  1. Your son just had a very postive reaction to a gluten challenge after exclusion. Contact your doctor before you give him any more. That reaction was very violent and IMHO should be diagnostic enough.
  2. Thanks Brian, I had considered that as a possibility but I eat so low fat.... but I am going to get off my butt and see a doctor ASAP. If it happens again I may make my first ever call for a ride in that big white van. Just to be safe.
  3. Yea I know, Whenever I step back and say to myself 'now what would you tell someone else to do' that is always the response I give myself. I interviewed a dentist today and found something in his office with references to a med team that combines an internist, an acupuncturist and chinese herbalist all in one place. They are only about 20 minutes away...
  4. I found this in todays news on yahoo. It doesn't surprise me. Thought others might find it interesting. Note that the countries that are on the top of the list are ones that are celiac savvy. Not a coincidence in my opinion. France did best -- with 64.8 deaths deemed preventable by timely and effective health care per 100,000 people, in the study period...
  5. An endoscopy is the test for celiac, not a colonoscopy. If they are doing a colonoscopy have them add the endo on at the same time. If you choose to go that route. Early damage is not always visible on inspection so be sure they take multiple biopsies from multiple places as the damage can be on a microscopic level. Biopsies can miss us for multiple reasons...
  6. It is certainly a step in the right direction. I would be really overjoyed if they addressed gluten and not just wheat. It looks like they will still be able to hide barley if they choose to, one of the most commonly snuck in offenders.
  7. I agree completely with what has already been mentioned so I won't repeat that great advice. I just want to add that Gluten Free Pantry makes a french bread mix that makes the best pizza crust you could ever eat, IMHO. They have the pizza crust recipe right on the box. I doubt your youngsters will know the difference. I also agree with Ursa that you most...
  8. Thank you so much for posting this. I found the last paragraph to be very eyeopening. Perhaps it was the Versed that caused the horrible reaction I had on my last endo. It may also explain the reactions my son and I have had to the other two drugs that were mentioned. This is something we definately are going to look into. With the ammonia levels in...
  9. Thank you all for your replies. It seems it may have been a kidney stone moving. I passed a small one last night. I am going to get throughly checked out by a doctor, and if nothing else this has shown me I need to get over my fear of them and find one. I have gone through so many useless tests that I don't get very good treatment with the doctors at...
  10. I was dealing with something similar last spring after my bout with diverticulitis. In my case it was not gluten it turned out to be soy. Soy gave me very similar mental effects but clogs my system for days. My BMs will look like train wrecks, little pieces distinct that ball up at the end of the line and are very difficult to pass. The only thing I found...
  11. I need to find a doctor in the Upstate NY area between Rochester and Syracuse, preferably not inside the cities as I don't handle heavy traffic well. Anyone know a good GP or Internist?
  12. Yea I guess I know I need to get off my skinny butt and get to a doctor. I am just in a doctor limbo right now. It seems they always make me sicker, but I know I am not alone there. I think I'll see if anyone in the doctor section can recommend one in my area. I had the echo stress test a couple years ago and while my stress part of the test was fine...
  13. I am so sorry you got such a jerk. I hope he will eat have to eat his words when the tests come back. Make sure you get a copy of those test results in your hands, you have a legal right to copies of all records from your visit also. Including his notes. Some doctors will call a positive result that is only one or two points into positive a negative...
  14. I have been thinking about asking this all day. I don't know if I am concerned needlessly or if I should be more concerned than I am, if you all can understand that. At about 4 am this morning I woke suddenly in a cold sweat with severe pain under my right ribcage. It basically immobolized me for a few minutes and then went away. I haven't been feeling...
  15. I do thank you for the post and in advance for any links you may add to it. I have done a bit of googling but I will be doing more. The only genetic studies I had were looking specifically for celiac genes so I don't know what others I may carry.
  16. So that's what that was called, notice the past tense I learn so much here. I did have this and it did take a while for them to stop forming. I haven't see one now in over 3 years. I do still have some heavy ridges running vertically on most of my nails but they are also a bit better. Oh and I am starting to get moons back finally. Although the ones...
  17. It is your call but I wouldn't touch those. When a company states that something tests out at less than 20ppm to me that means that the item is made with gluten grain ingredients that they believe are at a small enough level so that most of us will not react. I do not consider any level of gluten to be safe. I would find another cracker that is made without...
  18. I agree you need to see someone soon. If you have pinched a nerve or have a disk that is giving you problems not doing so could result in more damage. You do not want to ice this for more than 10 minutes at a time. Ten minutes on for ice and 20 minutes off. For heat relief run your hot water until it is as hot as it will get then take a small towel and...
  19. Thanks for posting this. You may have helped me more than you could imagine. I seem to have a lot of problems with proteins of any kind. I am constantly sick when I have my DS home and am fixing high meat and protein foods for him. He isn't doing real well either. My twin died of some sort of autoimmune liver destruction at age 15, they never gave a...
  20. Unless you bloat from other fiber sources, veggies, fruits and other gluten free grains I would think you are reacting. What other reactions are you now experiencing? If it was a gluten type of reaction, (not all celiacs tolerate oats) it may take a day or two for the D or C to hit.
  21. It has been so long since I was actually hungry that I have forgotten what it feels like. In my case I wonder if it was so many years of negative reinforcement with food. Like Pavlov's dog (sp) in reverse. I have noticed that the only time my tummy rumbles now is when it gets something it doesn't like. Since food intolerances will make some of us feel...
  22. Thanks for posting that link, it looks like something I will find interesting to delve into further. I do so love researching stuff. It sounds like she has a good group of doctors that are being proactive and thorough that is a good thing.
  23. The Giovanni products are nice. Even their golden wheat shampoo is gluten-free, and yes I spoke to the rep about that as it doesn't have a lick of wheat in it. I liked the 50/50 shampoo and Smooth as Silk conditioner. They also have a number of new styling products, I used to use the hair gel, and skin care but I haven't checked the gluten statis of most...
  24. Sandy are they using this finding to tell you she can't have celiac and that she doesn't need the diet? Her gene is real close to one of the ones I carry. Has she gone gluten free yet? Has it helped any? DQBI*0302 is a recognized celiac gene in Europe, I wonder if they are talking about the same gene but just with an extra 0? This is an excerpt from...
