So Sorry you are having to deal with this problem. I know it is an embrassing problem to discuss with your doctor but have you talked with the doc about it? Some women find it easier to talk to their OB/GYN than their GP. There are physical therapists that specialize in this type of issue and can help resolve this and your doctor can refer you to one. You...

TTg-iga test for a 2 year old
ravenwoodglass replied to 20somethingmama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the board. If the test does come back negative demand the doctor run the full panel. Also the gene testing is not a for sure thing as they usually only test for the 2 most common genes. There are diagnosed celiacs with other celiac associated genes. Do make sure your little one keeps eating gluten and be aware that testing on real young children... -
Difficulties moving fingers when typing
ravenwoodglass replied to EU-Celiac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A neurologist could do an electromylogram to see if nerve pathways are working properly if it is very debilitating. In the test they insert small needles into the muscles and then use low level current to see if the muscles respond. There really isn't a lot they can do though. They would likely refer you to a PT or OT. Your GP can also refer you to a PT...- 11 replies

You need to see a doctor. Yesterday. Contact your local Social Services if you don't have insurance and go to your local hospital's Billing Dept and see if you can get a sliding fee scale based on your income. I was able at one point when uninsured to get any blood work, X-rays and other testing done for just a few dollars. You clearly have much more than...

Coeliac results
ravenwoodglass replied to decclj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With a result that high it means you are Celiac. If your biopsy results should come back negative do the diet strictly anyway. Damage can be patchy and get missed and positive blood work trumps negative biopsy. Hope you are feeling better soon. Do be sure to read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section as that has a lot of good info on what... -
Gluten Challenge
ravenwoodglass replied to floralcup's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you should find the challenge to be too severe contact the Dr as he/she may be able to give you some medication to help you through it. If you call ask to speak to a nurse and don't hesitiate to give the nurse all the nasty details. If symptoms are not too severe Immodium can help with the D and an anti-inflammatory that you tolerate can help with stuff... -
I have wondered the same thing. Something I have noticed with myself and one of my children is that when badly glutened and reacting neurologically is that one eye will appear much smaller because the lid will droop. In my case it is the eye on the opposite side from the brain lesions. I find myself looking at pictures of the perpetrators and see many with...

IMHO it was likely the fish taco. For myself 3 days is the time to a gut reaction even though I get some discomfort in muscles and joints and a day of depression before the severe gut stuff shows up. Have you tried some liquid Pepto Bismal for the stomach pain? It usually gives me some pretty quick relief but don't know if it would help you.

Difficulties moving fingers when typing
ravenwoodglass replied to EU-Celiac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A month and a half is not a very long time when it comes to healing. Issues like you are having with your hand may take some patience. Do supplement with B12, sublingual, at the least. Many benefit from supplementing all the B's. A physical therapist can be helpful if you are able to see one. If you haven't already do read the Newbie 101 thread at the top...- 11 replies

Thanks for posting. I have to wonder how many of those in the study were neuro-presentation celiacs. I wonder because I was on one of those drugs because I was thought to be having some kind of seizures. I eventually had to go off the med because it was impacting my liver function. Turned out the issues were from undiagnosed celiac. My GI symptoms were mild...

It must be so hard on you and your daughter to be struggling with this and not have any answers yet. It sounds like she has ataxia and neuro impact that can be seen with celiac. When this happens UBO's can be found on an MRI. These are similiar to the lesions seen with MS but a spinal tap will not show the debris that is found in MS. Have they done a brain...

That's interesting. I was unable to find any research on this. Do you have a link to this info on the drug? I did find that one of the very many side effects of this drug is a rash or hives. I had pressure urticaria from celiac and had trouble with hives appearing in areas of pressure like you describe in addition to DH but they were seperate from the...

Lower right rib pain
ravenwoodglass replied to Peter D.'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can take some time to heal. That said just because you have celiac doesn't mean you may not have something else going on. How much bleeding are you having? Just a bit on the tissue is nothing to worry about but if you are seeing actual blood and/or mucus that really needs to be addressed by your doctor. What is your diet like? Some of us have other... -
Rash getting worse AFTER going gluten-free
ravenwoodglass replied to CheekyPrincess's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Until I had been gluten free strictly for about 5 years that was the case for me also. The first year I could feel a lesion flaring within an hour of getting CC'd. In my case I did find the longer I was gluten free the later the lesions would show up. It now (15 yrs later) is the last thing after a good glutening and the lesions are now just a minor annoyance... -

You should be fine for the blood work. Eating your daily 'dose' of gluten at night is fine if that makes dealing with your symptoms easier. -
Rash getting worse AFTER going gluten-free
ravenwoodglass replied to CheekyPrincess's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Welcome to the board. DH is no fun as I unfortunately know first hand. You may be getting cross contamination either in your kitchen or in your food. Do read the Newbie 101 thread at the top of the Coping section as it has a lot of info on what we need to keep safe. Unfortuately celiac is more than just the food we eat and we all mess up a few times at first... -
Opinions please
ravenwoodglass replied to Jla83's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes symptoms can get worse over time. They can also change and at times folks can have good days and bad. If you are ever being awakened by cramps and D do let the doctor know this. You do sound like you could be dealing with celiac. Insist your doctor give you a full panel. Don't stop eating gluten until all celiac related testing is finished. You don't... -
Yes. It seems those antibodies can cause inflammation and discomfort just about anywhere. I hope this passes for you soon. If your pain gets worse do head back to the doctor.

Some find it helpful to eat their daily 'dose' in the evening. You don't have to eat a lot. A couple slices of bread worth of gluten is enough. If your symptoms are severe your doctor may be able to give you some medication to help. Immodium can be helpful if you need to leave the house and Pepto Bismal liquid can help if you get stomach pain. If you have...

It is possible that the med you were given wasn't gluten free but I think it more likely you were cross contaminated from the food. If the lesions were in an area that was swabbed with iodine it may have been that but if that was the case I think you also would have seen an outbreak in the surgical area. Good to hear that the rash has resolved and hope you...

that is still 3x the normal range. Not much doubt about your being celiac. We have many members from other countries including the UK. All are welcome. If needed you can ask about UK specific brands etc in the products section and folks from your country may be able to help. Welcome to the club you never wanted to join. We are here to help in any ways...

Yes that is high. If it was say 20 or so I would ask what the normal ranges were but 155 is far above any normal ranges I have ever seen. Do make sure you keep eating gluten until your endo is done. After the endo you can go gluten free and should no matter what the endo results. Damage can be patchy and get missed so positive blood test trumps negative biopsy...

I would consider 3x and 4 x high and the DGP is quite specific to celiac. Do stick with the tooth brushing as that will remove any gluteny residue in his mouth. Swishing some water and spitting it out after brushing would be a good idea. Just drinking water wouldn't cut it. Do be sure to do the tooth brushing if he drinks any gluten beverages like beer...
