ARCHIVED Help! Symptoms Not Disappearing!
ravenwoodglass replied to michayla's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You want to quit the oats because not all celiacs tolerate them and you may be one of the many that don't. I wouldn't touch Quaker rice cakes with someone else's hand. IMHO the chance of CC with those is great. I know it seems hard to eat whole foods but once you get used to it and the cooking yourself it can be a great deal cheaper than buying prepared... -

Drop the gluten free oatmeal. That should IMHO only be consumed by those who are well healed. Many of us do react to oatmeal. You are also consuming quite a bit of processed foods it is better to go with whole naturally gluten free food for a while. Also some rice cakes are not gluten free what brand are you using? It is also advised to limit the amount of... -
Your doctor may not diagnose based on dietary exclusion, resolution of symptoms and then symptom reoccurance when gluten is added back in but your body will. While having a doctor derived diagnosis can be valuable with the high rate of false negatives in testing in the end it's your bodies response that counts for the most.

What are you eating? You should be going with whole unprocessed foods while you are healing. Also some companies will have labels that have ingredients that are gluten free but not disclose CC issues in the plant or on the lines. You may have gotten CC'd somewhere, do you have your own new dedicated toaster? Are you cooking with flour for others? Are you... -
ARCHIVED Why Does This Happen?
ravenwoodglass replied to waterlily-'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For many of us symptoms can come and go at first. In addition some have delayed reactions from gluten so we may not react to something we ate for a day or two. -

Lower the dose of the bentyl. Ask you doctor for either a lower dose pill or if it's okay, if it is a tablet to cut it in half. Also if you were taking it for D and you are on the diet you maybe healing and now be medicating something you no longer have. That would constipate you. -

How often are you at the stable? Do you do the horses feeding and grooming? When and if you do are you wearing a mask and gloves in the stable? Please be careful around the barn, usually they are full of gluten from feed and bedding. Inhaling the dust may cause you to react. Since reactions can be delayed you might attribute a reaction to a food when in reality... -
Also, to be on the safe side, ask if it is derived from wheat. Some stuff is considered so processed that it is gluten free and there are no labeling laws in regards to gluten in meds. Although the gluten free should mean no wheat, including in the starch, you don't know for sure without calling. For example many things like wheat and barley grass are considered...

If you have doubts about any med call the company and ask what _________ is derived from. Pregelatinized starch could be many starches but the gluten free on the label should mean it's not from wheat.

I also think he got the DQ2 from Dad and yes he should be tested. As should, if you are diagnosed, your brothers and sisters and Mom and Dad. If you have any other children they should be tested also. There is a lot of really tasty gluten free food out there. Have him try some Snyder's pretzels, Pamelas Double chocolate chunk cookies, A pizza made with Gluten... -

Glad your feeling better. Once your body starts absorbing things properly it is not unusual to have to adjust doses of your meds. I'm sorry about the divorce issue. I just went through that myself. I did find once all was said and done and the final papers were in my hands that it was like a huge rock had been lifted off me. You'll get through it. -
I think it quite likely especially since the rash has gotten worse when you added gluten back in.

ARCHIVED Freaked About Neural Stuff...
ravenwoodglass replied to twinkle-toez's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For years a lot of my neuro issues would get worse then get better then get worse. I can only speak for myself but this went on for literally years and years before the issues came to stay and progress downward from there. I think that contributed to them thinking it was MS as MS can resolve then change presentation also. With the roommate issue, can you... -
ARCHIVED Medical Marijuana For Symptom Control
ravenwoodglass replied to raisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your playing with fire with this little 'experiment'. Even if you don't feel symptoms if you are celiac you are doing damage. While celiac is one of the things that medical MJ is prescribed for, in some states, and it can be very useful when glutened using it and thinking you are safe eating wheat is not a safe thing to do. As far as I know MJ does not stop... -
ARCHIVED My 11 Year Old Was Glutened For The First Time
ravenwoodglass replied to sahm-i-am's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
No gluten will not cause a reaction in those who are not intolerant of it. If people reacted to food just because they hadn't eaten it in a while we would react to a lot of stuff we only have on holidays or seasonally. People who are not intolerant to gluten can add it in and out all they want with no reaction. That is the reason why eliminating gluten and... -
It's better to avoid what is giving you D in the first place. I don't like to take it when I am glutened unless I absolutely have to. The reason is because I want the offending substance out of my body as quickly as it will get out of there. Are you having trouble with the diet? How long have you been gluten free? Are you avoiding dairy, we usually need...

ARCHIVED How Can We Have A Life?
ravenwoodglass replied to lucia's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Keep in mind that gluten can have some nasty effects on our mood. I get frankly suicidal for a couple of days when I get glutened and it takes a while to get back to myself moodwise. You may be the same and for me it helps if I just tell myself it is the gluten making me feel this way, then I hide for a couple of days and try to treat myself to anything that... -

ARCHIVED Gene Test
ravenwoodglass replied to lmg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think your doctor ripped you off. There is a lot not yet understood about genetics and especially about celiac and the genes. One gene can be associated with more than one disorder also. Also if you are anemic I think it is unlikely that you have Haemochromatosis as that causes an excess of iron not a deficit. You may want to talk to your doctor... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Free Products Like Shampoo, Makeup
ravenwoodglass replied to willabec's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As to the Instyler, I didn't like it either and sent it back also. DH is an antibody reaction and people that have DH will get blisters from ingesting gluten. Not everyone who has DH will have gut symptoms, some do some don't and some will go on to develop them in time. It is quite possible to have an allergy to gluten as well as celiac or gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Results Of My Test

I think your wise to stay on the diet. I don't think low vit D can cause diarrhea so I think it is your diet change that is relieving that. Your A1c may also normalize after you have been on the diet for a bit. Being sick can raise the blood sugar levels but do keep an eye on it. -
ARCHIVED Having Second Thoughts.... And I Cheated Today....
ravenwoodglass replied to crampy girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some folks have delayed reactions to gluten. If you are going to do a gluten challenge then eat gluten at least 3 times a day for a week before you decide to go off the diet. If your intolerant to gluten you should react by the end of the week. -
That may not be the case if your taking the semester off for health reasons. Go to the disability office and talk to them and also give your health insurance company a call. You should immediately drop dairy, even if you have not had positive lactose tests you may have casien intolerance and dropping dairy is not going to hurt. What are you eating? To heal...
