IMO, no. Emphatically no. Not only that, I'm only comfortable if I myself do the cooking. There's simply no way on earth that someone else, despite the very best intentions, can fathom the intracasies of cross contamination. Last night I watched my step-daughter, who is pretty good (relatively speaking) at trying to accomodate my gluten-free diet...

Hi Mitzi, Welcome to the Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Forum. My kids are grown, and I didn't contract Celiac Disease until my old age (55). But I can't help wondering how difficult it would be to deal with Celiac children. I know how hard it is to cope with the disease when you yourself have it, it's very hard. But I also know how much I hurt when...

I've thought for quite some time now that scrambled or fried eggs don't aggree with my stomach. It's fairly minor, and I'm not totally convinced. Still, I'm suspect of them. I get a slight tummy ache, and maybe just a touch of D. Only eat them maybe once every 3 weeks or so. best regards, lm

ARCHIVED Are There Any Low Sodium To No Sodium Gluten Free Alcohol Beverages
larry mac replied to Manboy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My homemade margaritas would be sodium free if I omited the salt on the rim! best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Was It Lexapro Or Gluten (cc)?
larry mac replied to OliveBranch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I concur with the previous posters. I've taken a half dose (5 mg) of Lexipro for years with no gluten reaction. Also, I only buy packaged lunch meats. But only 'cause I'm too cheap to pay deli prices. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Is gluten-free Rice Chex Actually gluten-free?
larry mac replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's very unfortunate. I'd definately stop eating Chex if I was you. I've been eating Rice Chex for a long time now, long before they were labeled gluten-free (they didn't have to change any ingredients for that one). And the Corn Chex since they went gluten-free. Never had a big problem with any of the gluten-free varieties. All they had to do is replace... -
Hello KDawg, Whenever I encounter this I'm always at a loss how to respond. All I can say is I'm sorry and I feel your pain. I've only been glutened a few times in almost 3 years, but I know it's no fun. Only once was it truly physically horrible. But there's also the mental anguish we Celiacs have to go through. You get the first symptoms and you start...

ARCHIVED Minute White Rice
larry mac replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We only eat rice maybe once a month. So I just get rice boil-in-bags. Ten minutes is all it takes. For a while, there was a jasmine variety that was very good, but that seemed to disappear when there was the rice shortage and prices went up a few years ago. best regards, lm BTW, what's white and crawl's up your leg? Uncle Ben's perverted... -
Here's an article on distillation from Celiac.com (yes this site) written by a chemist (PhD) with Celiac Disease. https://www.celiac.com/articles/21886/1/Dis...Free/Page1.html

Irregardless of distillation reservations (which I don't believe in anyway), all tequilas should be gluten-free. 100% agave tequilas, by law, are made from only agaves, and non 100% agave tequilas (mixtos) are made from 51% agave and 49% cane sugar. Mixtos can contain colorings and flavorings however. I've never had a problem with any distilled spirits...

ARCHIVED Zyrtec
larry mac replied to glutengal's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I take it occasionally. I also take Claritin. I try to alternate somewhat so as to avoid building a tolerance for either one. I must have evidence that it contains a wheat ingredient to discontinue taking it. Just because "they" won't guarantee it to be gluten-free means nothing to me. It certainly doesn't mean it is not gluten-free, as the topic title... -
ARCHIVED Glutened And Felt...nothing!?
larry mac replied to jennavive00's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've done the same exact thing. Last week I ate a small "taste cup" of soup, probably 2-3 tbls, at Central Market (Whole Foods x 2). The little ingredients sign did not list any wheat. Boy, was it delicious. So, I decided to buy some to take over to my Mothers. The full printout label listed "gluten (soy, wheat, corn)". Yikes! No reaction though.... -
ARCHIVED Buttered Popcorn?
larry mac replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat microwave popcorn all the time. Never had a problem. I like it real yellow and buttery so I only pop it about half way. Lots of unpopped kernels but the popped ones are oh so good! I don't believe there's gluten in there, but you just might not tolerate the oils and such for some reason. I realize it's probably not the most healthy thing one could eat... -
Yes, I always get one. As far as I know, I've never had the flu, even before I started getting flu shots. best regards, lm

