Your welcome! Always makes me happy to help a fellow Celiac in need...especially with restaurant choices. You will find that Boston is a pretty celiac disease friendly city, with high awareness in general. There is a great Italian place in the North End, I believe it's on Hanover St, called Marco and they do gluten-free pasta and will make just about...

ARCHIVED So Delicious And Purely Decadent Products
Gemini replied to Joe0123's topic in Super Sensitive People
I use the So Delicious coconut ice creams and have had no issues with them. I am a very sensitive Celiac also. People can have a problem with coconut in general because of the fat content, which can be hard for Celiacs to digest well. It can cause the same reaction as a gluten hit. I have no problem recommending this to other Celiacs. Try it....it's very... -
ARCHIVED Why Can't You Use Gluten-Based Products On Your Skin/hair?
Gemini replied to dantheman123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess we have to agree to disagree on this one. Celiacs can use skin products safely which contain wheat without ingesting them and to imply that you cannot is silly. To be honest, I have no idea whether or not my skin care products contain wheat because it's not something I screen for. They probably don't as wheat is a cheap filler and thickener and more... -
ARCHIVED Red Wine Made Me Sick And I Dont Know Why
Gemini replied to rutland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good job explaining that, Lisa! This can all be so confusing to new Celiacs and they should never be overly fearful of their food when learning the diet. Fear in itself can create symptoms that mimic a gluten hit. Honestly, if wine did have gluten in it, I would be dead by now as I drink a glass every night with my dinner. That in itself is science enough... -

ARCHIVED Emotional Scars From Celiac
Gemini replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like your attitude! Yes, we all have our bad days but so do many others without Celiac. I was pretty damn sick at diagnosis and actually thought I might not make it. Then I snapped out of that and would not let this disease get me. I had the expectation I would recover and I also kept the medical people at a distance so they wouldn't try and medicate... -
ARCHIVED Why Can't You Use Gluten-Based Products On Your Skin/hair?
Gemini replied to dantheman123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You are correct Dan in that if it doesn't get ingested, it will not harm you. The issue of using gluten containing products is a personal choice one, unless you have additional, topical allergies where skin contact will cause a reaction. This is not the same reaction that a Celiac suffers but many Celiacs have topical allergies to wheat also. I am... -
ARCHIVED Emotional Scars From Celiac
Gemini replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I am not a big supporter of all these emotional disorders people fall into. They are labels when all that is really happening is you are still in recovery from Celiac and are dealing with additional issues caused by Celiac. I know where you are because I have 4 autoimmune diseases from undiagnosed Celiac and... -
ARCHIVED Should A Warning Label Be Made For Celiacs?
Gemini replied to Finally-45's topic in Doctors
As far as the oral surgery goes, I wouldn't worry too much about that. I have had many oral surgeries since going gluten-free 6 1/2 years ago and have never been glutened once. The products used for surgery, unless you have an allergy to them, do not contain gluten. I am referring to injectables used as numbing agents. Even the stuff they use to pre-numb... -
Hey there! I live outside of Boston and go into the city as much as I can. Bostonians are very Celiac savvy so don't worry too much about it if you do all the proper things to ensure a safe meal. That meal you asked about sounds like a good pick but I would ask what seasonings, etc. are used on the chicken for roasting. Herb oil with garlic sounds very...

ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
Gemini replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks, Jestgar, for stating the obvious. Anyone with such poor writing skills could not possibly be in any medical school that would turn out an actual MD....not that an actual MD is much help in diagnosing Celiac Disease. As far as anyone being able to totally recover from Celiac and eat gluten again, I don't think so. I would believe that if... -
ARCHIVED Pacific Natural Foods
Gemini replied to weluvgators's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not everyone has a problem with wheat so I don't think they deserve any Darwin Award. As no one has been specific with the problems they claim there are with Pacific Foods, I take that to mean there aren't any. What really annoys me are Celiacs who trash a company which provides gluten free products that make our life easier. I am pretty damn sensitive... -

I am so sorry that you are having these issues still. Yes, it can all be very frustrating and depressing. Maybe there is something else going on or you just are one of those who will take a very long time to heal. Many Celiacs also have a problem with microscopic colitis. Are you still having gastro symptoms as the hallmark of colitis is recurring diarrhea...

ARCHIVED Pacific Natural Foods
Gemini replied to weluvgators's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been using some of their products for a long time, am an extremely sensitive diagnosed Celiac and have never had any problems with any of the products I have bought and consumed. What problems with the company are you referring to? -
ARCHIVED Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein In Hair Care Products
Gemini replied to kimis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would imagine that if you eat your shampoo in the shower, it would be alarmingly apparent. Shampoo has a much stronger taste than baking soda. Not everyone eats their products and using gluten-free shampoo is a choice issue or a must if you have topical allergies. If anyone is uncomfortable with using non-gluten-free topical products, then they should... -
Coolclimates.....are the doctors testing your tTg or the AGA IgA/IgG numbers? I think the updated test to this is the DGP. I ask because using the tTg as a check of dietary compliance is incorrect and they need to repeat the AGA or DGP tests for that. tTg can be elevated from other autoimmune conditions besides Celiac so if they are using the tTg test,...

Did anyone on this forum who was gene tested come back as a DQ-1 or double DQ-1 and then go on to have a positive biopsy? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

ARCHIVED Olive Oil
Gemini replied to majicbunnies's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My home is not 100% gluten free and I have never had a problem with cc. Not everyone with a mixed household has to worry about this...it depends on how well everyone works it. Olive oil is safe...never had any that posed a problem. -
You can still have low cholesterol from hypothyroidism....I do. I think it was so low because I was not absorbing fats. I still have low cholesterol because I do not eat a diet conducive to higher cholesterol but I still have Hashi's. I think the Celiac still trumps the Hashi's influence on that!

ARCHIVED Making Fun Of Gluten Issues On New Cbs Show
Gemini replied to Kate79's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know your age but maybe at some point you will learn to let this stuff role right off you. No one is ever going to understand Celiac because people are food obsessed these days and will not listen to anyone if it means a dietary change. I hear people complaining ALL THE TIME about symptoms that are text book Celiac yet try and tell them about it... -
ARCHIVED Freaking Out...need Help Interpreting Test Results
Gemini replied to pain*in*my*gut's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you chew your thyroid tablets to break them up in your mouth before swallowing, that will make absorption better. It works like a sub-lingual tablet...some of it gets absorbed right into your blood stream. That way, you don't have to wait an hour before eating, either. -
ARCHIVED Freaking Out...need Help Interpreting Test Results
Gemini replied to pain*in*my*gut's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, I think that is the problem with needing more with heavy exercise....there is no way for my body to pump out more hormone on demand. I am hammered after a work-out but do recover pretty quickly by the next morning so at least that's a positive. Before I upped my dose, I would be really dragging after exercise for at least a day or 2. I wonder sometimes... -
ARCHIVED Making Fun Of Gluten Issues On New Cbs Show
Gemini replied to Kate79's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't offend easily at all and I wasn't particularly upset about this. Considering the crap that Hollywood chews out these days, you are surprised by this? I don't watch new TV shows at all because they are garbage. My taste runs to TV Land where I see re-runs of I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dyke show and all the other stuff that was actual entertainment and...
