  1. The illness and antibiotics shouldn't make any difference IMHO. With a family history of celiac and your DD showing symptoms a trial of the diet is in order no matter what the test results. Just don't start the diet until all testing for celiac you choose to do is finished.
  2. Hopefully it will be over soon. For some of us it takes a while but for others symptoms resolve quickly. I'm sorry this happened to you and hope you feel better soon.
  3. I wondered how long the mattress would last. Before I got another I would add up the cost of replacing one every two months for a year, I bet the cost will about equal a new mattress, albet an inexpensive one. Glad for the kitties sake that she didn't have anything to do with it.
  4. This needs to be evaluated by your doctor. It may be something as simple as hemmoroids but it can indicate other issues. Blood in the stool should never be ignored.
  5. Your son's history mirrors my sons. He also had menigitis at under a month old. You could ask for a blood test but do be aware that at his age the likelyhood of a false negative is high. I would get the blood test done while he is still on the formula that seems linked to the issue and then unless you are going to put him through the endoscopy I would...
  6. I would ask them to do a full celiac panel on her.
  7. That doctor sounds like a real jerk. I am glad UMMC is helping you and I hope they are able to figure it out. If I were you I would get full copies of my records from the neph you just saw and look for another one. Perhaps UMMC might know of one in your area that they have worked with before.
  8. Anyone who has used Enterolab likely got this invite. I would go if I could as it sounds like fun and I would be interested in hearing him speak on his research. The only difference between this invite and the ones I get from folks like the GIG is that his band is playing during the event. I am thankful for Dr. Fine and his tests. I just wish I knew he...
  9. No It's not. Here is the ingredients of the grilled breast Grilled Chicken Breast Filet: Chicken breast filets with rib meat, water, seasoning (salt, sugar, food starch-modified, maltodextrin, spices, dextrose, autolyzed yeast extract, hydrolyzed [corn gluten, soy, wheat gluten] proteins, garlic powder, paprika, chicken fat, chicken broth, natural flavors...
  10. My depression usually shows up a little bit sooner and it shows up hard. In my case the actual 'life is not worth living' part lifts within a day or so but the exhaustion and other stuff last much longer. Your not alone in this reaction. It amazes me sometimes just how much of a neurotoxin gluten can be. I hope you feel better soon.
  11. I ordered some of the California Baby brand a couple months ago, it is nice but really out of my budget. Someone here had mentioned Shikai and I finally found it in Wegmans last week and it seems to work well for me. I am also allergic to soy so finding a shampoo and conditioner that doesn't leave me itching has been tough.
  12. I like Wegmans Rice Milk and for drinking chocolate Hemp milk.
  13. I hope they have some answers for you and I think it is wonderful that the doctors in Maryland are stepping up to the plate for you. You deserve to give yourself a big pat on the back for continueing to search for answers and your doctors at home deserve a kick in the rear for not listening. I hope things improve soon.
  14. For me the biggest success is I am still alive and in less pain than I ever remember in my entire life. I was very difficult to diagnose and very ill for a very long time. When I was diagnosed I only expected my GI issues to go away and I would have been happy for just that. My last 5 years undiagnosed I was up every night with gut wrenching pain and D...
  15. I have never heard of sodium phosphate being a gluten issue. That I personally would not worry about. Cross contamination doesn't not have to be declared on a label as far as gluten goes. The most common, to my knowledge, flavoring agent that is a danger to us is malt. If that is used in small amounts as a flavoring it does not have to be declared. Many...
  16. Perhaps a better word would have been a 'lab slip'. It is just the slip you take to the lab that the doctor writes what tests he wants done on. They will need to draw blood again. Do not go gluten free until after all testing is done, including the endoscopic exam if you are having one. As for your son ask your ped to test him. After all the tests are...
  17. I would call the doctor that ordered the original blood tests and ask them to call in or let you pick up a script for a celiac panel, including a total IGA as well as the celiac tests. They shouldn't need to see you to do this. Also ask them to send you a copy of the results as soon as they are in. You don't need to see either a GI or the rheumy to have...
  18. Check and see if there is an 'Angel Food Ministries' in your area. They serve folks of all incomes and the food is really cheap. They do have gluten free boxes available. They distribute usually once a month. Other than that if you have or can get a rice cooker (about 20 bucks at wally world) they can help a lot. I use them for rice and there is a...
  19. If you go to that thread meantioned I put a link there to the page put up by the USDA. If there are flavorings added the ingredients of those flavorings do not need to be disclosed. I usually call a company to make sure if a meat has broth or flavorings added.
  20. Here is a link to the USDA act sheet on meat and poulty labeling. Open Original Shared Link What are Labeling Requirements for Additives? The statutes and regulations to enforce the statutes require certain information on labels of meat and poultry products so consumers will have complete information about a product. In all cases, ingredients must...
  21. By saying you don't get it yourself I assume that means you dipped into someone elses jar. It was not the Pnut butter that got you it was crumbs from others uses before you. You need your own jar.
  22. That poor guy!!!!! I think you meant he was the plugger, but your slip of the fingers has given the best laugh I have had in a long time. Back on topic, the guy should get tested as his symptoms do sound like he could be one of us.
  23. I am going to suggest that you avoid what they are telling you to avoid and make an appointment to get the results throughly explained to you. Write down your questions and bring them in with you, write down the doctors answers to be sure that you understand them and that they have understood your questions.
  24. Au Jus is gluten free it is simply the juices from the meat cooked down a bit. HOWEVER if it is prepared in a pan that isn't safe it is not gluten free. I wouldn't have touched it either
  25. I would ask your NP for the name of the med and the company that makes it and call them. Chances are excellent that it is going to be fine, like Peter says I have never heard of an injection having gluten but it will set your mind and hers at ease.
