  1. Does she still have D? If so, keep her very well hydrated. Use whatever clear liquid she wants--popsicles, jello-o, weak tea. Dehydration for a little one can be very serious. When she's over the D you'll need to reestablish her intestinal flora with yougurt. If it's been going on a while she might benefit from the lacto bacillius pearls you can get. ...
  2. Although recently diagnosed I had symptoms all through three pregnancies and nursing times. I nursed 4 1/2 years total. They've all tested negative and are healthy kids in general. Good luck as you start this journey. May you recover quickly and enjoy your little one even more!
  3. I haven't eaten at Toot's since diagnosis and I've only eaten at the one in Murfreesboro. My feeling is that it is more a bar that serves food than the other way around. It is bar food and a bar atmosphere. Now, it may be different in other places as Murfreesboro is a college town. I would say it would be difficult to just walk in and eat. Good grief...
  4. Hi! I recently had my three kids tested so I've been were you are! My middle child is like that and it was hard to keep her from building up anxiety. I have to tell you it went incredibly well. The thing that made the difference is they use a butterfly needle to do the draw. It's a very small gauge needle not like the ones they use on adults. Remember...
  5. That is a tough situation you are facing. How about stocking things that don't need a container? You know, like the noodle and rice packs you only have to add hot water and eat from the container. There are lots of different types of those and I like all I've tried. Praying you won't face that situation this year!
  6. Anyone heard this one? "I'd rather die than not be able to eat bread/pasta/cake!" Umm, okay, if that's what you live for.....
  7. I could tell by the second week. I stopped waking up in pain and feeling overwhelmed by everything. If you will read through the board you will see lots of us have setbacks. A few weeks into it I was feeling so good! Then one night I had a big dish of ice cream and was sick for a week. One thing I learned from this board is go natural and simple for...
  8. Natalie if you can't find it in regular stores see if there is a hispanic store around. We have everywhere now but ten years ago that was the only place I could find it. I hope you all post your experiments with it!
  9. Wow! Thanks! I always have a bag of this to make tortillas. I never thought of pancakes. One thing I do plan to try is wrapping the dough around a hot dog and baking. I'm hoping to turn out a corn dog like product. I wonder where else it would work? I know what I'm having for breakfast!
  10. I think we all have tummy aches and carbs are "bland" food. Think of what they tell you to eat when your tummy aches. Or, any time you have problems going your told to eat MORE fiber aka wheat. OTOH-I think my mother has celiac as well and she has always had an aversion to bread products.
  11. My husband's hot-from-the oven biscuits covered with his sausage gravy. *sigh* Two hot glazed Krispy Kremes ETA: A pitcher of cold draft beer. I know you said "eat" but
  12. I think if you do the biopsy when he is four to so you can prove it to him when he's a teenager you're in for a world of disappointment! I bet you're young enough to remember being a teen. I was shown PHOTOGRAPHIC evidence of things and was still able to argue! I don't think a healthy, strong teen (which he will be if he stays gluten-free) could ever resist...
  13. Sounds like you are going through a rough time! Sad to tell you but you will find some research that links alopecia to celiac disease. Keep reading and pushing for a diagnosis. It took 13 years for me to get the right diagnosis. This is a great site and I highly recommend reading the FAQ as they answer many questions. Also, the "old timers" on this...
  14. Positive is positive! They have to draw a cut off number somewhere and you have reached it. There are researchers that would argue a positive biopsy is unnecessary. I was diagnosed solely on positive blood work about eight weeks ago and I HAVEN'T FELT THIS GOOD IN 13 YEARS!!!! I cannot tell you what an enormous difference this has made in my life. ...
  15. It is hard to understand isn't it? When I was working everyone in the hospital was trained in the basics-airway, breathing, circulation- and knew to recognize when one of those was compromised to get help immediately. How many hospital employees walked passed her bleeding from the mouth on the floor? Where was the triage nurse? So many questions. ...
  16. Sorry, if this is a grown-up person I respectfully disagree. Umm, I think he should go on ahead and grow up. There are times as an adult when you don't get a big party let alone a cake. So, when you offered to host this lovely meal with all his personal favorites did he say, "No, I think I'd rather have a cake from Kroger." I bet that he didn't. If...
  17. I took shots once a week for six weeks. The thing is you can have a normal serum b12 but no reserve. If you stop the b12 (in whatever form) your serum levels drop pretty quickly. To prove this you can stop the b12 for a while and then have a serum test. My understanding is the liver should store a five year reserve in a healthy person. I don't know...
  18. PN was my presenting symptom 13 years ago. It was a searing electrical type pain coupled with weakness. I told the dr it was like I could shoot electricity out of two of my fingers. When they finally checked my b12 six years into it it was superlow. I took shots once a week for awhile to build it up and I take one once a month now. If I am delayed with...
  19. Mariann I can't help but think how less of an issue it would be if they all had it. My biggest fear is that only my daughter will have it. She has said over and over that it would be the worst thing that could ever happen to her. Which I can't understand because I have been sincerely happy to know what is wrong and how to take care of it. I have already...
  20. Congratulations! Enjoy your two week break-I'm sure it's well deserved. Don't worry about telling people. The right time will come! What kind of job?
  21. I was freezing when my serum iron was four. It was that to the core cold that I could only get rid of with a hot, hot bath. Once I got my iron up that went away. I've had my thyroid tested (over and over) and it is fine.
  22. I'm surprised but it went really well. Only one had ever had blood drawn and he was too little to remember it. They are 6, 8 and 10. The youngest has eczema and hypoglycemia. The middle has smelly, bulky poos and a difficult disposition. The oldest has chronic constipation and a defect in his teeth enamel. All three complain of their bones hurting...

Not hereditary? Really? The NIH (one of his peer groups) recommends testing all first degree relatives. I don't know if continuing with him is going to be worth much. He doesn't sound capable of giving you the correct information about your situation. Do you have any confidence that he will be able to accurately interpret your test results? Biopsies...
  24. Hi, Another thing that is nice is grilled chicken breasts frozen. I would hesitate to buy these now as I couldn't be assured of what they were marinated with. But you could do a bunch for them and freeze them. It sure makes an easy meal! You could wrap them individually so she could take out only what was needed. It's a little work but you sound like...
  25. Here's a little tip to get the texture of these types dishes. Before you cut up up the chicken breasts take the back of your knife and chop over the breast. You aren't cutting through it but tenderizing it. Give it a good going over-it should look a little mangled! Then cut it up into small dice.
