  1. I think that is a great idea. You've gotten some good suggestions but one thing you really should do before going any farther is to contact your local Health Dept and your cities Code Enforcement office. Cooking and baking out of your home usually has a lot of regs that need to be followed. Best to check things out before you start rather than getting an...
  2. Those biopsy finding combined with a postive blood test mean you are likely celiac. Have you started the diet yet? Since you are done with blood work and biopsy a dietary trial is your next step and should take care of the issues you are having. You don't need to wait for the doctors appointment to get started.
  3. "I cut out gluten for the last week or so and definitely feel so much better! My poo has become brown again (albeit still floating and poorly formed) and I have more energy. But now I've been told my blood work is negative for celiacs or malabsorption, I feel like a fraud doing it, cutting gluten out I mean, as there is no rhyme or reason why I should. I...
  4. Before you go on the vacation find out what restaurants there are close by then call and see if they have gluten free menus. Many places do now. Do the same for the ice cream shops. If you can't check before you go then maybe on the first afternoon there you could take a side trip into town and scope out what is available.
  5. Can you try to look back to see what may have changed right before you started feeling ill again? Some of us do become much more sensitive so do double check all toiletries, meds, supplements etc as well as looking at any processed or restaurant food you may have eaten. I hope your feeling better soon.
  6. You may know it as Applejack or Hard Cider. It is apple cider that has been fermented to make it alcoholic.
  7. I second this reply. As she said you can start the diet the day the biopsy is done. Your body may give you the answer before the results are back.
  8. Greens ( from Costco in the rectangular tub ) Sweet Peppers ( again from costco ) Tomatoes Chicken ( gluten free rotisserie from costco) Garlic Powder, Chopped onion, Black Pepper ( all are Kirkland dried spices ) Kirkland Olive oil Trader Joe's Balsamic Vinegar Canned Sardines ( from Trader Joe's ) I would drop one thing at a time from the salad...
  9. How have you been feeling since you went gluten free? Have you seen resolution of any of your issues? If the diet is helping you don't need your doctors permission to continue on it.
  10. What you do now is get on the gluten free diet and heal. You are correct that the villious blunting is likely from celiac. Your doctor decided it wasn't because of your genetic results. Gene testing is not the absolute that some doctors think it is. For one thing it is a relatively new science and not all is known about how many genes are actually associated...
  11. Glad to hear that your feeling better. When you are ready to start adding things back in be sure to add an item in for a full week, in it's pure form, before you decide that you can tolerate it. It can take up to a week for a reaction to occur with intolerances. I hope your progress continues well.
  12. Welcome. I hope you heal quickly. Ask any question you need to and read as much as you can. We sometimes have some ups and downs at first, hang in there if you do.
  13. She can still have the 'joy' of fresh baked bread and pizza doughs along with pasta and cake and cookies, etc. etc. if she has to be gluten free. There are some really good gluten free mixes and ready made stuff available now. I was diagnosed 8 years ago and to say the stuff I could find was nasty was an understatement. But now with companies like the Grainless...
  14. Everyone has regrets. It doesn't do any good to dwell on things you can't change all it will do is make you depressed and make others not want to be around you. You can't change the past but you can mold the future. Concentrate on what is ahead of you not behind. When we walk looking backwards we just keep tripping over every little rock.
  15. I would ask the doctor to do an endo now not later. If you have tried eliminating gluten and your symptoms were relieved that is a real strong indication that you need to eliminate gluten. Do be aware that if you are not eating gluten when you are tested by blood or endo that it will likely cause a false negative and even on a full gluten diet false negatives...
  16. Gum issues can be due to inflammation so it is not surprising that your issues there have improved. They have for me also. I did 'interviews' when I was looking for a dentist I simply went in to talk to them before I made an appointment. If they were clueless I simply moved on. I have had a couple that were knowledgeable about celiac, one was so paranoid...
  17. Removing gluten from your diet for an extended period and then adding it back in and watching for a reaction is a gluten challenge. Not everyone who needs to avoid gluten has a gut reaction and for some the gut reaction can take a day or two of gluten consumption to show up. Those who eat largely gluten free for a family member who is celiac need to keep...
  18. I think your doctor is giving you good advice about keeping her on gluten and then testing. I also think it would be a good idea for you to get tested at the same time. Kids do not outgrow celiac but it can take a long time for the symptoms to reappear. Do keep in mind that there are pretty high rates of false negatives for both blood and biopsy so a gluten...
  19. No they wouldn't react.
  20. If you do a search using the words neurological and celiac a lot will come up.
  21. You may be going through withdrawl. Many of us do. It is also a big change and not unusual to go through a mourning process. The celiac lifestyle is a big chance and involves so much. You do have celiac no matter what the blood tests results are and it is not unusual for folks with DH to have negative blood tests so don't let your doctor talk you out of the...
  22. the protein in oatmeal is similiar to the protein in the gluten grains. There are quite a few of us who do react to all oats, even the certified gluten free ones. If you are one of them it could make things confusing. If you avoid them for now you can add them back in after you have healed to see if you are someone who tolerates them.
  23. If I was going to do a genetic test I would pick Enterolab over most of the ones the doctors order. Typically doctors only test for the 2 most common celiac associated genes. The results in my family of having the test for just those 2 genes was disastorous and resulted in one of my children going back on gluten and blaming all symptoms now on stress. Enterolab...
  24. Rice Dream is still processed using barley but the company has removed barley from the label and states that the amount is so small it doesn't matter. It does.
