  1. So glad to hear that the adzuki beans are helping you Caroline. That truly is wonderful! I haven't consciously noticed the weight loss myself, however they have made me feel a lot better--plus come to think of it, I now can wear my pants I had puffed out of this last fall due to excess water weight no doubt. I now can eat chicken again by the way, though...
  2. I so relate. Funny how often thyroid disease goes away once one is on a gluten free diet. My co-worker and good friend Graeme used to have Hashimotos. That is not supposed to happen: "Used to". Though he still has a thyroid problem, he no longer has the antibodies for Hashimotos. He has been on a strict gluten-free diet the last two or three years. My...
  3. I had a doc years ago who thought I had a low thyroid and put me on thyroxin. I developed too high a thyroid that year as a result. My eyes were even bugging out. I ended up having to take Pituitone from my naturopath up in Oregon to get my pituitary to release the necessary hormones to stimulate the thyroid. Since then I have a medium thyroid going halfway...
  4. I tend to suffer from constipation too even after all this time if I don[t take certain measures. I usually take a little extra magnesium citrate with my other minerals and vitamins plus often drink dandelion tea before or around meal times--both of which help out a lot. The dandelion root is very good for the liver by the way, which helps it process...
  5. Sounds good to me too. With the meat, if you can, try cutting back on the fat part and see if it helps. Here's hoping you don't have to get rid of gluten entirely and that these changes you are making will be enough. If not, well, I think now you have a better idea of what to do. Bea
  6. I suggest just eating plain brown cooked rice, steamed or boiled veggies and skinless cooked chicken for a while to calm everything down. Then later on you can experiment with adding in a food item one at a time every two or three days or so, or even just once a week. Avoid sugar like the plague, as well as processed foods. Keep a food diary and also note...
  7. Here's a link concerning liver and gall bladder disease being linked to celiac. It happens a lot apparently because the first thing damaged for the villi is their ability to absorb/deal with fat. This then really stresses out the liver etc. It so amazes me that more doctors don't just see this, but so many live in some other dimension I won't even comment...
  8. That is a great idea mushroom--though now they have those backpacks with wheels too. That is what I used in NYC a few years ago when I went on vacation. It went with me everywhere. I too could not carry anything on my back without severe pain. By the way, in retrospect, the fact I needed to be completely gluten free but did not know it added to my distress...
  9. I think maybe you should see a naturopath. The following suggestions in the meantime might help you out: To me it sounds like your liver is stressed as well as your bowels. I bet if you ate home made cultured foods it would help you out--like unpasteurized yogurt and/or sauerkraut--esp. if you have ever had a lot of antibiotics and/or were bottle fed...
  10. Mamaw is right--other allergens could be additional culprits. You should also look into possible additional sources of being trace glutened too. I had to stop using my oven since the self cleaning cycle did not work. I bought a largish dedicated toaster oven to replace it. I also had to stop using lip balm (I use petroleum jelly), change my lipstick, and...
  11. I think Prickly Pear is right. A compounding pharmacy is a good idea. If you have the cash sometime you might want to consider employing a naturopath. They are more likely to be with it concerning these issues as compared to the standard AMA practices. You just might find there are alternatives for treating the strep -- or at least something that might...
  12. If you don't have DH or certain kinds of thyroid problems, some iodine in the diet is a good idea. I too use sea salt. How I get my extra iodine now and then is to use seaweed in my soups. I also eat a fair amount of cabbage and brussel sprouts. Bea
  13. So how are you guys doing off the milk products now that its a few days later. A lot better I hope! Bea
  14. Something you can do for yourself at home would be to investigate acupressure. It might help with the pain if nothing else. It also can help with detoxing, especially at the base between the big toe and the second toe on top of the foot.
  15. Just want to add that even though you need to gain weight, its wise not to eat too much grease. I am discovering that eating heavier meats and butter frequently was not good for me. I ended up stressing my liver and gall bladder. Many people here get gallstones probably in part due to leaky gut (due to the damaged villi from celiac or severe gluten intolerance...
  16. I made a soup using a chopped leek, 5 large stalks of chopped celery, 1/4 chopped cabbage with already cooked brown rice, a good bunch of shrimp and seaweed with a bunch of chopped parsley and 5 large cloves of minced garlic and a big dollop of gluten free miso. Tasty and lovely! Great for my ailing liver and gall bladder as well as everything else. My...
  17. Very good advice by Takala and others. Sticking with the basics is really the best. Even with the brown rice I find its necessary to really wash it well several times before cooking. I also make sure I always wash my fruits and vegetables 3 times before eating just to make sure all the gluten from stray hands at the store are not still on them. You just...
  18. These stories are so amazing--they make me cry for all of us who suffered without anyone to help. Thankfully now people are starting to recognize this condition earlier on. However in my family there is still a lot of denial and thus a lot of continued suffering. But there are other people that I know (including my boyfriend) who do see and hear and are...
  19. I'm happy to hear you and your sister are starting to feel better being off the cheese etc. This is really great news! At some point you might want to figure out whether or not it is the lactose or the casein or both. If it is just the lactose, you can have things like that plain home made 24 hour yogurt I mentioned. But this is for later on. For now...
  20. You could try a semi macrobiotic diet. Of course it includes a lot of rice. Hopefully that won't be a problem. If it is, then the paleo diet may be for you. You can add in some squash and roots for the carbs instead of rice etc. Still consider you might have candida overgrowth. Signs of it are excessive tiredness, making bad smells, a white tongue (though...
  21. Stupid me--what is EE?? Oh, now I see it. Again seems like sugar could be a big culprit. Dandelion root tea should also help by helping create better digestion as well as cleaning out toxins in the liver and kidneys. Bea
  22. I am glad to hear you are willing to make some dietary changes, and have the time and focus to do it. Good for you! I think soon you will likely start feeling a lot better. Perhaps if you are able to rectify yourself, it will inspire your sister to go off sugary things if nothing else... And yes, I think given your condition(s) going off sugar(s) is a...
  23. Dear Noodle, I feel for your condition and concern and in fact I am glad you started this discussion. Most intimately in fact since I am going through my own liver and gall bladder detox. Mine is self administered however. I do have an old book of Xandria's on detoxing, and it looks pretty good. I agree with you about it being best in these matters not...
  24. These are great links--thankyou! Bea
  25. Prickly Pear--all excellent suggestions. I will add one to the food journal, its a good idea to take your pulse before, right after and a couple of hours after eating. This is called the Coco pulse test. It helped me determine a lot of my food sensitivities years ago. I was told I was unusual in that I sometimes reacted to certain foods eaten together but...
