ARCHIVED I Want To Write A gluten-free Cookbook
Gamecreature replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Publications & Publicity
As I understood it, Sweetfudge's question pertained to other people's copyrights. But in this case it might be best to go right to the source: Open Original Shared Link The bottom line is that copyright exists the moment the intellectual property is created: Put the "c" with a circle on it - you've copyrighted it. -
ARCHIVED I Want To Write A gluten-free Cookbook
Gamecreature replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Publications & Publicity
Well, there's a lot of variables here. You might want to go look up some writer's forums and get their input. Copyright is pretty tricky but it's there to protect the creator of the work - you wouldn't want someone taking credit for your stuff, would you? Then again, I've never had to deal with recipes so I don't know what the SOP is for them. In my experience... -
I've heard that said, though I really can't say. I do know that my celiac was diagnosed a year after gall bladder surgery that never seemed to clear up. But I was also dealing with the stress of having moved halfway across the country. I suspect my celiac was always there, just that the gall bladder condition made me more aware of what was going on in my...

ARCHIVED Got Really Sick This Afternoon
Gamecreature replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That does it, I'm dumping the minis! Sigh. Oh well, at least half of my family will be happy. -
Everybody's different. I've been gluten-free for about 6 weeks and while I've noticed immediate improvement in the way I've generally felt, I've had several flare-ups, some of which felt worse than I did before going gluten-free. Your age is a factor in how long it takes you to heal. The older you are, the longer it takes.

I think some research needs to go into the preparation of these fun-sized snacks. Maybe Mark Summers (Unwrapped) will look into it for us. In the meantime: FUN SIZE IS NOT THE SAME AS FULL SIZE!

ARCHIVED Do I Have To Avoid Wheat/gluten In Shampoo ?
Gamecreature replied to breann6's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do want to point out that for Gluten to have an effect on your GI tract it has to get into your mouth. Just getting it on your skin is not enough. Bear in mind that stuff we handle gets on our fingers and those get into our mouths more than we think. I recall cooking pasta and got too close to the boiling water and my automatic reaction was to stick my... -
I used to live in Eugene and I think Oregon must be ground zero for organic food. I think there's a gluten-free pizza place out there, too.

Actually, smelly gas can definitely be a normal occurance from malabsorption. I know when my system isn't performing correctly, smelly gas is one of the symptoms.

Trust me, I know exactly how you feel! When I started feeling poorly again I was very distraught! I was worried that the initial feeling of wellness was just a fluke! But the flare-ups pass pretty quickly, that's how you know it's not the real thing. Don't forget that while you're avoiding some foods you're still getting the nutrients that your body needs...

ARCHIVED Can Gluten Really "live" In Plastic Dishes Even When Washed?
Gamecreature replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've read that old Teflon pots and pans should be replaced once it starts getting an abundance of scratches. Same for that old wooden spoon and plastic collander. I would think your average dishes would be okay, but I would be suspicious of any storage containers (tupperware) that are showing signs of damage from reheating in the microwave. Those can... -
Oddly enough my story began much like yours with gallbladder surgery and a year's worth of scopes, medicines that didn't do anything, weight loss and fatigue. We tested my daughter for it, but it came back negative. Nevertheless, she seems to be responding well to the gluten-free diet so we may stick with it. Fortunately my doctor suggested testing me...

It does take a while. Gluten has been doing a number on your system for some time and it takes a while for your intestines to heal. I felt a lot better when I went gluten-free and then I started worrying everytime I felt one of the symptoms coming back. Give it a little time and see if it gets better or worse.

Right now my stomach is very sensitive to any kind of spices so it's just ground beef for us. The rest of the family adds salsa, etc. and I just eat mine plain.

I have to agree, there's probably a risk of cross contamination in the miniature product that is not present when the full sized product is manufactured on its own, dedicated line.

ARCHIVED Does This Sound Familiar?

Finally something that makes sense! Thanks for passing that on to us. -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Familiar?
Gamecreature replied to jerseyangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've experienced it, but I couldn't tell you what it is. I had the pain in my right side and lower right abdomen but nothing came up in my doctor's tests, aside from an indication that the lymph nodes were swollen. Since then the abdominal pains have come and gone on a fairly regular basis, but I have no idea what's going on. -
Are you getting enough of the nutrients that your body needs? Do you take supplements?

How long have you been gluten-free? I've only been gluten-free for a month and a half and I get symptoms out of the blue, mainly because my intestine's only begun to heal and many of the symptoms from malabsorbtion are similar to the symptoms I had from gluten (bloating, gas, etc.). Even as I'm typing this I'm feeling a bit queesy and I'm not sure if it's...

ARCHIVED Anyone Around Mchenry, Illinois
Gamecreature replied to lizisgf's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My wife has been hitting the library looking for gluten-free cookbooks. I'm not sure which one's winning the popularity contest yet. Funny story - I had some cookbooks I had checked out and my wife wanted me to renew because she wasn't done with them. However, the library said someone else had them on hold so we had to return them. The next day the library... -
It's closer to me now than the one in Eugene is! May have to visit them some day.

I'll second that. I've just begun my diet (gluten-free for 5.5 weeks now) and while my body is still healing, the difference is great. A lot of the stuff I took for granted before has now ceased to be a problem. Good luck. Oh, and be sure to check out the "newbie survival kit" in Nini's sig.

Or it could be the weather. If you live in a colder part of the country like I do, that is. Now that heat is running, my skin is getting dry and itchy. I've found that using a little moisturizer after I shower does a good job of cutting down on both the dry skin and the itchy. As a guy I balked at the idea of moisturizer, but by golly it beats itching!

You could convince everybody to go to Hooters and then not show up.

ARCHIVED Raiding The Kids Candy Bags!
Gamecreature replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually, I've heard that the miniature Reeses use wheat flour in the manufacturing process. Milky Way Midnight is safe, regular Milky Way is not (malt in the nugat).
