  1. I got glutened this week for the ftime in a really long time...I woke up this mroning with a mouth full of painful sores...I know that they are slef limiting but I havent had it in so long that I forget how to best treat it....so far lots of gargling and some motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Someone suggested increasing B vits for a while...any ideas...
  2. I actually think it was a really good article.
  3. Believe it or not--mouth sores are the only sign of celiac that I have ever had--I was diagnosed after my daughter was. She had ore traditional presentation ...stay off that gluten for sure and deal with it after you have the baby. It certainly cant hurt you or the baby to stay gluten-free ..it can only help!!
  4. They use alot of soy sauce in their cooking---and their staff is young..I would suggest that u eat before u go and ust enoy a salad while u are there---unless u hear specifically from them other wise..have fun and pack your take along snack!!
  5. Be super careful of chinese restaurants--soy souce is make of wheat (whod think of that) --there are many gluten-free brands but those are not generally used in the restuarant business...Vegiacs do rally well on beans..lots f fiber and protien..Stay well
  6. Lucky me--I work less than 5 miles from the celiac specialties bake shop...all of their stuff is great --most people go crazy over the donuts--personally I think their cinimmon buns are the absolute best thing ever--im also crazy about their pie crust!!

    ARCHIVED Red Lobster

I have eaten at red lobster twice since gluten-free--I eat out often--both times I was really sick afterwards..I eat out alot and am pretty good at identifying safte places with safe food..I will never eat at Red Lobster again. I would eat before you go--keep everyone company and nibble on a protien bar...

    ARCHIVED Vegiac

There is a web site for vegiacs vegiac.com....My vegiac daughter swears that her diet is healthier than most--boring I think but really a whole and pure diet. I for one, think that bing part of the social scene of your family and friends is worth changing your point of view for. Cant cahnge gluten and other intolerances but the veggie thing should be negotiable...
  9. My husband is really allergic to shell fish--I sent him to the hospital on our honeymoon bacuse I had eaten lobster and then kissed him!!!! We are very careful about kissing....lots of toothbrushes in our house!!!! But i have given up my seafood..just to be sure!!
  10. Can rice flour be used to make a roux..I have a great and easy white suace thats great with chicken or pasta that Ive been yearning for...but i does start with a basic roux..any ideas??

    ARCHIVED Michigan Doctors Help

Both the University of Michigan and The detroit medical center have childrens hospitals. Go to their web sites and look for a pediatric gastroenterologist..when you call to make the appointment ask if he or she has special knowledge of or interenst in celiac disease.
  12. Im sorry you are struggling...perhaps a consultation with a knowledgable dietician might provide a fresh set of eyes to how you are eating and preparing your food....you deserve to feel well and it is possible to feel well again!! Good luck and hang in there!!
  13. I would definetly start wiht foods that are naturally gluten-free and choose one or two specialty items to start with..the taste goods and yucks very from family to family so you will have to experiment a bit. Most kids like just a few things anyway..
  14. Its funny how we all go crazy looking or the best bread substitutes and after a while we seem to adjust to more naturally gluten-free foods..my family hardy ever uses bread sub any more....
  15. I think its really important to have honest and open conversation with children about all the issues that impact their lives...that how they learn to trust thier parents and other adults in their lives. We told our daughter right away and included her in the plans to select new kitchen items and recipes etc..there is definetly an adjustment period complete...
  16. I always hated the idea of my child missing out on an enrichment experience becouse of her celiac..and of course you cant blame the school for its choice of destinations..but a bit more warning is cetainly in order..I think sending a cooler along should work great for 2 days and I would prepare a wonderful gluten-free meal full of favorites as a reward when...
  17. We eat in the Maggianos at the Grove in Beverly hills California--very helpful with gluten free pasta--Weve never gottne ill there
  18. Despite the wide variety of gluten-free breads available--Im guessing that most Celiacs and gluten-free family memebers ismply dont eat all that much bread--particularlly after bing gluten-free for a while..of all things Ive had to learn to substitute I have never really learnid to enjoy gluten-free bread...just sort of doing with out seems to come naturally...
  19. Dont worry--give your self a chance to adjust....my daughter is a vegiac (celiac vegetarian) ..sol cuisne makes a veggie burger that is gluten free--and a coouple of the gardenburger brands are gluten-free as well but you hae to check very carefuoly--not all gradnburgers are and packaging is very similar from one to the other...hope it helps..good luck

    ARCHIVED Bk Fries

There are a wide range of opinions on this--but I do know that many, many celiacs eat(and enjoy) foods made in shared facilites...I know I say this all the time but it bears repeating--risk is part of all of our liives--celiac or not. Raising health children means attnding to their emotional and social health as well. I think eating crakers made in a shared...
  21. The Gluten free lifestyle is such a healthy choice --I dont see how it can hurt! When my daughter was diagnosed as a teen she soon figured out on her own how much better she felt gluten-free. Diagnosed or not it certainly seems worth an earnest effort to see if the family feels and does better on the diet..Best of luck!!
  22. I agree 100%--rest eating is a risk--no matter how careful you are!! Just like driving the car and breathing urban air and all the other risky things we do..so so sorry that y9ou and your child are ill--I hope you are better soon!!
  23. Food-Tek makes these great micorwavable gluten free breads--really!! Waffles and brownies and buscuits. they arent cheap but my celiac daughter found them hugley helpful in her dorm room!! Other dorm room staples included peanut butter, tuna. soup cups. If you can get to a grocery store now and again to augment what you can safely eat from the cafeteria you...
