In order to insure her ongoing good health she should be "officially" and acurately diagnosed. The tricounty gluten intolerance group can likely suggest an MD....and of course Childrens Hopital in Detroit and Mott childrens...

  6. We eat there all the time and never get sick....I would caution everyone, however, that the calorie count for their food is way up there.....a problem for those of us who tend to pack on the pounds!! But it is yummy!!
  7. I think the herring explaination is quite good....its not a different product--just new labling. Most experts agree that distilling removes gliadin from the product and is safe for Celiacs...Ive eaten that product routinely without a problem. 9. There is no question that eating out is a huge challenge for Celiacs....but it is an inevitable part of life for most of us. Its one of those risks that you simply have to take once in a while to avoid being excluded from relationships...its not really about the food. Most of the time eating out is about relationships and thats why it matters. Ive had...
  10. I think the only thing you can do is offer factual information regarding the genetics of Celiac Disease and offer to help find/locate appropriate medical care. but I have come to realize that the only persons behavior you can control is your own and that all the nagging in the world wont change the attitude of someone who doesnt wish to find answers. I personally...
  11. I had almost constant Canker sores pre-diagnosis...even now when I get glutened that is my tell tale sign...Ive never had a single GI symptom.
  12. Chronic canker sores was what lead to my diagnosis---Ive neve had a GI problem. I have tried nearly every remedy under the sun and have found tht over the counter pain releivers such as advil are the best choice untill the sores run their course. Seems to take 5-7 days no matter what you do!!!!
  13. I know I sound like a broken record---but risk is implied in all that we do--inlcuding the food we eat. Each of is repsonsible for assuming as much risk as we feel comfortable with. I , for one, am willing to take a chance now and then with foods that I beleive to be safe. I never ever throw caution to the wind, but I do eat out several times a week and...
  14. It does take a while to get the hang of eating out..after a bit you will develop a list of places in your community that work well. Keep being as careful as you can and eventurally you will find places that are willing and able to accomdate you.

  16. I always found it helpful to make sure that my child did not arrive at the party hungry...We have gotten in the habit of eating before we go anywhere..it just makes the limitations more comfortable. A hungry child is more likley to whine than one who is comfortable full. I fyou feed him before the party and bring along a cupcake he will liekly be just fine...
