ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Brands
ravenwoodglass replied to K8Hanna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hijacks happen and we usually are forgiven for it. Those are my two favorite kitties, don't tell the other one. The tortie is a foundling that I adopted out of a snowbank after a storm. At that point she was still in the 'kissing up' stage with the other two kitties and never would have gotten away with licking the Ricki's foot if he had been awake... -
Keep safe, gluten free 'treats' on hand at all times for when you are tempted. That may help a bit. You could try a gluten-free trail mix sort of thing with safe nuts, dark chocolate, a few pretzels etc that you can carry with you. Make some gluten free brownies, Betty Crocker has a mix, and portion them into a size that would be allowed for your BS issues...

ARCHIVED Biopsy Results In
ravenwoodglass replied to HollyG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doing the right thing by giving the diet a good strict try. Chances are if gluten is an issue for you both the iron levels and the liver enzymes will normalize after a bit. I hope your feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED What To Do Now That I'm Pregnant
ravenwoodglass replied to parrfunkel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree strongly with Tiffany. Wishing you the best. -
3 days is the exact amount of time it takes for my body to have D after being glutened. I do have some symptoms show up the next day, like depression and exhaustion with some stomach growls but the D hits 3 days later. My doctor said it can take up to a week for some folks. So yes I do think your D 3 days later was likely a gluten reaction.

ARCHIVED Could These Problems Be Related To Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to mommysboys2's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
One of the most important things you need to know is that if you are going to get any testing done for celiac you should get back on gluten until that testing is done. While it can take a long time for relief from symptoms some of us do have quick resolution of our issues. It is possible that you are someone who would get quick relief. After you have... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Tomorrow
ravenwoodglass replied to mary77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It can make you sick 'all of a sudden' because celiac usually needs a trigger like a severe illness, injury or stress. Childbirth is a common trigger for women, for example. Sometimes it takes our recovery to make a 'believer' out of our families and when they see a reaction after we have healed and accidentally get glutened that can help also. Do try the... -
ARCHIVED What's The Difference Between Gluten Intolerance And Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to ladymiss's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yea I agree with this. Both are autoimmune just with celiac the antibodies cause an autoimmune attack in the gut that doctors can find when it gets far enough along, sometimes, (although we do have to keep in mind that high rate of false negatives). Whereas 'gluten intolerance' can cause autoimmune impact in other organs instead of or before it attacks the... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Brands
ravenwoodglass replied to K8Hanna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not everyone with celiac has digestive issues. I had DH since childhood but didn't have noticable GI symptoms till after I had my children in my early thirties. By the way your avatar is great and yea we do seem to have a lot of cat people. There are some cute stories along with a couple videos posted in the 'Anything but Celiac' section. I loved the video... -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzyme Supplement - Stomach Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to Craig E's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And we have to keep in mind that the labeling laws only apply to food not to supplements or either OTC or script drugs. For those the allergens do not have to be listed. -
ARCHIVED Digest Gold? Maltase From What Source?
ravenwoodglass replied to IrishHeart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It would have been very hard for me not to slap that doctor. Seriously. Especially the crack about the hair loss. What a jerk!!!!! -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Tomorrow
ravenwoodglass replied to mary77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could have a false negative on testing so do keep that in mind. When you're done with testing go on the diet for a good strict trial. Sometimes the body can tell us what the tests cannot. -
ARCHIVED Question About Three Month Gluten Challenge
ravenwoodglass replied to Cara in Boston's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hopefully things will level off if you are determined to continue the challenge. It does seem pretty clear though with a previous positive blood test and your reaction to the challenge that you will need the diet no matter what the testing says after another 2 and a half months. -
ARCHIVED Interpeting Bloodwork Results
ravenwoodglass replied to kecmommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are done with testing give a good strict try on the diet. If I am not mistaken he has one of the same genes I do. Doctors told my DD that her blood and biopsy diagnosis was an error because she carrys that same gene not one of the 2 most often associated. By the way my blood tests consistantly came back negative also but I have now been firmly diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Brands
ravenwoodglass replied to K8Hanna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will also react to airborne wheat, like if someone is baking with flour and I am in the room. For me it causes the same symptoms ingesting does, migraine followed by stomach pain, joint and muscle pain and D 2 to 3 days later. Not only does gluten get absorbed by mucous membranes when you breathe it in it travels through the nose, down the throat and into... -
Glad the rash is improving. You might want to go with gluten free toiletries for a bit just to be on the safe side. Some don't need them but lots of us do. I don't know if this is DH that you are experiencing but since you are also experiencing GI issues it may be that you have gotten glutened. Some find Pepto Bismal liquid to be helpful for that stomach...

You need to get strict with that gluten free diet. You have to your life depends on it. One reason why you are constantly hungrey is your body is being prevented from absorbing nutrients from your food because of the gluten damage. Some of us do gain weight as the disease progresses so that may be why you are not losing weight. You also need to keep your...

ARCHIVED Kraft Miracle Whip
ravenwoodglass replied to thack's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am very sensitive and use Kraft Miracle Whip all the time, however I do not use the light version. Have you tried regular Miracle Whip to see if the same thing happens? I do think you are reacting to something else in it other than gluten. Sometimes we do have other intolerances that can mimic a gluten reaction. I thought I was being CC'd for years until... -
ARCHIVED So Far, Soy...bad :(
ravenwoodglass replied to healinginprogress's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I missed that you had only been gluten-free for that short a time. I agree with this. Give yourself a bit more time to heal. My allergist wanted me symptom free, at least as far as the D goes, for at least 2 to 3 weeks before I started adding stuff back in. -
ARCHIVED Digest Gold? Maltase From What Source?
ravenwoodglass replied to IrishHeart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here is a link to food sources that contain digestive enzymes naturally. IMHO much better than a pill. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzyme Supplement - Stomach Pain
ravenwoodglass replied to Craig E's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If pineapple is something that she likes that has a natural digestive enzyme in it. Perhaps a few pieces with each meal might help. Pepto Bismal liquid, name brand might help with the stomach pain if it is still present. -
Well I finally got notice that I was accepted for a civil service exam that I will take next Weds. Keep those fingers crossed, say a prayer or two and send positive vibes that first it won't snow that day, at least not too much and second that I can keep myself from backspacing automatically on the typing part of the test. I know I'll do fine on...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Brands
ravenwoodglass replied to K8Hanna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yea I only tried those once. Some are able to tolerate small amounts of gluten that may be present from shared lines and facilities but I am not one of them. -
ARCHIVED Nephrotic Syndrome
ravenwoodglass replied to ValeriaZ's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I hope things improve. I was never formally diagnosed with kidney issues but I no longer throw protein and blood into my urine and my edema resolved, unless I get glutened. -
ARCHIVED Negative Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to LolaK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So glad to hear that you had a good appointment with the doctor. Hopefully the doctors words and your son's horrible reaction to going off the diet will be enough reinforcement for him to get back on the diet and stay on it.
