  1. I've tried the Ian's fish sticks before, and enjoyed them. Just got some nuggets the other day, and they were ok. I liked the crunch of the nugget, but they were a little bland. Coated them w/ ketchup and mustard, and they were great! I've never found/tried any other brand of gluten-free nuggets. Oooh, wish i could find these at my HFS
  2. This is definitely a great tip. You have to know how to use what you've got when you're faced with an emergency, and panicking b/c you can't find a cookbook w/ recipes for a certain food probably won't help . My parents made it a goal to try a new recipe (whole wheat bread from fresh ground wheat, beans and something-or-other) every once in awhile so we knew...
  3. i'm not sure about the ginger. you might want to ask them what brand of soy sauce they use, as some are gluten-free. or you could bring your own (which i will often do ).
  4. i did a google search on this site for "drug list" and found that one: Open Original Shared Link anyone know how accurate that is? yeah, my pharmacy sucks. they always tell me, "of course it's gluten free...blah blah blah" or if I ask them to double check, they look over the ingredients and say, "nope, no gluten on this list"....i really need...
  5. I bought a new toaster oven, and kept the regular toaster for my husband. I find the toaster oven is easier to use, especially b/c my gluten-free bread is usually smaller than regular bread, which would make it hard to get out of one of the old slot toasters. I use my toaster oven for everything! It was $30 at walmart, and included a small George Forman grill...
  6. Right now, just about everyone I know is dealing with a bug of one kind or another. I started throwing up in the middle of the night on Sunday, and our first thought was, "Oh crap, what did I eat??" Then it turned into half a day of diarrhea, and then my temperature spiked. That's what led me to believe it was a bug, which my doctor confirmed. I don't...
  7. first of all, i love your pic little_c i would also enjoy eating somewhere that is allergy friendly. i was so excited when the pizza chain around here started carrying a gluten-free rice crust pizza, and they seemed knowledgable on CC issues. but, when i found out i couldn't eat dairy...had to cross that off my list. so, someplace that can deal...
  8. i would imagine an all-purpose gluten-free flour mix would work (store bought - Pamelas, or home mixed - Featherlight mix). I remember I tried a key lime bar recipe last summer that was similar. I used Featherlight mix, but can't remember if I added anything (like xanthan, baking powder, etc). i'd see if you can search for a gluten-free recipe, just to see...
  9. Yeah, just have a stomach bug. Threw up a couple times this morning, but have felt nauseated all day, so the doc gave me a prescription for it. Never taken it before. I will start out with half a dose, thanks for the warning.
  10. couldn't find any updated info, and also couldn't find the link to the website that lists all gluten-free drugs. before i send my hubby off to the pharmacy, i was hoping to make sure i could take it thanks
  11. That's so awesome! I think I would have gone crazy had I been on this diet when I was in college Your quinoa dish sounds really good. I'm gonna have to give it a try.
  12. I'm curious about a couple of your recipes - mashed potatoes /w carrots and string beans w/ cranberries. They sound intruiging Glad you had a good thanksgiving. I remember how nerve-wracking my first year was. My 3rd Thanksgiving gluten-free, but first without any dairy or potatoes. It turned out great! Made my turkey in the crock pot (highly recommend...
  13. This really is my favorite bread recipe! I made a batch of it on Wed night, half made into stuffing, and the other half into rolls. Both turned out fantastic! Best part of my thanksgiving feast! I just threw a double batch into the oven to have sandwiches and french toast for this week. I love it! I subbed in soy milk and agave nectar So good!
  14. i personally really like blogger (.com). i have a food related blog and a general life one as well. it's pretty easy to use. you can take a look at mine by checking out my profile
  15. Here's the one I'm planning on making for Thanksgiving: Open Original Shared Link And I'll be using this sweet potato cornbread recipe: Open Original Shared Link I haven't tried the stuffing recipe, but the cornbread is amazing! Not too sweet, and very moist. It's my DH's favorite "weird food" (ie, gluten free) recipe! Oh yeah, I plan on making...
  16. So, off to WDW in February. I have read all the posts on here about everyone's experiences dining, and it sounds promising. I'm just worried about what my options are with the gluten-free plus DF combo. Not really interested in eating salads the whole time. I sent an email to the address listed on the WDW site, and am awaiting a response. Just thought...
  17. i'd be interested to see if this works. do you have a recipe?
  18. awesome, i've been researching the diet, was wondering what some good recipes were
  19. check w/ your local health food store to see if you can buy in bulk. i do a lot of baking (even just feeding 2 and bringing treats to the office), so i buy my flour in 25 lb bags. i store it in those 5 gallon buckets you can get at like costco or walmart or an emergency supply store. so far, i have rice flour and tapioca flour. been looking around to find...
  20. Thanks! I like freezing my stock in ice cube trays, then transferring to gallon ziplocs. This recipe sounds great! Mmm, that used to be my favorite! We did that with rolls when I was growing up! So good! Your mom is awesome! How lucky you are that she is so concerned with your health. Hope the holidays go well for you. Oh, how...
  21. Don't know if this is the right place for this post, but I saw this link screaming at me this morning while following a healthy holiday cookie link on MSN, and got so excited! The book is 1000 Gluten Free Recipes by Carol Fenster, and the review made me doubly excited to go out and buy it! 5 years worth of good gluten free recipes Open Original Shared...
  22. These gals have a great website and a cookbook that you can order. Haven't found a recipe I didn't love yet! Open Original Shared Link
  23. I nearly jumped out of my seat when I heard them mention Celiac disease! I say, even if they don't get it completely accurate, they were close, and hey, it's one more time that the name Celiac is mentioned. We're taking over, slowly, but surely! Hehehe!
