatoes with chili on top, grilled chicken with roasted potatoes or mashed potatoes. Roast beef in a crock...
  23. I tried to slip my husband some of the Tinkiayada spaghetti, and he noticed, so I just mentioned that he could cook up his own if he wanted next time. I will usually cook mine, and when it's done, he just rinses the pot and cooks his cuz it takes less time. I have also tried to make more Gluten Free meals. Rice dishes with chicken and veggies, mexican food...
  24. Snickers bars are ok! Ghiradelli chocolate is not. The problem with most candy is that there might not be any gluten in the ingredients, but lots of companies dust the conveyor belts with flour to keep candy from sticking to it. Therefore you have to do a lot of research on your favorite sweets. I recently read that See's Candy no longer uses wheat in anything...
  25. I tried Trazodone awhile back (actually for depression), and I experienced both the weird dreams and the night sweats. I wouldn't worry about this, if the Traz helps you to sleep better. I don't think it's addicting or anything Good luck!
