  1. I had one of the bars at breakfast this AM--LOVED IT. I can't have the bags of cashew crunch in the house because it mysteriously disappears from the cupboard (and ends up on the outside of my thighs ). I also found a bag of multigrain chips that normally I wouldn't have looked at because multigrain almost always means wheat, but I picked them up anyway...
  2. Try the champagne (3/4) with Martinelli's pomagranate sparkling cider (1/4). That got me in a bit of troube at Christmas--it's WONDERFUL!
  3. i routinly make the Pamelas amazing wheat free bread, but I don't use a bread machine, I use an electric mixer and the dough is pretty light and fluffy, and when I let it rest for 60 minutes, i set it on top of an electric heating pad set to medium (trick of mu great grandmother), I use silicone baking pan and follow the baking directions, it's always turned...
  4. If you PM or email me your current height, weight, age current activity level, any other allergies (than gluten) and food loves and hates I can get you a 'plan' I've created based on what I've done to lose and keep off 100#. It's really not something that I can post because it is very specific to each person. I really try to tailor it. I'd be interested...
  5. If you feel better walking than running, increase the incline and decrease the speed--MUCH more effective than walking flat-and makes one's butt look GREAT!!. I would still look into the arrythmia possibility as well as BP changes WITH exercise. It doesn't always matter what your resting BP is...
  6. I don't personally like the Bob's chocolate cake or chocolate chip cookies, they have that weird aftertaste. Maybe I need to experiment with different additives (like the coffee) because I bought a case of each and need to figure out a way to use them!! (I do LOVE their cornbread though!!)
  7. Ive done both the taco bar and ice cream/sundae bar and both were big hits--especially the sundae bar!!!
  8. That's the only mix I buy, I've made it a few different ways, but the best BY FAR is the mocha version on the package. I made it with very strong coffee. It didn't taste at all like coffee, just very dark and rich. My chocolate-hater husband LOVED it and fought my DD for the last piece!!!
  9. I don't blame you for wanting to be super careful, I feel the same way. I can be careful for me, but my DD, she's only 6 and we have to be super careful for her. I'm really paranoid about what comes into my house and although we aren't completely gluten-free, we might as well be. My mom and sister have looked into gluten NOT being beneficial for anyone...
  10. We have some acquaintances with custody of their grandson. They are a gluten-free household but he is not intolerant at all--as far as all the tests go (but they are). He has a really bad reaction if he goes out and has gluten. It was explained to them that his body doesn't know how to process it very well any more, so it's very common for it to 'reject...
  11. If this is happening frequently, I would recommend talking with your Dr. If eating before isn't helping, you might want to consider having a stress test to make sure you aren't having BP issues or arrythmia problems--PVC's (premature ventricular contractions) or SVT (super-ventricular tachycardia). This can happen without you being aware that your heart...
  12. I use the Bob's Redmill bean flour mix and for every recipe I make, I use 1/2 that and 1/2 brown rice flour-it cuts the bean taste. No one could believe that all the baking I did this holiday was gluten-free. I also add ground flax seeds to a lot of my baking for extra fiber.
  13. How could I have possibly missed those 2--all time favorite is 16 candles, probably seen it 100x (no kidding!!!)
  14. Anything Julia Roberts-- Pretty Woman Nottinghill (LOVE this one) Runaway Bride-kinda cute Also 2nd the Holiday, really liked that -just saw Waitress with Keri Russell-LOVED that too Toilet humor--Superbad was super funny, but NOT for kids-or people who don't like significant toilet humor (Borat was too much for me) My favorite of ALL TIME--from...
  15. We must have been writing at the same time, I didn't see your update-or notice the lack of dinner in your journal (it's been a long week!!). Conrats!! I know how frustrating it is trying to lose weight. I've been there. As far as the exercise goes, do whatever you can do, it's just important to move. If you can't lift weights, can you do yoga/pilates...
  16. I looked at your fitday journal and if that's accurate, it doesn't appear that you're eating enough. 1200 calories is not enough if you want to lose weight. Your body goes into "starvation mode" and holds onto whatever you put in because it doesn't know when it will get nourishment again. This happened to me. When I stared looking at the numbers, I increased...
  17. I know I'm a little late in the season, but I couldn't find a recent thread regarding candy canes. Are all gluten-free or just certain brands? Any brands you know of specifically--not the jelly belly fruity ones, just your plain peppermint canes!
  18. Jars and jars and jars of PB saved me thru my pregnancy with my DD. Had I not eaten it by the spoonful, I would have gotten sick--it was the only thing I wanted/craved. There are no nut allergies in my family, my Dr. wasn't concerned. DD has no nut sensitivities, but doesn't really care much for PB now
  19. Based on the bricks I origionally had to scrape off the pan, they would probably work for a gingerbread house. I cook mine a little under-done so they're soft, so I guess just cook longer!
  20. For us, we had 2 local saviors--(in Portland, OR) Dr. Kelvin Snyder, Sunset Pediatrics Dr. William Marshall, peds GI, Emanuel Hospital For the adults out there in PDX, I see a GREAT internal medicine Dr who happens to specialize in nutrition and Celiac Disease (and I don't have celiac disease). Her name is Char Glenn at the Nob Hill Internal Medicine...
  21. You shouldn't have any issues as long as you add xanthan gum to the dry ingredients--maybe separate dry and wet and then easily incorperate the dry into the wet and don't over mix.
  22. I use the recipe from my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook, I use 1/2 bean flour mix and 1/2 rice flour and add the xanthan gum per cake recipe. I can get it for you later if you'd like. The kids loved it and it was so easy!!
  23. My DD and I made these this weekend. I got the recipe here, but modified it a little. They were FANTASTIC!!!!! I kept the dough in the fridge overnight--could put in the freezer for a faster result. You MUST use parchment paper (tried one batch without and I had to scrape them off the sheet) I actually rolled them out between the parchment I used on...
  24. So, we tried the pizza. I personally didn't care for the crust, my husband thought it was OK, but my DD LOVED it! Which is what really matters, right! So I feel good about ordering it for her, she ate 3 pieces and had no problems. I talked to the staff at length and they were really great with me. Overall, it was a good experience and I know we will...
