ARCHIVED gluten-free Bisquick
TrillumHunter replied to BcG3987's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
She's got an axe to grind. Yes, Bisquick is white flour awfulness, but it does make a crunchy golden crust when you follow the directions. It isn't cheap, it isn't great, but it comes in very handy in a pinch and is in ALL the grocery stores where I live. -
ARCHIVED Canyon Bakehouse Hamburger Buns
TrillumHunter replied to larry mac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fantastic to hear as I am leaving to get some shortly! Now I can blame you you Larry Mac if I don't like them. -
ARCHIVED Hgba1C And False Results With Iron And B12
TrillumHunter posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Anyone have any experience with this? Once again, I have a dr insisting on checking my A1c despite having passed a glucose tolerance test on THREE different occasions. I allowed her to draw it and am now reading that the results can be skewed by iron/b12 anemia. HELLO! Her office sent me to a hematologist for iron infusion and she had just given me a... -
ARCHIVED Hard Topic To Discuss Tmi Sorry
TrillumHunter replied to cecilia celiac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is it possible you have a yeast infection? That can cause a burning type of pain and is common in folks with frequent diarrhea. Also, baby wipes might not be the best thing for broken skin. At home, you might try using a squirt bottle with warm water and very little mild soap followed by PATTING dry. Maybe save the wipes for outings. Keep after... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Being "over Diagnosed" According To My Gyn
TrillumHunter replied to SaraKat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
She probably watched the Today Show while she was getting dressed this morning. Really, lots of people are seeking more of a diagnosis than IBS for their health issues. In addition to that, the Diabetes Association recommends it as a screen now. -
ARCHIVED Way To Go, Today Show :(
TrillumHunter replied to notme's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is very interesting, but not something to be done without supervision. This patient had controlled amounts introduced and was monitored by endoscopy and blood work--not by her subjective reports. No one should return to gluten without medical supervision as there can be intestinal damage without symptoms. This is what I will be saying in my email... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Immune To Poisin Oak/ivy?
TrillumHunter replied to rdunbar's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There's always something strange, huh? No, I don't get it either. I get in it all the time walking the dog in the woods and such, but I never break out. BUT=== If you ever watch the show Mythbusters, you may have seen a test about poison ivy. They were trying to find the best remedy, but it took them quite a few attempts before they found... -
ARCHIVED Blue Diamond Natural Almond Nut Thins- Gluten Free Or Not?
TrillumHunter replied to BrooklynFamily's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy these by the case. We've never had a problem. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Bisquick (You're Gonna Laugh At This)
TrillumHunter replied to scarlett77's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We made the cheddar garlic biscuits with it on Sunday. They did taste too sweet for me. I put extra garlic in it, but it needed even more for sure. It a problem with gluten-free flours--they are so bland. I think manufacturers try to fix that by sugar or salt. -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Response When People Say.....
TrillumHunter replied to sahm-i-am's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
"I know, right?" I'm in the camp that did think it was something far worse for a long time. I'm also one that didn't heal right up, but has damage that requires continued infusions/shots. I still think it could be worse--a lot worse. It can get easier and the people on this board are an enormous help and support! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A "burning" Sensation In Their Upper Stomach Area?
TrillumHunter replied to willabec's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
He really couldn't think of ANYTHING that causes left lower quadrant pain?! Um, how about diverticulitis? That's a pretty common disorder that causes left lower quad pain. Have you been scoped? -
ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
TrillumHunter replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Does she do this at every meal? I have a friend with OCD and that is the kind of stuff she would do before therapy. I have a daughter this age as well, so I can identify with a lot of what you are saying. I have to remind her often that she is, in fact, NOT a grown-up yet and therefore doesn't get an equal say in things. Your daughter has a lot... -

TrillumHunter replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff

ARCHIVED Faux Mcgriddles
TrillumHunter replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
GOOD FOR YOU! I do this all the time, and it's always a hit. It's a bit more trouble, but it helps the kids to know it is possible to eat like there peers. Although their friends who had the "real" thing usually say mine in better. My son has a friend over and we're having Chick-fil-a. I'll be trying this McGriddle thing myself as I like... -
ARCHIVED Made gluten-free Bisquick Biscuits Last Night
TrillumHunter posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did the drop recipe on the back of the box. It does call for milk, shortening and 3! eggs for two cups of mix. They were light and spongy, but with a crunchy exterior. They do taste like I remember regular Bisquick biscuits tasting, but just a tad sweeter. BUT--it took more than half the box to make 10 very small (by my kids' account) biscuits.... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pasta For Cold Pasta Salads?
TrillumHunter replied to sallyterpsichore's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My friend made her recipe for me with Schar pasta. I couldn't tell the difference. Her recipe is oil and vinegar based, not mayo. -

ARCHIVED Any Gluten-Free Bisquick Mix Sightings?
TrillumHunter replied to MindytheOrganist's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I believe all Publix stores have it now. This is a chain in the southeast. Someone on my local board said they found it at an Alcoa, TN Wal-Mart. It's out there, for sure. -
ARCHIVED What To Do With A Bunch Of Hot Peppers
TrillumHunter replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can dry them. Peppers freeze really well, too. Just rinse them and stick them in a bag and squeeze out the air. Use them like fresh peppers. -
ARCHIVED Biggest Obstacle In Coping With celiac disease
TrillumHunter replied to Mr.GF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's the lack of quick food. If I am running late, I still have to cook. I find my self cooking and eating dinner with my family at a late hour. This is a pretty minor. Far worse for me has been the anemias caused by being undiagnosed for far too long. I hate getting infusions and injections and having regular dates with the phlebotomist. I don... -
I bought something awhile back, and in a cleaning frenzy, I dumped it into a mason jar without labeling it. What was I thinking? I know it must be gelatin or xanthan or guar---something like that. Any idea how to tell what it is? So, so foolish.... It reminds me of the time I did the same thing with salt and wound up mistaking it...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bisquick At Publix
TrillumHunter posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For any of you who would like to try this, I know for sure they have it at this store. I think maybe all Publix stores are carrying it now. Of course, we don't have Publix close to me. If anyone tries it, I'd like to hear your thoughts! -
Chiming in here... That's not normal. You need your prothrombin time checked first off. This determines how long it takes for your blood to clot. If it is abnormal, they'll go on to screen you for various causes, all treatable. Not to scare you, but a minor injury can cause major problems in a free bleeder. Please, tell someone tomorrow. To...
