  1. I stopped by Gluuteny today thinking they would be open.... As you say, prob another two weeks. But the place is still a mess! And I don't know that I'd trust Eat 'N Park. When we eat out we do Bravo's (Mt Lebo, don't like the waterfront), McCormick and Schmidt (not too often!), PFChangs, Chipotle, or Mitchell's (waterfront -- Mt Lebo messed me up...
  2. yeah, this article said "wheat and other grains". The companion article about Gluutteny (gluten-free, CF bakery coming in August ) was written by a different reporter and treated it like wheat was the only culprit . I haven't been over to galleria to try that pizza at Bravo yet, but I will soon.
  3. Whole Foods, but my regular grocery store (Giant Eagle) has them right there in the regular freezer section. So look. you might be surprised.
  4. WARNING: GROSS The problem with inhaling gluten is that it gets in the mucous in the nose and the mucous in the nose drains down the back of the throat into the stomach. So if you're breathing it in, you're ingesting it. working in a bakery, would mean you'd be ingesting quite a bit. not to mention what you bring into the house via your clothes. From...
  5. My own meals (www.myownmeals.com) are shelf stable and the company also makes MREs (emphasis on vegetarian and Kosher). Although it doesn't appear that the MRE versions are gluten-free, some of the regular stuff is. They're not bad. It might be worth investigating.
  6. I got glutened at a Legal Seafood in Logan. It was several years ago, and I got a wonderful response back from management after I emailed them, but even Legal Seafood as an airport restaurant screws up... I try not to eat in airports because of the crowds and the heavy emphasis on moving people through.
  7. some stores that butcher (as opposed to the ones that get the meat already cut) will also sell you necks at a very low cost. They add great flavor to the stock and are cheap (maybe free).
  8. they are excellent . Much like an oatmeal raisin -- at least the kind where the oatmeal has sort of dissolved. Not the kind that the oatmeal is obvious. But the spice mixture is just right, and they're wonderful (and .75 per cookie )
  9. For the first 2.5 years post-diagnosis, I traveled roughly 60% of the time. I traveled enough that I was on the concierge floor of the hotel chain, so breakfast was easy. I'd bring my cereal (picture business suit and box of panda puffs) and eat their fruit and milk. When I wasn't on the concierge floor, or had to stay over the weekend when it's closed...
  10. depending on the logistics of how the priest serves, maybe the whole wedding party can do the low gluten then the priest can switch to the regular. A little more money, a lot more safety and less confusion.
  11. This is a risk factor. I eat some things that are "manufactured in a facility....wheat". It just means that somewhere in the facility there's wheat. It doesn't tell you in what form or how close. On the other hand, there are others from which I have been glutened and I won't eat those brands again. I personally draw the line at "manufactured on the...
  12. It's a grocery store. It's not so different from Giant (I used to live in the DC area). a year ago when I moved here they had a small "organic/health" area near produce that had some gluten-free stuff. They've been slowly adding to it. they carry tinkyada and Mrs lepers, but they've replaced some better stuff with the "complete lines" like enjoy which...
  13. Giant Eagle, here in Pittsburgh, also carries them. recently they've also started carrying frozen Chebe breads. I miss wegmans
  14. Yes. Some people report having no problems, others report getting glutened. So you need to go over what's in the stuff, especially the tooth polish. After all, you're going to swallow some of that nasty stuff
  15. my exotic name is a nickname from college. We had a Suzanne and a Susanna in the house which was just too confusing. I became Zansu.
  16. And don't forget that the current definition of "gluten-free" that they are looking at is not 100% gluten free. It's mostly gluten-free. Which will actually make it harder to be truly gluten-free, not easier.
  17. I eat the prairie bread (more fiber) and I LOVE the nutmeal raisin cookies! at $.75 per cookie, I don't get them often, though. I agree they're overpriced. The banana bread is also exorbitant, but good (especially warmed up).
  18. They're OK. Nothing special, not awful either. If you're a big eater, they're not very large portions, but you could supplement with a salad.
  19. we sympathize! It really stinks to have your health in someone else's hands and sometime you can't help it/ I hope it was AFTER graduation.... or that you were seated conveniently
  20. if the protonix is the name-brand purple capsule with three stripes, it's gluten-free. I don't know about the pepcid AC.
  21. My first career was in computer science - software and software process consultant for 20+ years. Now I'm back in school working on my Master of Divinity. Since we packed up and moved for me to go to school, DH is currently working at Trader Joes. Gotta love the 10% employee discount!
  22. Of course that could be more psychology than celiac. Women tend to seek community for something like this more than men. Men tend to tough it out on their own . Although I bet there a male lurkers....
  23. Classico seems to be too acidic for my taste. I use the muir glen organic, but it might be too sweet for some.
  24. once I found out how easy it is to make I make it and freeze it. It's really very simple. And If I make mexican beef (chuck roast + Peppers + spices in a slow cooker), I make that first and use the juices as the beef broth in the enchilada sauce. YUM! Might be time for another batch....
  25. I also like the health valley rice bran crackers (I get them at whole food, but they also had them at wegmans when I had access to one). They're a touch sweet, but they're pretty good with cheese or hummus or peanut butter.
