ARCHIVED Cold Cuts/lunch Meats
Viola 1 replied to GeoffCJ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Feybe's has gluten free right on them. You can't be sure that some in the deli hasn't been sliced on a cross contaminated meat slicer. Especially if macaroni loaf or something similiar was sliced before. Having said that, some companies will assure you that their's are gluten free. I can't remember the names of the companies as I've always stuck to Feybe... -

Viola 1 replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED What Do You Feed Your Dog?
Viola 1 replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Onions causes internal bleeding in dogs, so have to be careful with that if you give left over stew or soup or something like that. I had a Doxie who loved tea. I couldn't make a cup of tea without giving him a little bit in a saucer. He liked it the same as me, no sugar and no milk. Just plain old tea My Keeshond loved watermellon Sheba really doesn... -

ARCHIVED What Do You Feed Your Dog?
Viola 1 replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sheba gets gluten free kibble, gluten free treats, and one or two of those tiny minature milk bones which aren't gluten free. The only people food she gets is potatoes and skim milk. Oh yes, she gets half a frozen chicken neck every morning to brush her teeth. She gets the runs from all cooked meats. I don't feed raw beef because a few years... -
ARCHIVED Cereal
Viola 1 replied to Mal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glutino's has a apple cinnamon 'cheerio' type cereal, as well as a honey nut. And there is another 'cheerio' type cereal called Perkyo's that also come in apple cinnamon. I perfer the Perkyo's because it is fortified with vitamins and also cheaper that Glutino's Both say gluten free right on the box. -
Yes, I eat them with no issues. Now, did you really expect a simple answer?

Peter, I don't have that problem as my hubby refuses to eat gluten free. But it is still a pain making up the summary chart. -

ARCHIVED Emergency Room Bills/tax Deductable?
Viola 1 replied to Justin087's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In Canada you can claim all medical bills. However, it depends on your income just how much you'll get back. In most cases it will reduce the amount of income tax you have to pay. Also in Canada, if you have to travel any distance to see a doctor you can deduct travel expenses. It's so much per kilometer. You just go to your doctor's office and get a print... -
ARCHIVED Heat Intolerance Anyone?
Viola 1 replied to outOfThisWorld's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also have trouble with heat. Much rather have the cold, you can at least dress for that. If my friends and family want to golf with me they have to go out very early in the morning. And we live in Canada. -
Right on! I'm not sure if I've been guilty of this before, but you make an excellent point and I'll keep it in mind for sure Nope, I'm not being sarcastic. I just love this little rolly eyed guy

ARCHIVED Do Visuals (think Wheat) At Restaurants Gross You Out?
Viola 1 replied to brendygirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm like you, I think wheat is very beautiful out in the fields and even a single stock is very pretty. They are delicate and yet complex. Perhaps because I like to paint too. However, I don't care much for spending time in a bakery with all that flour flying around. -
ARCHIVED I Glutened Her !
Viola 1 replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You certainly are NOT a bad mother. You are a sweet and caring mother who was delighted to have found new flavours. Like the others said, consider it a learning experience and carry on. To show you how easy it is for even experienced Celiacs to do this sort of thing I'll tell you about my wonderful Christmas parcel from my Celiac daughter in NB. She... -
ARCHIVED Whining About Weather
Viola 1 replied to grantschoep's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We only have about 2 1/2 feet of snow on the ground. It's beautiful, having said that, people in Colorado and especially their animals are really in trouble. Beautiful only goes so far. I'm sure they would love to send some both back east and to Austrailia. I really feel sorry for the cattle and horses in Colorado, I fear the death toll will be high for... -
ARCHIVED Should Celiacs Get Flu Shots?
Viola 1 replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, I lost my grandmother from complications due to flu. Someone decided to go and visit her when they were just coming down with the flu, but already contagious. A flu shot may have prevented that ... by that I mean the person who carried it into the Seniors home and passed it along to several residents there. Please kindly remember, that if you... -
ARCHIVED Income Tax & Claiming My Daughters Foods
Viola 1 replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've done the tax claim for the last three years. It does make a big difference with our taxes as we are a household of two on a single persons pensions. It does take some work though, so you'll have to decide for yourself if it's worth it to you with your individual income. Note, that I am doing taxes in Canada. We treat it the same way you do with your... -
ARCHIVED Should Celiacs Get Flu Shots?
Viola 1 replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have any of you checked for up to date information? The flu shots do NOT contain murcury ... at least here in Canada. And I believe it was supposed to be taken out of the US shots in 2003. -
I've solved the problem of not sleeping ... just one glass of wine each night does the trick, and I even hear it's good for you

ARCHIVED Never Been This Sick In My Whole Life.
Viola 1 replied to Rusla's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh Lord Rusla You are having quite a time of it. I'm so sorry to hear that, and over something that should be enjoyable too. I hope it doesn't turn you off chocolates for good, that would be a crime for sure. Stay warm, keep some fluids in you and get as much rest as possible. I sure hope you don't have to work tomorrow! -
ARCHIVED Smoking
Viola 1 replied to Mike44's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
In a word "YES" Doctors will tell you that a broken bone takes more than a third as long to heal in a smoker than a non smoker. We have a friend who had many facial injuries that had to be rebuilt. (he shot himself) After trying several times to rebuild his nose, an ear, and other spots, the grafts weren't taking. The doctors finally told him to either...
