  1. I've never had a problem with Glutino products. Although they are not my favorites it's often all we can get in Hawaii. Have you made sure there are no cross contamination issues with ovens or toasters? ken
  2. Thats Tom Baker with the long scarf. My son sent us a dozen Dvds of various episodes he knows we like for Christmas. I did some work with the BBC producer then but never could get on the show dressed as some cyberman <G>
  3. Used to be addicted to the old Pertwee and Tom Baker shows. Have only seen the new ones once since we don't have cable where I am in Hawaii. They have to be great though
  4. I'd be interested in finding out too. My mother is going there for 3 months, from Chicago, and I plan to visit. ken
  5. Both are Happy New Year, in Hawaiian (top) and Japanese. take care
  6. Hau`oli makahiki hou Akemas$#&e omedetou gozaimasu and Happy New Year! Thank you for sharing so much over the past few years. Ken
  7. [Not sure about most of this but I do know Oxalates can cause Kidney trouble. There are warnings about them in Hawaii as they traced the high number of Philippino's on dialysis to growing up eating large amounts of starfruit and bilimbi which are very high in oxalic acid.
  8. HI, Although I trained as a chef in Japan before i was diagnosed, I still teach at the culinary schools here in Kona which are part of the University of Hawaii system. If they have a bread class, I cant go into the kitchen for 2 days after it. We did have a student who was diagnosed with celiac and the administration was very understanding and altered some...
  9. This is a common problem year around in Hawaii even with 6 outdoor cats running around. I get the big sticky traps from Ace Hardware which work really well for us. ken
  10. Hope you have a wonderful holiday too David. Ken
  11. Yumm! Sounds great!
  12. Some depends on the restaurant, the average place uses canola oil with a a little sesame and or peanut oil added. Oil from the rice bran or other grains gets rather pricey for most places. I've found not as much difference in taste from oils as in the coating -- that is back when I could eat regular coatings. ken
  13. Wow I cant remember the tonkatsu sauce. If you send me a picture of the label I'll try to find us some when I'm back there in spring. Usually I'm always there in March but may have to postpone this year as I'm supposed to work in India a few weeks. That might be postponed given the situation there too. the kabocha and muraski imo flakes are great...
  14. You just have to go to a health food store in Japan and get dried kabocha pumpkin flakes and purple sweet potato flakes and use instead of panko. When I do it I don't use as much katakuri (Potato starch) and use sobako, soba flour. Either way works great. see ya
  15. Dont think you have to worry about yeti tartar but basashi (horse sashimi) is a possibility -- well maybe not outside of Japan. Don't get the Calif. Rolls. They usually have imitation crab meat which is surimi and contains wheat. The nori or seaweed, if the cheaper Korean made seaweed sometimes is processed with shoyu -- soy sauce which also has wheat...
  16. They are tolerable but not "real". When we finally got them in Hawaii it was kind of a celebration after 3+ bageless years after diagnosis. I guess for me a bad bagel was better than no bagel.
  17. Thanks for the link Josh. Ken
  18. Nope -- different numbers -- must be the lack of a wisdom tooth that was pulled yesterday!
  19. Just thought I would check by replying to my own message to see if it's also 733.
  20. Just curious about message counting. There seems to be a difference in how the number of messages an individual posts are counted now. One number for each thread? Sometimes I see the same number of posts of 2 or more messages. Ken
  21. For 15 years I was told it was mango rash (The Hawaiian version of Poison Ivy!) and not to eat or work with mango and cashew trees. Needless to say the rash didnt go away. When I was finally diagnosed with celiac and dh confirmed, I was so happy I could eat mangos again that I wolfed down 5 big ones at one sitting! Ken
  22. When they were trying to figure me out a few years ago I went to the docs for some more tests. He told my wife to get me to the ER right away since there was something wrong with my heart. Turned out it was atrial fibrillation which I guess is fairly common but I had never had trouble before and it took 3 days to get it back to sinus rhythm. After being...
  23. Glad things are calming and hope it continues. Have had to photograph many of these type of things for newspapers, I hope never have to see it again. Maybe it is the intestine's being full that caused the pain. I had not eaten anything other than jello for a few days prior to mine. Could nto keep anything in me. Guess maybe thats it. take care
  24. Stick with the patches for a few weeks and I'm sure you'll be fine. At my worst I had to have 2 injections of hormones but that was before they figured out the celiac. It does get keep getting better and better if you stick to the diet. good luck Ken
  25. Its not so much itching for me but I feel it more after a shower so I always put on some of my wifes skin cream or something.
