Phyllis28 replied to cruelshoes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For the main meal you can do a crockpot meal. Something like vegetable beef stew or a roast with potatoes and carrots. Other things to add to the meal that are quick, easy and can be done in advance are: A cheese plater Glutino gluten free pretzels Bake gluten free muffins and/or you can serve store bought gluten rolls if you are comfortable... -
Me too. I am not tempted to cheat because I don't want to get sick. I cook the holiday meals. Everyone eats gluten free.

ARCHIVED Scared Of 3rd Diet :(
Phyllis28 replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lisa, I had to eat very low fat when before I had my gallbladder out. I wasn't able to avoid fat altogether but limited it as much as possible. After it was taken out I was able to add fat back into my diet. I don't see sugar or fruit on the list of forbidden items. Both fruit juice and soda will add calories to your diet but not much in nutrition... -
ARCHIVED Salad Dressing
Phyllis28 replied to eternity's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't use commercial salad dressings. Salad dressings are easy to make. Below is the one I make: 2/3 Sunflower Oil (or other oil of your choice) 1/3 Plain Rice Vinegar (or gluten free vinegar of your choice) Salt. pepper, oregano, and garlic powder to taste. This dressing is tranportable since it does not need to be kept cold. I take it... -

Three Cheers for Mountain Mike's gluten free pizza in San Diego. My husband and I visited San Diego today to see a special exhibit at the Natural History Museum. We stopped by Mountain Mike's on the way home. If you plan to visit San Diego Mountain Mike's is not far from Sea World. It is off Interstate 5 a little over a mile on Clairmont Blvd. Exit... -

Phyllis28 replied to zarfkitty's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In time, receiving gluten gifts will not bother you. This is from the perspective of gluten free Christmas's. I just say thank you and let my son and husband enjoy the gift. -
In-n-Out is in California, Nevada and Arizona. One of my favorite places to eat.

My box of wooden matches says "Large Kitchen Matches" The brand I have is Diamond. They are are wooden sticks about two inches long.
-
blueeyedmanda, You can use your gas stove withhout electricity. Use a kitchen or fireplace match. Do not use the matches that come in the little books. Light the match, put it by the burner and turn on the gas. I hope the weather improves. From Sunny Southern California

Phyllis28 replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

This happens to me every year. I do not take any offense. Your co-workers are simply leaving the same gift for everyone. I take all the gluten goodies home and feed them to my husband and son.

ARCHIVED Thanks But No Thanks
Phyllis28 replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree, accept the gift basket and simply say thank you. I don't expect anyone else to remember that I am gluten free. Another option is to donate the basket to the local food bank or locate a family in need to give it to. -
In ther future you might might want to look at the option of staying at school. I had a part time job in college which prevented me from going home over winter, spring and summer breaks. I was able to make arrangements to stay on campus. During the summer I had to pay rent. I had access to a kitchen so it did not matter that all of the food services were...

ARCHIVED Breakfast Foods - Quick And Easy
Phyllis28 replied to mandy0221's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I agree with the other posts. I have actually eaten most of there recomendations for breakfast. I usually have cereal but sometimes I have pancakes, muffins or Enjoy Life Bars. I make the pancakes and muffins in advance and freeze them. Also, you don't have to have breakfast food in the morning. Quick and easy is anything in the refrigerator, freezer... -
ARCHIVED 3 Years And Still Trying
Phyllis28 replied to mandy0221's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with darlindeb25 and blueeyedmanda. Staying gluten free is the key to maintaining you health. Don't try to replicate a diet containing gluten. This will require thinking outside the standard American diet. There are several threads on this website with quick and easy meals. You can use the internet to locate receipes. I put in "gluten"... -

ARCHIVED Extreme Pain And Bizzare Symptoms!
Phyllis28 replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lisa, Definitely make sure the Dr. explains your test results. According to my doctor when the gallbladder is "sick" the liver and pancreatic enzymes can be elevated. That is why they suspected gallstones with me. I found some relief from a very low fat diet and using a heating pad where the pain was until I was able to have the gallbladder removed... -
