ARCHIVED Cosmetics?
ravenwoodglass replied to Twister2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes the lipstick would be a problem. Other makeup could be an issue, does he kiss your cheek? If he does your makeup is getting on his lips. Sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry. -
ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to shawnandjessm's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I really have to disagree with your doctor. Being a little bit in the positive range is like being a little in the positive range in a pregnacy test. -
ARCHIVED Now Here's Some Custome Service! (Pf Changs)
ravenwoodglass replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Another thing to add to that order. Now I'm craving that spicy chicken and chocolate! Have to drive for an appoinment that's half way there this week....maybe I'll chance the traffic. I find it makes at least two meals also, even when my son and I just split an order there is still some left over. -
ARCHIVED How Many Of You Have Celiac And Kids Have It Too
ravenwoodglass replied to Marie1976's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It took many painfilled years for me to be diagnosed because I show a false negative in blood tests they did. 6 months after I was finally diagnosed had both of my teens tested. Both were positive with blood tests and one had the biopsy which was also positive. Their postive blood work convinced my ex husband to be tested and he was positive also. It is very... -
ARCHIVED Would Like Second Opinion On Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please keep in mind that there can be false negatives with celiac testing even if we are still eating gluten. Do give the diet a good strict try for a couple of months after you are done with testing. -
ARCHIVED Now Here's Some Custome Service! (Pf Changs)
ravenwoodglass replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've never had a problem with them either. I just wish they had one closer and weren't located at a huge mall that I hate the driving hassle with. My DS when he is in town will take the half hour drive (one way) to get me the spicy chicken and snow peas and garlic that is my favorite. He will be coming home for a visit soon and I can't wait to see him and... -
ARCHIVED Celiact Vitamins!
ravenwoodglass replied to chili's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will take a look at them but unless they are very reasonably priced including shipping I will likely pass. I can find the specific vitamins I need at my local grocery or health food store so if they show up there I might try them if they supplement at the levels I use for the ones I buy already. edit Just took a look at the website and I will stick... -
ARCHIVED Should My Family Get Tested?
ravenwoodglass replied to chili's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your doctor is flat out wrong. All first degree members need to be tested. Celiac is not just a gut disease although some doctors falsely think so. And your grandmother is far from asymptomatic. -
ARCHIVED So How Does This Work?
ravenwoodglass replied to samiam2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The science is the antibodies not the gut damage. Some celiacs have no gut damage at all, the skin form of the disease DH is an example of that. The antibodies can also attack the brain causeing mood issues like depression and anxiety. The stomach issues are only one of the issues involved in celiac disease the main issue is the antibody reaction. And once... -
ARCHIVED Dna Test Negative
ravenwoodglass replied to annegirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am a firmly diagnosed celiac who doesn't have either of those 2 genes. I am a double DQ9, while those genes are considered RA related here they are recognized as celiac associated in the Middle and Far East. My DD had both positive blood and biopsy but after healing for a few years got retested and they did her gene panels. Because she was not DQ2 or DQ... -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to momhmmx2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have children it will be easier to get them tested if you have a firm diagnosis. All first degree relatives should be tested when one is diagnosed as it is strongly genetic and it can be easier to get Mom and Dad and brothers and sisters to test if we have a firm diagnosis. We also should be screened for osteoporosis and should have full vitamin and... -
ARCHIVED Question About Gastritis
ravenwoodglass replied to Smarts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You mention you have been gluten free for 9 months, if I read that right, please be aware that you would need to do a gluten challenge for 2 to 3 months to redamage yourself before testing can have any chance of being accurate. -
ARCHIVED Epstein Barr, Hair Loss, Fatigue
ravenwoodglass replied to mommyoftwinks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. Some of us have celiac triggered by an illness and hair loss and fatigue are a couple of symptoms that quite a few of us have had. -
What Does Everyone Eat For Breakfast?
