  1. I have never heard of this. The next time I go see my doc, I will have to ask about it. If I can remember, that is.
  2. I don't know how long it has been here. I found it before I was diagnosed, and I don't think I would have been able to manage without it.
  3. If you decide to do the challenge, choose a time when you have a couple of weeks free to be sick. If your problem is not gluten, then you might not get sick. However, for some, being without gluten for a couple of years then eating it again leads to severe illness. I believe that if you become ill after eating gluten, since you have been off of it for...
  4. When I had my gallbladder surgery, my DH was an absolute bear! He would stomp through the house, yell at everyone, and in general be a pain in the _. All because he knew I was sick and in pain, and there was nothing he could do to make it better. Give your DH more time, it sounds like he is trying to adjust, too. It also sounds like he loves you, and...
  5. Yep, I understand this part. I get so tired of trying to explain to people why I am so sick. When I am glutened, I really don't want to talk about it, not to anyone! If someone does come up with a letter, please let me know. Maybe one of these wonderful, supportive, literate spouses that post on here sometimes would do this for us!
  6. I also thought all yeast was gluten-free. Thanks for the feedback!
  7. Hi Carol, I'm Dessa, welcome to the board! It sounds like you are on the right track, now full steam ahead to better health! As far as the oatmeal goes, some can eat it, some can't. Perhaps you should try going without it for a few months, to give your body time to heal. Quaker brand and any generic brands are not good for celiacs at all, the crosscontamination...
  8. If a person cuts calories too low, the body goes into conservation mode and lowers the metabolic rate. Continual extremely low-cal dieting will set a person up for greater weight gain when "normal" eating resumes. Then the person "low-cals" it to lose the weight again, thus setting up a vicious cycle. It is the cycle, the continual weight loss and gain...
  9. My daughter has trouble staying asleep, so I bought her some melatonin. The man at the whole foods store said it sometimes causes very vivid dreams. Has anyone found that to be so?
  10. I think it must be an "intolerance" on the part of others for such harsh-sounding words as "disease." Perhaps they are trying to be politically correct, as in saying one "has a disability" instead of saying one "is retarded." I prefer to call a spade a spade, but not in a hateful manner or tone. Mike, it sounds like they finally figured it out, just...
  11. This is a very good thread, thanks everyone. It is chock full of information and links, with a little attitude to spice it up!
  12. It sounds to me like a combination of the glutening on Sunday and the antibiotic. I agree with probiotics or live-culture yogurt to restore balance, and lots of water. I hope it passes quickly for you, so you can start feeling better again.
  13. As far as I know, it is gluten-free. I eat it on my meat, with none of my glutened reactions.
  14. Glad we could help. If you have any questions or just need to talk, we are here and will listen!
  15. Hard candies and oj are usually fine, but I would ask to see the labels any way. Why are they stoking the kids on sugar during a test?
  16. I have had bright red fresh from bleeding hemorroids because the diarrhea was so bad, but that is all.
  17. Since I get smashed on one glass of wine, and you say that you are not much of a drinkier, I would have to say that your tolerance of the alcohol is low. I hope you had a good time at the alumni event!
  18. Whew, your aunt sounds like a real piece of work! Something probably came up with your friend, don't sweat that one. You can always come on here and talk to us!
  19. Whether or not damage will show will depend on how severe it was to begin with. I don't think 3 weeks is long enough for bad damage to be reversed, but it will depend on how bad it was. You can eat gluten for next two weeks, just in case, then go gluten-free after the testing. It is usually not recommended to be gluten-free before testing, to avoid false...
  20. If it was pre-packaged, I would not worry about cc. If the deli person had to scoop it, I would be concerned.
  21. Hey, vent away! My doc told me not to believe what I read on the internet, as it is all a bunch of hype. I figured it wouldn't hurt me to try the diet, and I was sick any way, so I went for it. I am glad you decided to try the diet test, it is how I knew for sure long before I had a biopsy. After 3 months on the gluten-free diet, try eating one slice...
  22. I quit wearing any makeup a long time ago because it felt like my skin was just coated with weights. It also was full of herbs that I am allergic to, and caused weepy eyes and welts. Is BE something that you all would recommend to me, since I am so allergic and don't like the weighty feeling on my skin?
  23. As soon as I woke up from my nap, I wanted dinner. My husband even made me a baked potato with cheddar cheese on it! I only ate half of it, though, I was not sure if too much food would make the biopsy sites hurt. As it turned out, I did not have any pain from the procedure, just from my bad gallbladder.
  24. Did you use stick spread or bowl spread? Bowl spread is too soft for baking, but you can use stick spread in place of real butter. Using bowl spread would make your cookies runny, not crumbly. If they were too crumbly, then you need to use more xanthan gum. I think the formula is 1/4 tsp gum for each 1 cup flour. Personally, I am allergic to eggs, so...
  25. Yes, you are that strong. You just don't notice it because you see so much of your own weakness. Many of the people I know would not even go to class if they hurt that bad, they would just stay home and in bed. You continue to persevere, that is what makes you strong.