ARCHIVED Changing This Recipe To Gluten-free
larry mac replied to dubstogsdill's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My advise is to make muffins with this recipe. Muffins rise better without falling than bread IMO. Buy a gluten-free all purpose flour mix. Make sure it has zanthan or guar gum. Gluten-free bread making is a very tricky business with a long learning curve. At least it was for me, and I'm a long time experienced bread maker. Actually, I pretty much gave... -
ARCHIVED Betty Crocker gluten-free Mixes
larry mac replied to purple's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I made the brownies last night. Followed the directions exactly (except I added 1/3 cup of chopped walnuts & 2/3 cup of chopped pecans). The dough was heavy and dense. They were not very good just after they mostly cooled. Too wet, seemed undercooked. But, today they were perfect! They just needed to "set up" I guess. I also made the chocolate chip... -
ARCHIVED New gluten-free Vodka
larry mac replied to jennavive00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy Vikingfjord. I only use it for an occasional mudslide or screwdriver however. I've never tasted it straight. It's inexpensive, $9.50 at my cheaper than dirt liquor store, probably 12- $14 other places. Made from potatos, cool bottle, from Norway, made with glacier water so you knows it's gots ta be good. Here's a little info I thought was interesting... -
ARCHIVED Dallas Or Plano Texas Great Restaurant
larry mac replied to DallasJayhawk's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
A case of very bad timing. I recently bought a $50 coupon for Laura's Bistro for $25 through an offering linked to our local gluten-free group. Was so excited Saturday before last on the way there, only to find it closed. Damn the bad luck! best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED I Just Licked And Envelope
larry mac replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have we gotten off track here? Somehow we went from envelopes to food. I doubt if they have to declare wheat on non-food items. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Omfg..now Whole Foods Isn't Even Safe!
larry mac replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Was there a particular item that was labeled gluten-free before, and now isn't? I wasn't aware they had ever declared the "take home" food dishes were gluten-free. I mainly prefer Central Market over Whole Foods. But they are basically the same thing, only much larger. I've found many prepared foods to contain "protein (soy, corn, wheat)" in the ingredients... -
ARCHIVED Boston's Pizza Not Dedicated!
larry mac replied to cbear6301's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've eaten hot wings that were cookes in the pizza oven without incident. I don't know about Boston's, but most ovens are an open at both ends design and the pizzas go through on movable chain belts. I'd eat one. I doubt if we're ever going to see a designated gluten-free pizza restaraunt. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED I Just Licked And Envelope
larry mac replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wasn't that a Katy Perry song? "I licked a stamp". Oh no, that was "I kissed a tramp". But seriously folks, I licked an envelope earlier, 'cause it was my mortgage payment. Otherwise, I use the peel and seal kind. Don't think I've ever gotten sick though. best regards, lm -
Happy birthday from your Celiac friends in Texas. Hope you have a good one. best regards, lm

ARCHIVED Honey Nut Chex
larry mac replied to OliveBranch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I almost thought I might have an extremely slight problem with Honey Nut Chex. I eat one Chex variety or another every morning. But, like tb, I thought a couple times the HNC just didn't sit well with me. But, I tried them again this morning (with blueberries) and did just fine. The thing I like about HNC, is they stay crispier longer in milk than the... -
ARCHIVED Log Cabin Syup Now Gluten Free!
larry mac replied to Truleesmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, I didn't know there was such a thing. We don't have Trader Joes here in Texas. I have made my own mix like that and it was really good. Another good thing about agave nectar, it dissolves very well even in cold milk or margaritas. No more gritty sugar on the bottom of your cerial bowl. best regrads, lm
