  1. Hi Pyro, Again I am glad to be of help. I question whether SA sensitivity does apply to everyone, however. For instance, there are some here who just have a tomato/potato/red and green pepper allergy (i.e., the nightshade family)-- and many others aren't allergic to the nightshade family at all. I am grateful to now be able to eat any potatoes...
  2. You are right Etta--though SA doesn't cause a true allergic reaction--it is very like one. It instead causes a chemical overload in certain people. The main way to determine it is through trial and error. The patient has to take charge really though its very possible an experienced doctor could point you in the right direction (I just haven't run into him...
  3. I agree. It really is unfortunate especially since you have a business together. But if you want to be healthy and happy it looks like you can't be with that guy. You are after all driving in close proximity of each other. And the fact he CC's your food by using your cookware is unforgivable given your condition. I had a love in my life that was like that...
  4. Hi Etta--Glad to be of service! EatMeat4Life pointed out the possibility I might be SA intolerant. So I am helping spread the word when it seems appropriate. Certainly no doctor suggested it even though I told umpteen million of them that I got bruises from taking aspirin. Same goes with celiac however. I laid it in their lap and still nothing. I had to figure...
  5. Its very possible you are allergic or sensitive to some things you think are healthy. Many here (including moi) are allergic/sensitive to sesame for instance. I have SA (salicylic acid sensitivity) and thus when I went off all grains and ate lots of zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers, kale, peppers, oregano and basil and sunflower seeds (almonds...
  6. Am glad I checked my email late last night and that my comments helped. Sounds like you are on a healing path today! The dandelion greens help too by the way. In the spring they make a nice addition to salad or your green shake. When I was in grade school a couple of times I had some pretty extreme episodes. One time in particular I remember everything...
  7. I am so glad to hear the worst of it is over for you. Writing here was and is a good choice. Keeping a journal can also really help. So often gluten affects the brain. Creates anxiety and weird perceptions. I grew up with this as a common occurrence. The thing is to not be afraid if that is possible. Deep breaths. My parents were anthropologists so I grew...
  8. You are indeed lucky! I am lucky in that my boyfriend as well as another close friend also cannot tolerate gluten. So we often eat together. It makes us all feel normal rather than weird like we do with so many other folks. Not so with my family. I don't even bother trying to eat with them anymore, no matter what the occasion. They are actually resentful...
  9. Yes I hate this too. Even some of my best friends think I am being unreasonable and neurotic, not to speak of my relations. Its hard to be around--especially my siblings who choose to make it into a real issue. Their last suggestion was that I could have small amounts of gluten to desensitize myself, as if it were a normal allergy. I really want nothing to...

    ARCHIVED Need Advice

Just wanted to comment concerning the not caring and B vitamins that eatmeat4life mentioned. Beri Beri is caused by B1 deficiency--it messes with your mood and thinking clearly as well as causing a puffy belly and aching limbs and sometimes weird nerve problems elsewhere. Which I had/have unless I take co-enzyme B1 on an empty stomach. I was taking B...

    ARCHIVED My Story

Welcome! Your story is not atypical. Most of us have resistance to going on a gluten free diet etc. so ist takes a while before we decide to bite the bullet and do it. And like the other poster intimated, many doctors aren't aware of severe gluten intolerance without it being celiac. Further, just as an aside, many of the tests for celiac are inadequate...

    ARCHIVED Need Advice

Hi Jack. Just to let you know you are not alone, I too cannot be around a kitchen where they are baking and cooking things with gluten without getting ill. Sitting at a table with a bunch of gluten eaters is also a little dicey. I have been known to get sick from someone handing me a bottle of water and/or opening it up. I have also gotten ill after shaking...
  13. Pancreatin and/or papain/bromelain helps many with celiac with digestion, especially at first. Sometimes a good plant enzyme mix is helpful. I never responded well to the really heavy stuff however since I did not need extra hcl etc. Avoiding milk products except for plain yogurt also helps. I make my own yogurt and ferment it for 24 hours rather than the...
  14. I too react to almonds (and other nuts) neurologically. For me it is the high salicylic acid (SA) content in them that bothers me, like what eatmeat4life suggested. Am hoping for your sake that you don't have a SA response like I do. However if almonds and other nuts continue to be a problem for you, its definitely something to check out. Alternatively it...
  15. Does the jarro B12 sublingual contain sorbitol? I found I react badly to things with sorbitol. Maybe you do too?I take country life co-enzyme B complex instead. It goes directly into the blood stream. It has a balanced mix of B's including B12.
  16. He is getting better thankfully--as I hope you are too. I have him taking dandelion/chicory root tea to help detox--similar to what I suggested for you. He's also now on natural things to help his adrenals--like ashwaganda, more co-enzyme B vitamins, 5HTP to help him sleep, more frequent meals. He'll be seeing an endocrinologist soon.
  17. I echo the sentiment. Irish heart is a trooper we can all take inspiration from. I also want to add that you (eatmeat4good) have helped me immensely by alerting me to the possibility of salicylic acid sensitivity. Without your input I still wouldn't be able to sleep.
  18. Hi Irish Heart, I am sorry to hear you are still suffering so much, but like the others said here before me, it will pass in time once you find the right track. I was ill for so many years I don't care to recall it. but now here I am age 61 and feeling better than ever overall though I still have my down days like yesterday after I had half of a papaya...
  19. Hi Irish heart. Nice to know I gave some good advice. Meanwhile I would like to ask you about your experience with your thyroid. My friend Graeme right now is "crashing'. He's taking levothyroxin and still can't sleep, is subject to the cold, has constipation, exhaustion but can't sleep, brain fog etc. though he is quite thin. I figure he's having trouble...
  20. The two conditions can go together (allergies and celiac), but Richard is right. I figured out I have a reaction to salicylic acid for instance which can cause itching etc. for certain.
  21. It could be DH or it could be an allergic reaction to your cleanser. I suggest you get something that is fragrance free as well as gluten-free. Bea
  22. I agree--it is funny! We could all just become "breatharians" assuming we didn't want to eat meat! Though like I said, for me, I actually started being able to handle eating most gluten-free grains and a little fruit after discovering SA's were a huge culprit for me. Whereas before this I couldn't or at least didn't think I could/should eat any grains or...
  23. Just goes to show my intuition was at work again. I don't really know why I thought you might wonder about the candida vs SA or some other allergen question but left it in there anyway. I think the food journal is a good way to discover what might be ailing you. I did that years ago and it helped me greatly--though obviously I didn't figure everything...
