I agree with Momma Goose in wondering if your brother told his doctor that his identical twin is gluten intolerant. There is nothing to stop you from calling his doctor's office and asking the your gluten intolerence be added to the family medical history. Of course, there is the possibility that your brother might take offense to this.

ARCHIVED Canned Food On Airplanes?
Phyllis28 replied to Tree's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I have never had any problems putting canned food in my checked luggage. Blue Ice can also be put in your luggage. The last time I traveled I put blue ice in with frozen pizza and frozen cooked chicken I made at home into my checked luggage. I have a Built NY BYO lunch Gourmet Getaway which is flexable to allow it to only take up the room required for... -
ARCHIVED My Mom Still Has Traces Of Gluten In Her Blood!
Phyllis28 replied to cornflakegirl-1980's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If your mom is able to she should keep her gluten free toaster out of sight (possibly in her desk drawer) if she is not using it at work. I work in an office and I can just picture a co-worker saying "The company toaster is broken, "your moms name" has a toaster, she won't mind if we borrow it. -

ARCHIVED Help! Hospital Food
Phyllis28 replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would provide all her own food since you are not sure the staff can is properly trained to provide a gluten free diet. After this emergency hospitalization is over you might want to contact the hospital to determine if the hospital can provide a gluten free diet. Hopefully Alex won't need to be in the hospital again, but being prepared will be one... -
ARCHIVED Vacationing In Southern California
Phyllis28 replied to Anonymousgurl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Below is the link to the restuarant page of Gluten Free in San Diego. This only gives the San Diego addresses. Many of restuarants also have stores through out Southern California. There is also a link called "On you way to LA" that should be helpful. Open Original Shared Link In addition to the places already mentioned Wendy's and Chili's are plentiful... -
I haven't tried Chili's because my husband and son do not like the food. We do eat at Outback. Each time we go I print off the latest Gluten Free Menu from the website. This way if I encounter ignorance I have at least know what is supposed to be gluten free and can work from there.

Jerry, You have a shock collar, it is called aversion therapy. Just think about how sick you will be if you eat the gluten poison. You might also consider keeping gluten free treats in the house such as ice cream, popcorn or gluten free candy. You can grab this instead of the cookies or cake. It will get easier to resist temptation the longer...

Angie, I looked over your list. I like Trevor, but this is only my opinion. I am sure whatever name you choose it will be wonderful, just like the baby.

ARCHIVED Europe... Madrid, London, Paris
Phyllis28 replied to camila's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I have stayed twice in London in flats with kitchens. Put Self-Catering London into the search engine. Below is a link to the Price Apartments in London. Reasonable prices. Please note that you need to read all the fine print on self catering accomodations. It is not a hotel. It is more like renting an apartment. The cancellation fees are very steep... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Done This?
Phyllis28 replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Although your house is gluten free, she needs to be able to cope with other people eating gluten laden food outside the house. She will be dealing with this the rest of her life. If your wife will go, you might want to consider contacting a mental health professional for her depression and counseling to help her mentally cope with a gluten free the diet... -

Now maybe you can use sibling peer pressure to convince your twin to try going gluten free.

Rusla, I will politely decline your offer of snow. Snow would reek havoc on the freeway system and I would have everyone in SoCal very mad at me. -

ARCHIVED How On Earth?
Phyllis28 replied to uhave2bekidding's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A gluten free diet is only expensive if you by the specilaty foods. Cooking with naturally gluten free food is the cheapest why to go. There are lots of receipes on this site and on other sites. I put Gluten Free and what I want into a search engine to find receipes. An example is "Gluten Free Steak Marinade". I found one my gluten eating husband loves... -
ARCHIVED Deer Pictures!
Phyllis28 replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The pictures were a treat (gluten free of course). White tailed deer and snow simply don't exist where I live in Southern California. Thank you for sharing them. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Cook Rice?
Phyllis28 replied to alamaz's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Start with jerseyangel's process. The process may take more or less time depending of the pot you are cooking in. I just recently bought new sauce pots and it takes longer to cook the rice now because the new pots are thicker. I have also found it takes a little longer to cook larger quanities of rice. My new pots have glass lids so I can see when the... -

I will be having the routine mid-century colonoscopy this summer. I have not had any follow-up in 29 years for my celiac. Should the doctor perform any tests other related to Celiac? What questions should I ask of the doctor? I want to make sure the doctor is knowledgeable about Celiac. I was diagnosed based on symptoms and response to the diet. I do...

I hope you don't get to sick. I was given a sample of estrogen pills a few years ago. I neglected to check with the manufacturer. Five days later when I checked, I confirmed what my body told me. They were not gluten free. Reading ingredients was much easier 10 years ago. I swear the print on the lables has gotten smaller.

ARCHIVED Getting Life Insurance With A Diagnosis Of Celiac
Phyllis28 replied to shelby1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One other consideration for children is whether they may require special accomodations in school. A doctor would need to provide a letter so the school is required to adhere to any special accomodations that your child may need. -
