ARCHIVED Unusual Combinations
ravenwoodglass replied to bartfull's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't have any odd combos myself but this subject brought back memories. My Dad after a few drinks would come home and make himself fried potatoes and eggs. That was okay but when he added in the ketchup and topped it with peanut butter my Mom would have to go out to the porch. She said if she didn't just the smell would make her puke. I would watch him... -
ARCHIVED Is This Celiac?...help!
ravenwoodglass replied to Yourbabs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have they tested her for celiac and did they do biopsies to check for it when she had an endo? She sure does sound like one of us. The rash you speak of is it very itchy and does it leave purple scars? Has a derm ever done a biopsy to check and see if the rash might be DH (the skin form of celiac)? It might be a good idea once all celiac related testing... -
ARCHIVED Frustration To The Max
ravenwoodglass replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So sorry you are having to deal with this. Have you made sure that all meds and supplements are gluten free? Is your home gluten-free? What are you typically eating and drinking? Are you a smoker (cigs)? If you have pets are they gluten-free? Is there anything that helps the pain like Pepto Bismal etc? I wish I had a helpful suggestion for you and I hope... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Taking A Vitamin B12 Supplement?
ravenwoodglass replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I take a dosage much higher and have never had an issue with it although I do notice some increase in energy. Are you taking any other drugs or supplements that might have interacted with it? You may want to mention the reaction to your doctor as you can get injections instead if your levels are low. Wish I could help you with speeding it out of your system... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Kitchen Utensils, Etc.
ravenwoodglass replied to Dapper's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The big things to replace are strainers or colanders, your toaster and unfortunately I would replace the mixer. For most of the stuff you mentioned I would just scrub them really well. If you have doubts about the cookie sheets then line them with foil when you use them or replace. I hate to say this but the pet parrot may be a big issue. When I was diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED My Crazy Symptoms And My Small Wallet
ravenwoodglass replied to IndiaEileen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes you could be celiac. Yes that would cause your iron levels to be low. Yes celiac can result in infertility. Ideally you should be tested for celiac while you are still eating gluten. If you want testing then go back on gluten right away. There are plenty of folks that are self-diagnosed either because of false negatives on testing, because they went... -
ARCHIVED Confused Re Biopsy Results And Lab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to carteem's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The blood test you had that was positive is quite diagnostic in itself. False negatives on biopsies are pretty common. Consider yourself celiac and follow the diet strictly. -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test!
ravenwoodglass replied to Missy1227's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have had the endo and the blood work. You don't have to wait for the results to get on the diet. Since false negatives with both are high you need to try the diet no matter what the results. -
ARCHIVED Next Step To Take
ravenwoodglass replied to amy31's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yea brushing off your fingers was likely not enough. I wash my hands whenever I come back in my house with soap and before handling food and depending on what I am cooking either just rinse or wash between ingredients and when I am done. With all the little ones either go with gluten free snacks like fruit, veggies sticks, gluten-free pretzels, Rice Crispies... -

Diana, Sorry to hear your leaving us. Stop in when you can even if it is under another name. -
ARCHIVED What Do These Results Mean?
ravenwoodglass replied to MelanieS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives with children are even higher than they are with adults. If your child is having symptoms after all celiac related tests are done give the diet a try. -
ARCHIVED 2Nd Set Of Blood Results
ravenwoodglass replied to KMMO320's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't worry about what this doctor says. Listen to your body. -
ARCHIVED What Do These Results Mean?
ravenwoodglass replied to MelanieS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This looks like her total IGA which is a bit low. It is not a celiac test but can be helpful if it is low because the doctor then should know that will throw off her celiac related IGA testing. Do post the rest of her results when you get them. -
ARCHIVED Large Amount Of Hair Loss
ravenwoodglass replied to amcam17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you taking any gluten-free vitamins? A good biotin might help in addition to a good high level multi. Also check and make sure all your toiletries are gluten free and be really careful about cross contamination. Many of us know how distressing this loss can be but hopefully it will stop soon. Your body has been under a lot of stress and as you heal it... -
ARCHIVED My celiac antibodies in my blood went up
ravenwoodglass replied to Drake429's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One thing that wasn't mentioned is meds. Have you checked all script and OTC meds as well as supplements for gluten? Some supplements will say gluten free but still contain wheat and/or barley grass so you need to read the whole label. Other non-food sources of gluten contamination would be in pet foods, art and craft supplies and glues and items used for... -
ARCHIVED B12, I Was Not Aware
ravenwoodglass replied to cmoore's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You need to go back on a regular gluten filled diet for at least 3 months before testing for celiac. Your doctor can still test for vitamin deficiences but you would need to stop the supplements for a bit beforehand. Your doctor will know for how long you need to stop them. If you are celiac or gluten intolerant and consuming even small amounts of gluten... -
ARCHIVED Captain Morgan Spiced Rum (Silver)
ravenwoodglass replied to Chad Sines's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Easy way to test whether it is the Capt that is bothering you. Get some clear rum, I like Bacardi, and drink that instead for a couple of weeks and see how you feel. If you are feeling better in the mornings then try adding the Capt back in for a few nights and see if the issues return. -
ARCHIVED Diverticulosis - New Research!
ravenwoodglass replied to ShayFL's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
In my experience there was a definate connection. In my colonoscopy pre-diagnosis I was found to have "the most extensive diverticulosis I have ever seen" as my GI said. The outpouches were throughout my entire large intestine rather than the usual place in the left descending colon. I had a repeat colonoscopy 5 years after diagnosis and 90% of the diverticuli... -

Thanks for sharing. -
I am betting on the RR burger. Gluten reactions can be delayed for up to a week. The products that you are questioning look to be gluten free. I would wonder about the soy sauce IF it was not ordered through a US company or carried in stores here. If it is marketed in the US it would have to list the wheat if it is there. You also could be having issues...

Looked these up and the products look great. Can you tell me what they smell like? -
ARCHIVED Help Again
ravenwoodglass replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you can be patient (I know that is hard) being on the diet will calm down your immune system. Your immune system is in hyperdrive because of the antibodies and once those resolve you will be feeling a lot better. I was allergic to 98 out of 99 things my doctor tested me for pre-diagnosis and that was one of the biggest clues my doctor had that despite... -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed In Chidhood But Not On Gluten Free Til Now
ravenwoodglass replied to Pabboo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wonder the same thing. We are one of the most unhealthy populations in the world and I often wonder if Celiac isn't the primary issue that then leads to a lot of the other problems that develop. I had so many painful health issues that just went away on the diet, from migraines to arthritis to 'MS' that it really makes me feel testing the whole population... -
ARCHIVED Bp Drug Linked To Gluten Sensitivity
ravenwoodglass replied to lcarter's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for posting. That might be great news for folks who are taking that drug and thinking they have refactory celiac because the diet is not helping them. Hopefully they are really getting this study out there to GPs and GIs.
