  1. We haven't had the genetic testing done, but our 40 year old daughter has Celiac, as do I. Our youngest daughter (38) had only the biopsy (her specialist told her he wouldn't bother with the blood tests) and that was negative. Although we all know that the biopsy can often be a false negative.
  2. Yes please, it's something that I've never heard of either. Would like to know.
  3. It must be very difficult knowing that you have been contaminated when you are asymtomatic. The only way to cope actually is to remember where the mistake was, move on and try not to make it again. Unfotunately mistakes are bound to happen ... or should I say contamination problems. A lot of time it isn't our mistake so much as not being aware of cross...
  4. Yes, That's the common body shape sitting in this chair too I think we are just going to have to learn to live with it ... Some days it's better than others, but always there.
  5. I've been told in two separate restuarants that they didn't have time for diets. We were travelling at the time and couldn't call ahead. No matter how busy, they should be able and ready to at least make a "safe" omlete or something. Some of us need to travel.
  6. I hope you got her with several, it looks like she is really missing the stuff. We have a couple of feet of the beautiful sparkly white stuff.
  7. This is an important question. Allergies and intolerances sometimes change, but Celiac is constant, and you would be doing yourself some great harm but eating gluten.
  8. Thanks for that Nancy. We certainly are getting large aren't we! It's amazing, and yes time consuming. Just going through the new posts on a daily basis takes up a good part of the morning before I tackle all the other jobs that need doing. Then after lunch I try and check in on some of the new threads. We can only try and do our best without...
  9. Thanks for this, they were quick getting back to you! That's a good thing in a company.
  10. I agree with all of these, but also I've been caught by crumbs in coffee/tea cups from the dishwasher. I suspect that water glasses would also have that problem. I meet a friend at Quizno's frequently, and always get my own cup from the tray, I've sent three back over the last few weeks.
  11. Ahhh Tanya, I would join you but unfortunately I only have one phone line and my computer is tied to it now So, I'd better get off instead of playing online games, which would be great fun! So ... hit someone for me with that snowball I'm going into my sewing room to work on the 'Terrier' quilt for the kennel club raffle. Have fun!
  12. Oh, I always wanted to be around one of those chocolate fountains! Do you think they would let me go to the birthday party too? Do you get the idea that I'm a chocoholic? Yummmmmmmmm
  13. That is funny, the turn around in diets And you have such a wonderful family!
  14. And of course the ultimate snack ..... Popcorn!
  15. Yes, just about worth its weight in gold
  16. This thread has got to be the best entertainment! Rusla, you are just too funny! My hubby thinks I've gone nuts laughing at the computer.
  17. Poor you I just had a handful for lunch dessert. How about moving to Canada
  18. Hello; I'm not a baker, so I can't give you the amounts, but I do know that you need to be careful with the amounts of Guar gum as it is also used as a mild laxative. So ... if he gets a bit of the runs, it may be the guar gum and not a gluten problem.
  19. I know that Canadian M&Ms DO NOT have wheat starch! I certainly wouldn't eat them if they did. Both M&M chocolates and peanuts are gluten free in Canada.
  20. A lot of eye problems can be caused by dust mites, especially in the winter when our homes are shut up more.
  21. I just wash my counters down with soap and water, rinse and dry. I use bleach only when I've been handling raw hamburger, chicken or turkey. I'm not sure that it would distroy the protein, and doubt whether it would remove it any better than soap and water.
  22. Gluten has to be ingested to cause intestinal damage. I have been gluten free since 1989 and when I was diagnosed I knew of no one in this area with Celiac disease. We hadn't even heard of the disease, and I didn't have a computer until 1998 when we finally got a private phone line instead of party lines ... yes, you remember them. Anyway ......
  23. I love a good discussion. I was a little alarmed at the deffinite tone of the start of the soy thread, and the paper thread as well. It would have gone over much better if she had said 'have you heard this, or did you know" in front of the statement. But it's done now, can't reverse it. How about every one agreeing to disagree and get on with life ...
  24. I've gotten lazy, I always carry my Canadian Celiac Ass. restaurant card, and hand it to someone to read. It explains everything direct and to the point, Then I will answer honestly what ever question they bring up from that.
