  1. I promise that if your parents ever give me $1000 I will buy an oven!!! . . . and have you over for dinner (gluten free AND low sodium)!!!
  2. I am the only one who loves the big turkey dinner with all the fixins . . . Nothing like putting all that work into a meal and nobody appreciating it (daughter putting ketchup on the turkey so she can choke it down ). This year I'm making spaghetti and meatballs. The pumpkin pie is still on . . . that was the only item that made the cut.
  3. I didn't know that it was suppose to be called out so I never looked for it. I will the next time I go to the grocery store. It obviously isn't big enough to catch your eye without specifically looking for it. I'm assuming it will be in very fine print at the bottom of a sign that you wouldn't think should carry that kind of information. Might have to...
  4. From: Open Original Shared Link How are waxes applied? Waxes are used only in tiny amounts to provide a microscopic coating surrounding the entire product. Each piece of waxed produce has only a drop or two of wax. Coatings used on fruits and vegetables must meet FDA food additive regulations for safety. Produce shippers and supermarkets in the...
  5. No you don't necessarily have to give up milk. My daughter did not give up milk. The damage in your intestines caused by Celiac Disease reduces your ability to process the sugar in the milk. Some people have so much damage that they need to take a break for a while (until they have healed a bit), some people are bothered by the protein in the milk and...
  6. I also wanted to add that usually in gluten free baking, there often is a need to use more leavening than in the (equivalent) gluten recipe . . . but not to the point where it affects the taste.
  7. Actually, I think this is pretty good guess. I know some people don't like Wikipedia as a reference but it summerizes it nicely: Open Original Shared Link Have you ever noticed that you can buy aluminum free baking powder? Tells you that there must be some baking powder with aluminum in it, huh? You can google it and find more info but it's used...
  8. If you've got another option, I would take it. I now drive two hours to my daughter's GI (thankfully, we are at a once-a-year check-up stage) because the last GI she had told me on a couple of different occasions that something couldn't have happened . . . like she couldn't react within an hour of accidentally ingesting wheat . . . ummmm, sorry, saw it...
  9. Ohhhh . . . that's a good one!! Having issues with that here at home. One of my kids will say "BRB" as they leave the room and I yell after them . . . "USE YOUR WORDS" like I'm talking to a 2-year old
  10. Just from personal experience, I can tell you that I tried a 6 month gluten free trial diet to see if it would help with my joint pain. Absolutely no problems going off gluten and absolutely no problems going back on gluten.
  11. Does butter bother you at any other times? . . . Just checking to see if it's the dairy or the popcorn . . . and yes, I think popcorn can be hard to digest - particularly the hulls which you wouldn't have to deal with in a product with corn starch or corn flour or corn meal. Bartful's rice cakes w/butter might be an interesting experiment for you. It...
  12. When my daughter was first diagnosed, a good friend of mine was educating herself of the ramifications of what gluten free meant and the changes it would mean in our lifestyle. She called one night with some great news . . . My Good Friend: "Guess what?? They make gluten free beer!!! Skeeter can drink gluten free beer!!!" Me: "Well thanks for...
  13. I'm answering for my daughter . . . Question 4: 2 Doctors (her Pediatrician who then sent us onto a Ped GI) Question 5: Symptoms improved right away (1-2 weeks) but took about 10 months to resolve completely)
  14. Last time I checked, the Nacho Cheese Doritos were a no-no . . . not because of MSG but because there was wheat flour in them. The Cool Ranch Doritos are OK.
  15. OK . . . for all you guys that have been looking for gravy . . . Today at Whole Foods I saw a product by Imagine Foods. Twas gravy!!! I have never seen that before. It could have been there for years and I just now noticed it. They had several flavours (turkey, beef, mushroom.) Says gluten free on the front of the package. Open Original Shared...
  16. PF Chang's Broccoli and Beef . . . or is it Beef and Broccoli? . . . . . . and their chocolate dome
  17. Just a quick comment . . . you can't use the Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup for green bean casserole. Check Pacific Foods Cream of Mushroom or Progresso's Creamy Mushroom (it's got slices of mushrooms...which doesn't work at my house unless I puree it because heaven forbid we see a mushroom in our casserole! )
  18. . . . and no straws. The suction created in the mouth can keep the incisions from clotting/healing. Just offering my advice of having both sweet and savory items. Sweet (puddings/jello/milkshakes/etc) sounds good until you've had them all day and then you just want something salty. Take a look at the Pacific Foods soups. Some of them are already...
  19. Hmmmm . . . this seems soooo familiar . . . OH!! That's right!! I asked the same thing a few years ago. Have a look at this thread. There are several options to choose from.
  20. Here is another version of Pamela's from 2007. This matches up with the ingredient list on the back of the package pretty well (no soy flour in this one) but like previously mentioned, I think it would be fairly forgiving if you needed to swap one flour/starch for another. Poppi, I'm sure the buttermilk "flour" mentioned in the previous recipe was actually...
  21. Yes! Yes! Yes! Those holy pizza pans make ALL the difference in the world in getting a nice crispy crust!!
  22. Agreed.
  23. I will say that I do like Pamela's Mix also. We use it mostly for pancakes but I also like to use it in my choc chip cookies and my banana muffins (but only as a partial replacement for the "flour" component . . . say 1 part pamelas and 2 parts flour mix). It's too dense to use in some of my other (cake-type) recipes. In a pinch on vacation, I will often...
  24. fourlisa, I see that you are a new member. Does that mean that you are new to gluten free as well? If so, the alcohol (or some other component in the beer) may just be a little too much for your system at the moment. You might want to give yourself a little more time. That being said. I personally like the hard ciders . . . and there is always...
  25. Nope . . . not just you . . . me, too!!! I normally use Annalise Roberts blend recipe but the last time I stocked up on my baking flours I couldn't get the Authentic Foods SuperFine Brown Rice Flour. (I can get it locally and not have to pay the outrageous shipping . . . the flour is pricey enough). I ended up trying the King Arthur's. It was OK but...
