Just to add another thought....anemia is another sign of hypothyroid. If you are hypothyroid and it goes untreated, you can easily pop with anemia. It has happened to me before. The thyroid plays a role in the production of red blood cells. You sound like you have a thyroid issue and not a vitamin deficiency issue. Make sure the ranges on the thyroid testing...

ARCHIVED Junior Mints
Gemini replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree...they are one of my standard treats! -
That is one of the key symptoms for hypothyroid. My nails always get very brittle when my thyroid isn't right. Have you ever had your thyroid checked?

I don't even know what to say but know how hellopixies feels. I have a real problem with doctors myself and only go when I absolutely have to. That's about once every 3 years and I still hate it. I have been insulted, b%$@#ed at, you name it yet it turned out I did have celiac and I was the only one who was right. This is all too common today and it has...

ARCHIVED Flu Shot Poll
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think this is a very wise posting! That's how I feel.....it all depends on your health issues and what you feel comfortable with. I personally do not get one but that's because I have no respiratory issues and have never had the flu or pneumonia. I can understand someone with these problems deciding to get one. I had to laugh as I got an e-mail from... -

Bless your little pastry creme filled heart, Teresa, and welcome to the world of the Celiac! You could end up becoming a millionaire if you develop some great gluten-free goodies for the rest of us! You have a wonderful attitude. If you follow the diet strictly, you'll heal so don't worry. The rest of us on this board are here to help. Healing... -
ARCHIVED So Confused...got 2 Different Responses From Truumoo Company
Gemini replied to carecare's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No one in their right mind would label carrots as gluten-free because they don't have to. Carrots are gluten-free and anyone with a working brain knows that....unless they are swimming in a sauce of unknown origin. I think Peter's comparison was correct because you have made statements on this forum saying that vegetables can contain gluten and that's why... -
ARCHIVED London - Grocery Shopping
Gemini replied to sreese68's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Very glad to be able to help! Sounds like you are a seasoned pro so you'll have no trouble. I keep forgetting with all the technology out there, it's easy to look things up from an Ipad or phone. The Whole Foods is not far at all, if you're comfy with tubing it. I love the Tube...so fast and easy to navigate the city from. Get off at Kensington High St... -
ARCHIVED Flu Shot Poll
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's interesting as I have Hashi's thyroid disease also and never heard about this before. I have not had any vaccines or anything since before I was diagnosed 6 years ago so it's been awhile. I am not against all vaccines or shots for certain illnesses but do not run out and get them all when I feel it's an individual based issue. I am a little wary... -
How many of you get a flu shot every year? I have never had the flu, to the best of my knowledge, and at 52, am not inclined to ever get a flu shot. I am never sick any more since going gluten-free so don't see the point. I am surprised by the number of people who think it a crime if you don't get a flu shot. Ditto for the pneumonia vaccine. I have never...

I do the same thing and, as it's just my husband and myself, there have been no problems in 6 years of me being gluten-free. If your husband or wife understands CC issues well, there should be no problem having a shared kitchen. I am an extremely sensitive Celiac also and it still hasn't posed any problems but it all depends on how "on board" the others are...

ARCHIVED London - Grocery Shopping
Gemini replied to sreese68's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Sharon, I have been to London many times and the smaller Tesco Express places usually don't carry much. They do have some meat and produce but it's limited. You may find a package or 2 of gluten-free cookies but these are tiny stores and cannot stock much in the way of variety. They have their use in a pinch but I usually shop at the Whole Foods... -
ARCHIVED My Eyes!
Gemini replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would recommend Zaditor eye drops for the eye allergies. Works really well and it's gluten free. It has the recommended ingredient the doc suggested. I would hold off on taking any oral allergy meds because they all make you spacey and doubly so if you are a kid. They usually are not necessary if you use the eye drops anyway. I have Sjogren's Syndrome... -
ARCHIVED Please Allow Me To Rant...
Gemini replied to Pamela B.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I drink all types of red wine....malbec, cabernet, syrah....you name it, I drink it. I tend to buy American, Australian and South American reds and not so much European reds because I think the wines from these countries are every bit as good as their European counterparts. I could not drink alcohol at all before I was diagnosed because my stomach was too... -
ARCHIVED Please Allow Me To Rant...
Gemini replied to Pamela B.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Why wouldn't you go to Buca's? They have the gluten-free menu and the food from that menu is pretty good! I don't mind attending anything if they offer a good gluten-free menu. I have never had any trouble with their food and I am extremely sensitive to CC. You are lucky that they chose a restaurant that has a gluten-free menu...they never accommodate... -
Actually, Canyon Bakehouse IS certified gluten-free...here is the link. Open Original Shared Link This is the best gluten free bread on the market. The owner is a Celiac also so if you react to this bread, it's probably another ingredient that's causing the problem.

I agree with your feelings here and think for people to say it isn't all about the food is downright ridiculous. You are correct...if most gatherings only served coffee and doughnuts, people wouldn't show up. They get all excited about the free meal. I say this as a person who is not food-centric at all and can sit right next to the bread eaters and not...

ARCHIVED I Hate The Word "disease"
Gemini replied to divamomma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The reason some things are lumped as a syndrome and others are called diseases is because syndromes usually have symptom overlap so it can be hard to diagnose which problem you have. Many other autoimmune diseases, which are linked to Celiac, have the same symptoms as Celiac so that may be why it was once referred to as Celiac Syndrome. Sjogren's, Hashi's... -

Open Original Shared Link Click on "Other" at the top on the pull down menu and you'll have your correct answer...... -
Raven is correct. After 5 years of a strict gluten-free diet, you go to the same risk pool as the general population. This is a subject that really irks me as I think doctors like to scare the hell of people to keep their appointment books full. People should not go through life worried about cancer. Get screened, if that is what it takes to ease your...

ARCHIVED I Hate The Word "disease"
Gemini replied to divamomma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I couldn't agree more! This is one disease that a person has control over and you can turn it around 100%,without meds. How many other issues can that be said about? I do not lump Celiac under the same category as cancer or other problems which you don't have as much control over and requires difficult treatment to survive. I think it's a more positive... -
ARCHIVED Ohh The Pain..in My Muscles? Why?
Gemini replied to chrissygirlca's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree that it's excess lactic acid in the muscles but this is perfectly normal for someone who works out on a regular basis. I weight train and there are many days when my muscles are sore, especially when the weight is increased during the work-out. I view this as a good thing because it means you are doing something with your muscles. I have a high... -
I don't think I could have said this any better! This is my rule of thumb when dining out and it works 99% of the time. When I have been glutened, it usually always happened when I relaxed my standards or was traveling and had limited choices so had to eat in a less than upscale restaurant. There is just no need to add wheat to a sauce when a simple reduction...

ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed With Hashimoto's
Gemini replied to cahill's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To play devil's advocate here.....soy is not harmful for everyone with thyroid problems. I respect your opinion but it is an opinion only and not absolute fact. I do eat some soy and they are not all fermented, non-GMO soy products. I have had Hashi's for 20 years...way before my Celiac diagnosis of 6 years ago. I do not consume soy within 4 hours of... -
ARCHIVED Jaqui Karr's Celiac Books
Gemini replied to Coolclimates's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think most people who take Celiac disease seriously would know to check the label of anything bought in an ethnic specialty store because it most likely would not originate in the States. Other than that, the only vinegar we have to be concerned about would be malt vinegar. The amount of people who may react to distilled vinegars is pretty low, otherwise...
