ARCHIVED Something Must Be Really Wrong With Me.
ravenwoodglass replied to RachelisFacebook's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry you are feeling so badly. You mention you were out with your new boyfriend and it must be hard to be with someone new and not be able to go to the places they want to go. Have you told him about the celiac yet? If you haven't it is time to tell him about your dietary restrictions and give some input into where you want to go when you go out to eat... -
ARCHIVED Would You Go Back To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to reenag's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your GI doctor was right that since you have been gluten free or gluten light the tests for celiac at that point would be useless. Even on a full gluten diet there is a 20 to 30 percent chance of a false negative. The choice on whether you want to go back on gluten for 2 to 3 months for testing is totally up to you. Your body seems to be clearly telling you... -
ARCHIVED Hey, I've Just Had My One-Year Anniversary Here!

Congrats on the Anniversary. I hope your feeling a lot better by now. -
ARCHIVED Completely Confused About Diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to RacheyK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is a company called Enterolab here in the US that can do stool testing. They don't diagnose celiac but can tell you if your body is producing antibodies to gluten. You could contact them via their website to get more info. They can test after someone has been gluten-free up to a year so it is something you could think about doing if you don't want to... -
ARCHIVED Gas/bloating Till I Can't Breath
ravenwoodglass replied to Sammyj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It does sound like a gluten reaction. You have a wise doctor who know that rather large numbers of us show false negative on testing. Your body is telling you that being gluten free is the way it wants to be. -
ARCHIVED Completely Confused About Diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to RacheyK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your not really back to square one. You eliminated gluten and felt better and you had a reoccurance of problems when you went back on it. Your body is trying to give you the answer. If you have been gluten free you need to go back on gluten for about 2 to 3 months for any chance of accurate testing. If you just can't do it for that long, realizing that you... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Else Suffered From Bi-Lateral Pleural Effusions?
ravenwoodglass replied to Massachusettschick's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the board. I don't know if those problems could be related. If this sort of thing happens because of inflammation (I don't know if it does) then it is possible that the inflammation that usually comes with a glutening might have contributed to the issue. I really don't know and perhaps someone with more knowledge can be more helpful You really... -
ARCHIVED Cancer, Chemo, Gluten Ughhh
ravenwoodglass replied to fran641's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Fran, I am sorry sorry that you are having to go through this. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers daily. -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Cottage Cheese? Anxiety, Suicidal Thoughts, Racing Heart, Extreme Fatigue
ravenwoodglass replied to ericsnow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It might be a reaction to casien. Unless you consumed something that was a gluten risk in the less couple of days as some will have that sort of a reaction to gluten. What you may want to do is drop all dairy again and then in another month or so you could try dairy again with a different dairy item and see if the same thing happens again. If you do discover... -
ARCHIVED My Blood Tests And What To Do Next
ravenwoodglass replied to RL2011's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You will get used to gluten free lifestyle. It does seem challenging at first but it is quite doable. As to finding a gluten free gal who would like doing what you do, well we are out there. We don't unfortuately have gluten free tattooed on our foreheads but single gluten free gals do exist and many of us wish we could find a good gluten free guy. One thing... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Done Major Home Renovations Post gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Removing wallpaper is a tough job and can be very frustrating. If you can't paint over it, I have done that at times, have a pro come in and do it. They have heavy duty steamers and can do the job much quicker so they would be well worth the expense. I lived once in a house that was a converted 1850's barn. The beams in the house were like iron, you couldn... -
ARCHIVED If You Could Travel Anywhere In The World, Where Would It Be?
