  1. I don't remember having this pain until after I started the gluten-free diet. My body developed a few new symptoms after I started the diet (after I have a gluten contamination). I now have the pain, spots on my skin, and heart palpitations when I get contaminated.
  2. If you are intolerant to dairy products then you would probably react to them. I get sick when I eat plain lays chips and I believe it is dairy contamination from the lines.
  3. I also have upper abdominal pain when I get glutened. Sometimes it gets so bad that I cannot move and it hurts to breathe. I have to take short quick breaths. Pain killers do not work for my pain either. I think it is definately gluten celiac disease related.
  4. which test did she have?
  5. Eating out should not become a habit, unless the places you are eating at are very safe. Fast food restaurants are not safe, so avoid them if at all possible. When I first started the gluten-free diet I did eat out at fast food restaurants; but, I've realized the risks now and have cut those foods out of my diet. I still eat, however, eat at safe restaurants...
  6. Everyone is different, but I think for most people, it takes a few months. I was 22 when I was diagnosed and I started noticing improvements after 6 months. I finally started feeling somewhat normal after 1 year.
  7. I was potty trained very early (I believe that I was about 18 months). My parents used a cheap doll that could pee and they would set it on the toilet as an example. lol This worked for me! I can still remember my mom teaching me
  8. Most people report here on the board that it takes longer than a few days... more like a few months! I was starting to feel better after about 6 months on the diet and I was starting to feel almost 100% better after about 1 year. If your IGA count was really high, chances are you have celiac. Your symptoms are very celiac-like
  9. I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to you. I would maintain the gluten-free diet 100%...
  10. I've had those and they are so good Too bad that you have to order them, I can get them at the grocery store.
  11. I agree, this board is great I learn a lot of information on this board.
  12. I can usually tell if I've been glutened within a few hours, but sometimes it takes about 12 hours or so. My symptoms are: brain fog fatigue nausea (not always but sometimes) mild-severe upper abdominal pain weight loss diarrhea chicken pox/mosquito like spots on my skin heart palpitations (not always but sometimes) flu-like symptoms gas bloating
  13. I eat Cambell's Chicken and Rice soup and Thai Kitchen's gluten-free soups.
  14. What is the name of the book that you got? I am very interested in this topic.
  15. I get heart palpitations when I am glutened, but that seems to be the only time that I am aware of my heart beating.
  16. I got very sick very quickly and lost about 10 pounds in one week. Sounds like you may have celiac disease. I have had all of those symptoms after eating gluten.
  17. If the wine hasn't bothered you before, then you may have got glutened or you may be reacting to something else, like dairy. I developed a dairy intolerance at about the same time and some of my symptoms are similar to my gluten reaction symptoms. I would double check all the ingredients that you are cooking with, and make sure that you are using separate...
  18. I lost weight before I was diagnosed, so I gained that weight back. I didn't gain any more than that though. The diet was hard at first, but I don't mind it at all now. I can still have all the things I used, I just have to work harder to make them. I also love that this diet forces me to eat healthy.
  19. Jamison vitamins will indicate if they are gluten free right on the label.
  20. I loose about 3-4 pounds when I get glutened and it happens very quickly. I do gain it back though.
  21. A certain kind of genetically modified potato caused intestinal damage in rats. I believe those potatoes are not on the market
  22. For me, the first 4-5 months on the diet were quite rough (similar to how I was before going gluten-free) and then I slowly started having some good days and some bad days. I finally started having mostly good days about 12 months into the diet.
  23. Wow thanks! I love them as well, but since I am now dairy free I can't eat them anymore. Let me know how they turned out
  24. That is very sweet If you are cooking for her, there are a few things that you should know (someone may have mentioned this already). In addition, to making sure the food is gluten-free, make sure that you clean all counters, dishes, silverwear, pots and pans very well. I find crumbs on stuff like that all the time. Also, make sure that you use separate...
  25. I think that there is some good to the diet; however, I don't think that you need to give up rice and potatoes. Basically, the diet says not to eat junk food (eg. sugar) and foods that are hard to digest by humans such as gluten and dairy products. From the reading that I have done, I believe that we were not meant to eat gluten and dairy. The diet does say...
