  1. I saw it on the DISNEY channel last night!!!!! There was a couple in the park and the gal brought out a popsicle and the guy couldn't believe that she would dare offer him something with HFCS in it, she asked what the reasoning was, he couldn't give her an answer, only wondered if she brought 2 popsicles after she explained how it was made from corn and...
  2. I do this too. I will even make a "triple decker" --1 pancake, PB, 1 pancake, cut fruit (like bananas), 1 pancake. It packs really well for lunches and the other kids think it's so cool! I wonder what the issue with the Lorka bread is. Unless it's just my oven, this is the only recipe I've found to be very forgiving no matter what different flours...
  3. Rice first and then veggies is what is usually recommended. Babies have a natural sweet tooth, so it's better to wait on the fruits. I made all of our baby food, and I used a book called Super Baby Food and it does a really good job of outlining what foods to feed the baby and when--plus, it saves you a TON of $$ on baby food and it really doesn't take...
  4. I take the calcium/magnesium suppliment by Nature's Bounty and VitD by Nature Made--both appear to be OK by the label, but maybe double check if you're interested. If you're taking a Calcium suppliment of any kind, always take with food or it can really upset your stomach! It's important to take the Ca/Mg together because each helps the body absorb the...
  5. As a replacement, my dh has fallen in love with Corn Thins by Real Foods. I find them at Whole Foods and have occasionally seen them in the regular grocery store. They have a few different flavors, but they are really thin and he likes the crunch. I really like them with PB and apples!!
  6. We eat at OSF occasionally and have never had a problem. I do make a point to tell the waitstaff WHY we're ordering the rice pasta and ask that an allergy alert be placed next to our order. From my observation, I always ask now for the bread to be sliced in the kitchen before brought to the table--unless you can avoid the bread altogether. The bread is...
  7. For you, I would really recommend journaling everything you eat, then you'd know for sure how many calories you're eating. After a week or so of that, if we know what you're eating and how many calories you take in, we can help you evaluate what to modify to help you lose. For your dd, I've learned that I have to be an example for mine. I really don...
  8. This is our VERY favorite!!! It came from Epicurious. It also freezes well after baking. Pizza crust 3/4 cup tapioca flour* 1/2 cup white rice flour* 2/3 cup chickpea flour* 1/3 cup sorghum flour* 1 teaspoon xanthum gum 1 teaspoon fine sea salt 1/2 cup whole milk 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast, from 1 (1/4-ounce) package 2 teaspoons sugar...
  9. I do a vegetarian lasagna that my dd asks for--she specifically asks me if I can hide lots of vegetables in my lasagna I do just a standard recipe, but instead of using meat, I add steamed and pureed broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and zucchini (Costco Normandy blend)--about 3 cups worth--and I add it to the tomato sauce. It has a little texture to it, not...
  10. I just counted 15 boxes of Nutrition Kitchen soy pasta (bought a case and had some already) and 6 of the giant bags of Pamela's--I panicked because I thought I was out, so I had my subscrition at amazon send me a case ASAP because I was down to my last bag, thought I had gotten a case fairly recently but had been baking a lot--I didn't realize that my dh...
  11. I agree!!! My kids are SOOOO much healthier than any other kid in their classes! We focus so much on whole foods that they are getting probably more fiber and vitamins than they need.
  12. I'm 5'11", my sister is 6'3", brother is 6'5", my husband is 6'5" his sister is only about 5'3" but she also has cerebral palsy and has spine formation issues. None of us are diagnosed Celiacs--but my kids are, my son has only been gluten-free for 5mo and has moved from the 10% in height to the 55%-~38" tall (!!!!) and my 6yo is 52" tall which is past the...
  13. I liked picazzo's pizza from the samples I had from our gluten-free food fair. I know JennyC has eaten there and she said it was good. I think the Garlic Jim's depends on the location. Ours (In Vancouver WA) gets theirs from a local gluten-free bakery who is a little heavy on the bean flour to me, but my kids like it a lot which is all that matters and...
  14. Was she saying that eating gluten-free food feels like swallowing glass? That's weird!
  15. Trader Joes has a rice penne. I don't like the way it tastes, but it would be great for stringing
  16. Can you suggest anything for a 3yo boy who will eat anything you hand him? Is it too much to put a t-shirt on him that says "DON'T FEED ME" on it? I don't want to have to follow him around at every family function--although everyone knows of the allergy, people sometimes forget. I ALWAYS preface our family beach trips every few months with "Please don...
  17. My favorite is the peanut butter zigzag--nothing better than chocolate and peanut butter
  18. The cupcakes will be in the shape of a guitar before I load on the purple frosting. She really wanted a "High School Musical" party, I said no and compromised with a Hanna Montana (hence the guitar)--she's not allowed to watch either one, but that's what all the kids are doing these days, and it's just decorations
  19. Not vegetarian, she just loves mac and cheese. I actually have a bunch of those sausages in the freezer and am going to Costco in the morning. That's a great-and easy-idea! That sounds AMAZING-I'm definately going to have to make that--SOON
  20. Vancouver too at the Salmon Creek location. It's a nice treat for us and I think it's less expensive than Smokey's pizza (also has gluten-free pizza)
  21. When the Envirokids cereal and bars are on sale at Fred Meyer, I buy as much as I can. I refuse to spend 4-6$ on a box of cereal, so 2 for 5$ is a great deal over here! (I had 15 boxes in my pantry last week--you never know when they'll go on sale again )
  22. To preface, I'm not much of a measurer, I also try different cheeses-I usually just dump stuff in until it's the consistancy and flavor I want.... I use the oven directions and I put sliced tomatoes on the top--add in as much cheese as you like, I don't really measure it--I taste it until it's as sharp as I like it (pretty sharp) and as creamy as I like...
  23. Makes 24 cupcakes
  24. My dd wants my "famous" homemade mac and cheese for her birthday dinner (it's really not that special ) and since I will be serving about 30 family members and, I'm stuck for side dishes. Here's a tentative menu: Mac&cheese-for sure caprese salad-?? roasted asparagus-?? chocolate chip mint cupcakes-for sure chocolate chip mint ice cream...
  25. That's probably your best bet. I would worry about CC though. We always bring our own food, it's the safest thing to do and then you can relax and enjoy yourself and not worry about getting sick.
