ARCHIVED 9-yr.-old With Symptoms
ptkds replied to tjalder's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think he has alot of symptoms. Before I was diagnosed, I would be eating a bowl of shredded wheat, and sometimes I couldn't even finish the bowl before I had to run to the bathroom. You should definetly call your Dr and get him checked out. Keep us updated! ptkds -
IMO, if you stay on the gluten-free diet, you should be fine. Your body absorbs nutrients when you are gluten-free. If you are really concerned, you could drink Ensure or something. But most importantly, you should talk to your OB very soon. They can draw blood and check your nutrient levels, iron levels, etc and then go from there. I don't think they would...

Wow, thanks! I was looking at the Chebe mix, and all it is is Tapioca starch, modified tapioca starch, and salt. I wanted to try to make up my own mix, but I couldn't find the modified tapioca starch! ptkds -

I know what u mean. Our Wal-mart used to carry them, but they stopped because they didn't sell good enough. But I just found the Central Market (HEB) brand at our HEB. They had blueberry, but I didn't particularly like them. -

ptkds replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Karen, Could you PLEASE tell that "Mister" to spell Gluten-free Casein-free correctly???????? It was driving me crazy! He/she keeps typing it as GCFC. And tell him/her that Celiacs don't have to be CF. I figure that if I get on there, they would blast me cuz I would be new and I don't have an autistic child! That "mister" person is crazy imo! On a side... -

ARCHIVED Traveling With Toddler
ptkds replied to mommy2twoboys's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You should look on restaurant's websites and get their gluten-free menues. Chili's, Wendy's, Outback, and lots of others have a gluten-free menu that you can refer to and then order safe foods for him. I can't think of any others off the top of my head at the moment (it is a bad night), but others will have more help for you! ptkds -
ARCHIVED Dermatitis Herpetiformis On Face
ptkds replied to hollyres's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have that, too. And it all started after I went gluten-free, and then was getting glutened 2-3 days in a row. I got a HORRIBLE rash on my face that itched like crazy. Eventually a rash developed on my arm and back of my neck. I still get spots in those places, too. The ones on my face drive me crazy the most. They get all red and are very noticeable and... -
Paula, I remember you saying that your dh was the only full blood relative? Is that right? If it is, then he has a right to tell the dr's and nurses to only call him. The other's can be removed from the "call list". You guys may even be able to get a power of attorney or something like that. That would insure that all of your bil's medical discisions have...

ptkds replied to Momof2cuties's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I dont' have any advice, but I just wanted to let you know that I know how you feel! I have 2 toddlers with Celiac, and I am constantly stressed out when I take them anywhere. Kids this age just pick up and eat whatever. And toddlers like to share food and cups! Luckily, the nursery in our church is VERY small (currently there is only 1 other child in there... -

ptkds replied to Cam's Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ok, I just had to update! I used my new pan and made some chocolate filled donuts!! They were wonderful! The pan did fine on my glass-top stove. I had it too hot at first, but I fixed that! I used the gluten-free Pantry muffin mix, and they were great! My kids loved them! I can't wait to experiment more! We need more recipes for this pan on here! ptkds -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Munchkins!
ptkds replied to Cam's Mom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I also have a flat-top stove, and I worried about this. I just got mine today (I am about to try it out!) and I think it will work fine. Each "well" is flat on the bottom, so it will sit flat on the stove. I will let you know how it works later tonight! -

But here is what it says: "Safe Gluten-Free Food List / Unsafe Foods & Ingredients" It is in the top half of that long list of links. Also, here is the direct link to the page: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid=12 I hope that helps!! BTW, welcome to... -
I have actually started have reactions to other foods since going gluten-free, but it took a few months. I know can't have too much iodized salt, and I recently found out I am allergic to ibuprofen (which I have taken several times before w/out a problem). I think lots of ppl experience new food problems once going gluten-free, but less than a week after...

Hey guys, I got a pasta maker a few months ago. I have only used it once (for gluten-free pasta, of course) and it was too much work for me! I have decided to either buy an electric one, or just buy pasta's. So, I want to get rid of this one so I have more space! I will sell it for $10, plus actual shipping (or best offer!) Just send me a PM and I will...

ARCHIVED List Of Alllowed And Not Allowed Ingredients For Celiac
ptkds replied to Melmelsmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Go to Open Original Shared Link Scroll down to the bottom and there is a link of safe and unsafe ingredients. This is one of the most curent lists, and they update it as needed. Hang in there, it will get easier over time. Just remind her to stick to the diet (peer pressure can cause some teens to cheat on the diet!) and she will get healthy. ptkds -
First of all, take a deep breath and relax. Second, you need to go to the dentist. It may just be a simple cavity. If you wait too long, you may need to have a root canal done. So you should go NOW. Also, a common side effect of Celiac is bad teeth. The malnutrition causes the enamel to weaken, which puts you more at risk for cavities, even though you...

ARCHIVED Another Interesting Day At The Doctor's Office
ptkds replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry I can't help you much about the types of antibiotics he would react to. I am trying to figure out my own new allergy to ibuprofen! But I would definetly get him a Med bracelet, especially since he is in school. If he were at a friends house, field trip, etc, then you won't be there if something bad happens. And the nurse may not be able to pass along... -
I drove by a Boston's Pizza/Pasta place yesterday and wondered if they had anything gluten-free. So I found their website this morning and sent them an email asking if they had a gluten-free menu. This is the response I got!!: Hi **, Thank you for your inquiry. We currently do not offer gluten-free items on our menu but do have our Culinary Department...