ravenwoodglass replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
New Zealand, Galapagos Islands, Australia, Ireland and Hawaii. In that order. Although from pictures I have seen of NZ once I got there I might never come back. -
ARCHIVED Is Pramipexole gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Coolclimates's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could try getting the name of the maker and call them yourself. The place that I get scripts from puts the maker's name in small letters on the bottle. Usually if you do a search with the company name and the words contact info you will find the info pretty quickly. -
ARCHIVED Dealing With My Son Working In A Restaurant
ravenwoodglass replied to Loey's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Drycleaning isn't going to get restaurant dirty clothes clean let alone get any gluten off them and the home 'drycleaning' methods are just going to spread flour reside all over the inside of your dryer. Either have him wash those himself, or at least get him to put them in the washer, and once they have gone through the washer they should be fine. You... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Done Major Home Renovations Post gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your biggest dangers are the wallpaper paste and the drywall and compound. If you can stay elsewhere while the drywall is hung and finished and have someone else remove wallpaper or put it up that would be best. Most paints and caulks I use are latex or acrylic based and those are not as much of a problem. We tore off a storage room and turned it into a... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to shadowicewolf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes IMHO it would. Also since you had a positive blood test your GP may 'officially diagnose' you after you have had some time strict on the diet and have recovered from your issues. More doctors are becoming aware of false negatives on biopsy and will diagnose based on positive blood work, recovery on the diet and negative blood work after a time gluten... -
ARCHIVED Day 5 And Miserable
ravenwoodglass replied to tammykinz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This persons experience was my experience also. For me it was the withdrawl and then just all of a sudden it lifted and for the first time in years I felt calmer and became a much easier person to live with. It can be hard to be in a mixed household but it can be done. One thing you do need to do though is to get your children tested and also suggest testing... -
ARCHIVED Thinking Ahead To Healing, Please Can You Advise
ravenwoodglass replied to Meg123's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
An A1C is a test that shows an average of your blood sugar levels over a three month period. They want that number to be under 6. Did the doctor give you a script for a meter and testing strips? I found one very helpful. I tested when I awoke, right before I ate and 1, 2, and 3 hours after eating. It was very helpful in showing me what foods raised my BS... -
ARCHIVED My Blood Tests And What To Do Next
ravenwoodglass replied to RL2011's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. I agree with the other posters. The choice to do the biopsy is up to you. No matter what the biopsy states you do need the diet. There can be false negatives on the biopsy. One of the reasons is that damage can be patchy and with 22 ft of small intestine a damaged spot can be missed. One other option is getting the rash checked to see... -
ARCHIVED Worried About Over The Top Blood Test Numbers
ravenwoodglass replied to chisket's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. With numbers like that she is most certainly in need of the diet. Some doctors would diagnose based on that but many do still want to do a scope. Do not take her gluten free until after the biopsy is done. As was said she can go gluten free as soon as that testing is done you don't need to wait on the results. Keep her on the diet even... -
ARCHIVED Thinking Ahead To Healing, Please Can You Advise
ravenwoodglass replied to Meg123's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you been doing a gluten challenge? If so and your bloodwork that told you that your were insulin resistant was taken during the challenge that may have been because of the challenge. Being sick can raise the blood sugar. It may normalize again after you have been gluten free for a while. Do go light on the gluten free goodies for a bit though just in... -
ARCHIVED Would You Request Testing If You Were Me?
ravenwoodglass replied to Tina76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well IMHO if you are going 10X a day you have D it just isn't watery. Some celiacs alternate between having C and then D. A lot of your other symptoms also suggest celiac or gluten intolerance and the fact that this started after having a baby is significant because for women it is not uncommon for childbirth to be a trigger. I also had allergy testing and... -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to shadowicewolf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I does seem obvious doesn't it and there are some that do diagnose based on the combo of positive blood and recovery on the diet. Hopefully more will start. I show negative on blood tests and was too sick from the second challenge to go to the biopsy. I was diagnosed based on my 'miraculous' recovery off gluten and my extemely bad reaction to the challenges... -
ARCHIVED Should I Even Be Here?
ravenwoodglass replied to raesue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This was me also and I had suffered daily and nightly D with a lot of other problems for over 15 years. If you are going to go with Quaker products for rice cakes go with the large ones. On their website they make no mention of the small ones being safe but I did find this: Open Original Shared Link "Quaker cares about the health and safety of its...
