  1. Sounds great with one question... I never use instant puddings, I just do homemade. What kinds of instant are gluten-free?
  2. Does he like dipping his food? Some kids seem to really enjoy dipping. Apples & PB, oranges and vanilla yogurt, toast cut into strips w/apple sauce... basically food they can play with and not get into trouble. :-) If you try muffins, there's one variation I've heard of but never tried -- using a multi-color kid's cereal (like fruity peebles) in...
  3. Sorry, I missed that you weren't in the US. Although I saw someone post the other day that Amy's is in London now at Whole Foods. Open Original Shared Link New beau, reacting to everything, I have to ask if your new guy is gluten-free before he kisses you? I wouldn't have believed that it could be that tricky but my hubby proved to me that when he...
  4. I made some really good tasting muffins using Pamela's Pancake & Baking Mix and pureed strawberries (thawed from frozen) for the liquid in the recipe. My Mom loved them and they were bright pinky-red. Reminded me of when I was a kid and my older sis went through her "I only want red food" stage. I want to try making Peach Granola muffins and Cinnamon...
  5. I know some decaf coffee is decafeinated using chemicals, others use a more natural approach. You might be having a reaction to chemicals used to make the coffee decaf. A friend of mine reacts to the less expensive decaf coffee.
  6. Actually, someone posted a YouTube link on this board recently of MM asking for people to contact him with their stories. I don't have time to do a search but I remember seening it a few weeks ago.
  7. I forgot about that -- yes, Whole Foods in our area does accept food stamps. I remember my Mom specifically checking for a young mother in her church. She has a kid that is diagnosed as autistic but a gluten-free/CF diet seems to help.
  8. I have to say the GFP yankee corn muffin mix is good, but it's more expensive since it's a mix.
  9. The best reason, IMO, to seek official tests and diagnosis is that there are so many other problems that present the same symptoms as Celiac and DH can easily be confused with other systemic rashes. A doc spoke to our local group last year on the subject "What took my doctor so long to figure out I had Celiac" and it was amazing how many other things have...
  10. Gluten Free Cornbread Recipes -- the following is a variety of gluten-free cornbread recipes. I've made all of these at various times for different reasons. They are gluten-free but not CF although I usually keep Silk on hand and have substituted it with no problem. I use olive oil or melted Benecol in everything I bake but if you want cornbread to really...
  11. This may be a dumb question but does she have gluten-free playdough? That jumped into my mind when I read the post about gluten sneaking in somewhere.
  12. You grow, girl! :-) That's great news!
  13. maybe this will help... HOMEMADE SUBSTITUTE FOR BAKING POWDER 2 tbsp. cream of tartar 1 tbsp. baking soda 1 tbsp. cornstarch Sift together. Store in airtight container. One teaspoon of this is equal to 1 teaspoon store bought baking powder. Open Original Shared Link
  14. One thing that may be available in your area is a food bank. We have one in our city and it accepts donations of gluten-free food and keeps it separate to provide to Celiacs that need help. You can make cornbread and polenta very cheaply. Let me know if you need me to post a gluten-free recipe for these. Also, a fun thing for kids is to make cornbread...
  15. Hubby and I just tried a new product for the first time -- Dairy-Free Minute Pizza Crust Mix from Fast & Fresh. Open Original Shared Link I bought it from Amazon with my birthday gift certificate. (search Amazon on search string "Dairy-Free Pizza Crust") Like their burger bun, you get 6 little packs that makes one serving of pizza crust each (the...
  16. I had wondered if it was a regional thing. My Mom told me how great the chicken was at Sam's and I picked one up and checked the ingredients -- wheat! She's really bad about shopping without her glasses but she keeps getting zinged by gluten. I keep telling her -- you just gotta read the label, every time. It's a pain but not as much so as not being able...
  17. It's what keeps me on the gluten-freeway. :-)
  18. Definitely check. The roast chicken at the Sam's in my area has wheat in the flavorings. And I've had a problem before with roast chicken at Kroger that should have been gluten-free according to the label but it made me sooo sick. Once you find a reliable source -- treasure it. In my area, Taco Cabana chicken flamente is always safe. Yum!
  19. I think it's simpler than that. The doc sees a pharmaceutical rep every week talking about their miracle drugs. If they also saw a Celiac every week talking about how great they feel since they went gluten-free, they would have a balanced picture. Instead they only talk about the diet with the patient at the first when it is the most difficult and it usually...
  20. Instead of plain tuna, find an deli that carries packages of Hellman's Mayo and packages of pickle relish -- tuna salad on the go. It may not be as good as what you fix at home but it's better than plain tuna night after night. I mentioned the Lundberg Farm's RiceXpress flavors SantFe Grill and Chicken Herb because I have the packages in my pantry....
  21. I do advise having a letter from your doc to put in the suitcase with the food. It helps smooth the way when you are traveling. Homeland Security left me a letter about going through my luggage, in the bag that had cans of TacoBell Fat Free Refried Beans. I suspect the cans looked suspicious in scanning. I went through the Whole Foods section and...
  22. Franceen, you might want to pack along Ener-G granola bars, Jif PB-to-go packs, Nut Thins, and my favorite travel food Tostada shells, salsa and cans of Taco Bell Fat Free refried beans (the cans are gluten-free). Just pitch the leftover beans, the cans are cheap. But it makes a good switch-off. Also, there are some gluten-free noodle bowls that only need...
  23. I thought this was funny because I got a whole spiel from a McDonalds manager about all the training she received to make sure she could accomodate kids with food allergies. That was several years ago but I've always found them accomodating about making sure my food doesn't touch where bread was. I'm bummed because their grilled chicken now contains wheat...
  24. I hope your Kroger's carries it. None of the ones on our side of town do and I pick it up on the other side of town (about an hour away). First time I fixed it surprised me because the frozen bread is the size of a biscuit, maybe 2 inches across. It baked up to the size of a burger bun! I found it in the freezer section that carries frozen Mexican food...
  25. Sorry if this is long, it's not a short answer. One kid that is mentally retarded because his Mom refused to have anything to do with the tests and doctors when she was pregnant and insisted on delivering at home. So when there were complications at birth, there wasn't any medical help at hand and the kid sufferred permanent brain damage. I found out on...