ravenwoodglass replied to plumbago's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use Pocono. It is grown in dedicated fields, harvested with dedicated equipment and processed in a plant that only processes buckwheat. No chance of CC at all with them. A bonus for me is that it is grown and processed not far from where I live so I go and buy huge bags of the hulls every spring for buckwheat pillows and mulch. -
ARCHIVED Neurological Symptoms From Intolerances
ravenwoodglass replied to superfob's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is how they test for celiac in some countries. Gluten rectal suppositories are also used. After a short time they then biopsy the area and look for the antibodies. Gluten can pass through the mucous membranes and the reaction starts as soon as gluten contacts them whether someone has neuro symptoms or the more typically thought of gut effects. A much... -
ARCHIVED Sriracha (rooster Sauce)
ravenwoodglass replied to MaryJones2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Although chances are the product is still safe do be aware that the original post was almost 2 years old. To be on the safe side double check as companies can change ingredients and suppliers. -
ARCHIVED TIAs/Neurological Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to Mothering3's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hopefully a good neurologist will be able to get to the bottom of what is going on. It must have been a very scarey experience and I hope it doesn't happen to you again. I agree with the other poster that you shouldn't stop the asprin until you have gotten an ok from a good neuro. -
What Does Everyone Eat For Breakfast?
ravenwoodglass replied to plumbago's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cream of buckwheat cereal with a generous amount of cinnamon is one of my favorites. A single serving is even often too much but my little dog will scarf up whatever is left over. Scrambled eggs, a couple slices of toast and some fruit or if I am in a hurry peanut butter toast are my among staples. If I have left over pizza from the night before that is for... -
ARCHIVED Celiac ?
ravenwoodglass replied to sminty's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry you guys are having such a rough time. Yes it is quite possible you are both having issues with gluten. Do get full celiac panels run and if you are going to have the endoscopy stay on gluten until that is done. After all celiac related testing is finished then you both should do a trial of the gluten free diet no matter what the test results are. False... -
It might be a good idea to see your regular GP for a follow up on the liver issue and ask them if a referral is needed. Are you jaundiced in addition to the dark urine? Has your regular doctor ruled out hepatitis? You have only been gluten free for a bit over a week so it isn't surprising that your liver function tests have not improved. It takes a while...

ARCHIVED Erewhon Brown Rice Gluten-Free Cereal
ravenwoodglass replied to IrishHeart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you like hot cereals? If you do you could try Pocono brand Buckwheat cereal. It is grown in dedicated fields, harvested with dedicated equipment and processed in a plant that only processes buckwheat. It might be a safe option for you. -
ARCHIVED So How Does This Work?
ravenwoodglass replied to samiam2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No having gluten once a week is not okay. You are having an antibody reaction and doing this will keep the antibodies active and you risk having them attack other organs like your liver, brain, gallbladder, etc and will contribute to inflammation that can do a lot of damage. In addition you may find that once you have been gluten free for a bit the reactions... -
ARCHIVED TIAs/Neurological Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to Mothering3's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do you have balance issues? If you do mention them to the neurologist if you do see one. Have the TIA results sent to him or her also. They can do an MRI that looks for brain lesions, UBOs, that are found with celiac that has attacked the brain. There are tests they can do to see if you have had a TIA including a CT scan of the brain. There is also the possibility... -
ARCHIVED Severe Depression/ Thyroid Issues Linked To Celiac Disease?
ravenwoodglass replied to keithceliac2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It isn't over-diagnosed it is just that it is finally being realized how common it is and how much it impacts not just the gut. Recent studies are even showing that folks on psychotropic drugs who don't get relief from them should be tested for celiac as it can have serious brain impact even if gut symptoms are not present. -
ARCHIVED Stiff Back
ravenwoodglass replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yea soy is not my freind either it aggravates my arthritis as well as giving me stomach pain and 3 days of nasty C. I use either Wegmans Rice Milk, Rice Dream is NOT safe for us, or Pacific brand milks. If I am craving chocolate I get chocolate hemp milk. It's high in protein and nice and thick. Because it is so thick I sometimes cut it with rice milk.
