  1. I don't rely on lists for my gluten free food. I will generally put something back on the shelf if it has any ingredient I can not identify as gluten free including natural flavors. I try to locate products with the least amount of ingredients. For jams and jellies that is fruit and pectin.
  2. Hope you feel better soon.
  3. Wheat Wine - I shutter just thinking that about it.
  4. Yes, it is possible to have pills "custom made". You need to find a compounding pharmacy. I had to do this with one medication when a manufactured gluten free one was not available.
  5. If someone has Celiac Wheat, Rye, Barley and Non Certified Gluten free Oats are poison. I agree with Home_Based_Mom: If it makes me sick I don't eat it. My body is the final deciding factor on whether a food is good or bad for me.
  6. I have yet to be stopped. I carry a letter from my doctor just in case. I don't carry any food with water. The only questionable items might be my PBJ sandwich (on gluten free bread of course), a banana and cheese. I also only bring along what I need for the flight.
  7. It is possible that she has not gotton all the "hidden" gluten out of her diet or cross contamination might be a problem. Is the kitchen gluten free? Have the you replaced the non-stick pots and pans, the cutting board and the plastic food storage containers? It is best to stick with whole non-processed naturally gluten free food to begin with...
  8. I travel some on business. I usually go one place for a week. I rent a hotel room with a kitchen. If a kitchen is unavailable I will look for a room with a microwave and a refrigerator. I premake and freeze most of my meals in single servings. I pack them in a softsided can cooler/lunch box and wrap them is blue ice mats, put the put the cooler/lunch...
  9. I hope everything you plan to do works and you feel better soon.
  10. Cold chicken. You can grill or bake it before you go. There are several receipe for chicken fingers that I have seen search this site and the internet. Also, you might consider taking along Peanut Butter and Jelly on rice cake or gluten free bread. It it best to make these just before eating. It you premake them they are a little soggy. Gluten free...
  11. Thanks for the birthday wishes.
  12. Below is the list of foods I usually bring: One or two loafs of gluten free bread (for just me I bring along 1 loaf per week) 1 box of gluten free cereal, I have had trouble locating gluten free cereal when traveling internationally so I bring my own. Gluten free bars (Glutino, Lara, Enjoy Life are examples) I bring along enough for two each day. A...
  13. I would suggest you contact the administrator of you FSA plan. I agree with Cruelshoes that the difference between the price of the gluten free version and a gluten version of a food should qualify for you FSA plan. The question for you plan administrator is how to document it. It maybe more trouble than it is worth. My FSA credit card it is only good...
  14. Below is a link to a thread discussing strawberries I think will be helpful. Open Original Shared Link
  15. Yes, you can make it without being superchef. I only cook gluten free meals and very rarely bake. Also, I don't buy much in the way of specialty gluten free food. I simply live without baked goods most of the time.
  16. From article: And there are broader concerns. Some dietitians worry about the long-term effects of a strict gluten-free diet on those who don't need to be on it, because in avoiding foods with gluten, people may give themselves nutritional deficiencies. Those who elect to go on the diet need to watch that they get adequate amounts of B vitamins, particularly...
  17. I think Mango04 is correct. I have met several diagnosed Celiac's over the years who did not adhear to the diet. I could never comprehend why they would rather continue to eat gluten and be sick than be healthy on a gluten free diet.
  18. I use the "If it makes me sick, I don't eat it" method to all food. If the Lay's have made you sick remove them from your diet and find something else to replace them. I like Mission Tortilla Chips. The bags I buy at Costco say gluten free right on the bag.
  19. Below are a few strategies you maybe able to use: Contact the hotel customer service via e-mail. Explain your dietary restrictions and ask if is possible to have your food reheated. I did this when I stayed at Harrahs. Harrahs made arrangements with several of the hotel eating facilities to reheat my food but only after I e-mailed them. The phone customer...
  20. The only thing I can offer you is what works with my 20 year on Aspie when we go on vacation. I make the basic plans on when and where we are going. I then ask him if there are activities he wants to do and try to incorporate them into the schedule. Each day he can choose to participate in the scheduled activity, stay in the hotel room with his laptop...
  21. I agree with ShayFL about the lunch box. I do not use the refrigerator at work. I pack my lunch in a softsided lunchbox and put ice mats on the botton and top. Hot food can be put into a thermos. Below are the foods I consider when I pack cold gluten free meal: Yogurt Fruit Raw Veggies Nuts Chef type Salad (including dressing) Cold meat (Examples...
  22. If you have not already done so try comparing Celiac to a peanut allergy in terms of severity. As for "cramping her style" you might consider putting it in terms of choice. "I either cramp your style for 6 weeks or I am very sick for the next six weeks". I choose to cramp your style and maintain my health". I have no idea if this will actually work...
  23. Hamburger Stove top Casserole Make rice adding salt, pepper and garlic powder before you set the rice on low heat. Brown hamburger with dried onions, salt and pepper When rice is done add 1/3 grated white cheese and 2/3 grated chedder cheese and cooked hamburger. Stir till cheese melted. I have also made this receipe with tuna and chicken instead...

    ARCHIVED Medical Records

When I went for second, third and fourth opinions for gallbladder surgery I needed copies of my medical records. In order to make an appointment for a second opinion they needed my medical records. I requested them to be sent and it took two weeks. That's when I requested a personal copy of my medical records and made copies. I picked them up rather than...
  25. Caffene has always given me a headache before and after gluten free. I only eat a little bit of chocolate once in awhile. You might consider living caffine free. I never have to track down a cup of coffee because I need a caffine fix.
