  1. Unfortunately self absorption around food issues is all too abundant in this country. Some people are really supportive whereas for many they just don't get it and don't want to get it. Hopefully your husband will finally see the necessity of paying more attention to what is going on . It is a major change and inconvenience to the "normal" way of doing things...
  2. I can't eat figs or prunes either or any dried fruit for that matter though prunes and figs seem to be worse. My understanding is sometimes they dust the ones that are more processed with gluten. But apart form all that, even if they don't there is the whole fungal yeast reaction that I get to fried fruits like that. I can handle eating plums thus better...
  3. Yeah, similarly I was at whole food tonight and saw all the goodies they sell and felt a moment of sweet nostalgia. But I reminded myself how its a good thing I don't eat that stuff anymore. I am in much better shape than most people my age after all largely due to avoiding gluten, sugar and a variety of allergens -- as well as continuing to go for walks...
  4. Not to contradict, but I think going gluten free plus also having to avoid a host of other allergens does make it a lot more difficult if not almost impossible to eat out. Having an allergy to carrots does not make me react if there is a speck of carrot around if you get my drift. I could live with that and my nut allergies, fermented food intolerance, nightshade...
  5. I suggest perhaps then you just save it for that rainy day for when somehow or other you get glutened by accident. It happens. Maybe you won't react because you have healed so much. Even the Merck Manual says celiac is insidious after all. It takes a while to develop on either end no doubt. Bea
  6. I think the liquid sea minerals I suggested have plenty of salt in them as well as electrolytes, which is what I think is needed in the water at least for part of the day (I do it twice in a glass of water with my other supplements, but it could be squirted into your water bottles for the day)--i.e., concentrace trace mineral drops. Bea
  7. My eldest sister got inadvertently glutened staying at my mother's after being completely off gluten for over two years. She became ill with a virus as well as D. It took her one and a half months to get over it. Not saying this will happen to you, but be forewarned. I suggest you have plenty of digestive enzymes around plus pro-biotics and either marshmallow...
  8. My niece had endometriosis. It was a very big deal having her second child. She had a hysterectomy after. She also had a hip replacement in her mid forties due to a bone that became infected. Recently she has discovered she too is gluten intolerant. Bea
  9. I like your story, very creative, and no doubt very true. I experiment too. I look at other recipes to get an idea of what to do. Then write down the ingredients and amounts as I go. It really helps to learn what does what as said. You can tinker with the recipe then. There are a number of places on the internet that have good gluten free recipes, especially...
  10. Just have to say that the remedies I suggested worked great for me--especially the extra (at first cooked) vegetables, no gluten, and a gentle gluten free bulking agent like the fresh gound flax. Start slow if you are sensitive. The marshmallow root and/or slippery elm really heal and sooth the intestines, getting rid of any inflammation, plus they are...
  11. I used to have intestinal adhesions. They went away by change of diet going off all trace glutens. Also eating more vegetables and taking fresh ground up flax seed (1 tablespoon in your coffee grinder and then grind; best if also add 1/4 tsp. apple pectin before grinding) and mix in water, then chase with more water. It also helps to take something like nattokinase...
  12. I have reacted to rice and so has my ex boyfriend. It now seems to be OK for me as long as its brown rice and I don't have it every day. Similar to chicken. Of course organic is a lot better. We are all different however since some here need to only use white rice... Its good to vary one's diet and not eat the same thing every single day. If you are prone...
  13. Unfortunately its a myth a lot of doctors still believe in. It did cause me years of suffering with generally poor health, poor memory and even sometimes seeing people who weren't actually there, eventually kidney inflammation and poor skin and finally joint problems. Now all that is gone so its definitely worth being off gluten even though its a pain...
  14. Hi Ursa, So how do you describe a person that never really relaxes and doesn't sleep? My friend did the Wilson's Thyroid Syndrome officially for a couple of years and still uses herbs. He has been checked and they find his adrenals are OK. He finds he must still take thyroid medicine but at a reduced dose. All I am suggesting is that in a case like that...
  15. Damn! Is that right? I imagine using a good mask and then clean up. And use vinyl rather than latex gloves due to gluten in the powder they often put in the latex gloves. But wow. No wonder I have been having problems at work, between that and Fix All, pre mixed plaster and I hear sheetrock. Where will it end? Bea
  16. My ex boyfriend has had both celiac and adrenal exhaustion as well as a low thyroid and a tendency toward RH if he eats the wrong things (sugar, fried foods etc.)(after which he then takes the detox herbs which really do help against the RH). Now that he is on the anti gluten diet etc. his low thyroid problem has greatly lessened although he is still...
  17. Thanks you guys! I really do need to write that book. Bea
  18. The reason I switched to vinyl gloves is that the latex ones always make my hands sweat plus the latex becomes discolored (yellow/brown and blotchy). I figured something weird was going on... Its good to know that it was probably the gluten. Now I find it can be in sheetrock too! Bea
  19. I agree, the social part can be really hard. It really teaches you who your friends are (and the ones who are not)!).But even that in a way is good to really know since it could save you years of time. Recently for instance I was going to date this guy and he freaked when he found out how severe my "allergies" could be since it might impact some or his...
  20. Besides using electrolytes and fruit juice etc. I suggest you all consider using slippery elm and/or marshmallow root caps to help heal and soothe and rehydrate your intestines and thus your whole body. If your villi are in really bad shape also consider using bromelain/papain caps between meals as a fibronylitic agent (i.e., reduces swelling and heals scar...
  21. I have had problems with latex paint for years though am a bit better with it now. I always thought it was the formaldehyde. I use detox herbs to help counteract the effect. Once the house or whatever has degassed it doesn't bother me. I definitely have had problems with pre-mixed plaster. Its much better (safer) to use the real plaster instead, especially...
  22. Even the slightest exposure to gluten can create an auto immune response for someone with celiac. I suggest looking at your face and hand creams, shaving material, soaps and the usual suspects like old iron pans, toaster, wooden chopping boards and bowls, vitamin fillers etc. for wheat based tocopherols, starch etc. Another big killer is caramel flavoring...
  23. Seems like if you make your own gluten free bird feed others might want to buy it too. Bea
  24. It is very possible to be very allergic to gluten and not have celiac. It is a little easier to live with though in many ways its pretty much the same. The difference I think is that you react less to trace amounts of gluten. Let's hope you are that lucky. Sounds like your doctors should be able to do some tests for you to determine what is what. Part of...
  25. Just wanted to report eating a more Paleo diet by going off all grains and more vegetables plus fresh gound flax seed so far seems to be helping reduce my "itchy b%$@#ies" a great deal. For now I am avoiding fruit and yogurt as well. This should help cure the candida/fungus amongus and seems to be making a big difference even in the crack as well as the...
