  1. In addition to what ShayFL suggested, have you eliminated all possibilities of cross contamination? What concerns me is this paragraph: If your family is eating gluten, the cc from utensils or from them touching anything else in the house after they eat is certainly possible. The other possibility that jumps out at me is that you spell "Coeliac" the...
  2. Just off the top of my head, as penicillin is grown on mold and yeast and mushrooms are actually molds (or at least all in the family), that all ties together quite neatly. I think yeasts are used in part of the vinegar making process. I have no idea where those opiates and other foods fit into the picture, but I'm sure someone else will!
  3. There have been posts by people who felt unexpectedly better gluten free and unexpectedly awful when they ate gluten after being gluten free. Others have posted the same thing about family members. It is not at all strange or unheard of. In your wife's case, this situation could have been Applebee's, or it could have been gluten, or it could have been...
  4. I have never been able to eat bananas. They make me bloat and I feel awful. (insert little sick green icon here!) Banana bread, on the other hand, doesn't bother me at all!
  5. Do you know why your doctor wants you to see a GI? If it's to do a biopsy to confirm the blood test, it might already be too late as you have begun to heal already. Are there other issues? If your doctor just wants you to have a biopsy and wants the GI to conform that, I think I might politely decline for the above reason. Paying out more money just...
  6. Would she read books? I'm finding that some people would read a book but won't do online research. You never know but what a strategically placed book (say, in the bathroom!) might just work wonders!
  7. *MY* jar of peanut butter has MOM written on the lid with a black Sharpie. Great minds must think alike!
  8. Actually it will be easier if your whole house is gluten free. Only one set of dishes and cooking utensils, only one meal instead of 2, no cc worries, etc. Many people if not most find that by buying fresh and frozen meats and produce and NOT buying processed foods, their grocery bill actually goes down. There are a few gluten free main stream cereals...
  9. I just wanted to emphasize what has already been said that making your whole house gluten free is by far the easiest and safest thing to do. Do read the labels in the store. But much safer and healthier is to shop around the edges where the fresh and frozen meat and produce are found. Much of the processed food you find in the center aisles have...
  10. Have you ever sat down with him and told him that? It might open doors of communication and make things easier for everyone. I assume he is on a gluten-free diet at your house?
  11. This must be a universal problem One place I worked put up a big sign that read. "YOUR MOTHER DOESN'T WORK HERE. PLEASE PICK UP YOUR OWN MESS." But alas, that didn't work, either. Sigh.
  12. Open Original Shared Link There is contact info at the bottom of the page.
  13. Read through this Parents section and you will find lots of posts about kids who have Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personalities, depending on whether they have been exposed to gluten or not. I think you have your answer about you son's gluten intolerance, but agree that as not every issue has been resolved, more testing should be done.
  14. I'm not sure about Canadian laws, but as ravenwoodglass posted, in the USA allergens in medications and supplements do NOT have to be labeled. It would seem that everyone but the FDA can see how asinine that is, but whatever . . . Even worse, once regulations do go into effect, companies will be allowed to label a product as "Gluten Free" if the gluten...
  15. If the wheat product - pizza crust or otherwise - were dog poop, would you take the topping off and eat it? No? Then don't eat if off the pizza crust, either.
  16. Since I've been on the Missions Committee at my church, I've receiving a lot of communications from those serving in cultures very different from the Western culture we have in America. Our culture places emphasis on the individual. Other cultures place emphasis on the group. Or on society as a whole. The individual - or self - is not as important as...
  17. Those of us in San Diego know exactly what you are dealing with. The fires move so fast you almost can't out-drive never mind out run them. In 2003 there was so much smoke in my neighborhood - not really near the fires but directly downwind - that you could hardly see to the end of the block. The wind was blowing most of the smoke - but obviously...
  18. Buy a copy of Lennart Nillson's "A Child Is Born" and follow along as your growing baby develops. It should be available in any book store or probably cheaper from Amazon or eBay.
  19. There is a rather thorough list of what has to be cleaned in Open Original Shared Link thread. Compile the relevant cleaning chores and then tell her that she can use flour any time she wants, provided that she (NOT YOU) do all of this cleaning afterward after each time she opens the flour bag. Package deal. No skimping. No exceptions. Her right to...
  20. YES! Thank you! I wonder why I couldn't find it . .
  21. Someone posted a while back that they had made a really good banana bread using Gluten-Free Pantry Muffin & Scone Mix. I did a forum search but didn't locate the post and I want to know what was substituted for what. Or did you just add bananas to the muffin recipe? And how many? 2? 3? One cup?
  22. I hate it when people won't do their own research and expect you to do for them what they are perfectly capable of doing for themselves. (I know a few of them!) Anyway, I would make a list of foods your daughter cannot have. Sometimes people forget just how many common things contain wheat. Include the obvious spaghetti, cereals, breads, cakes...
  23. There are now ads on both sides of the posts, but on my monitor I can put the posts in the middle by sliding the scroll bar along the bottom so I don't see any ads - only posts. (Sorry, Scott ) My monitor display is set at 1024 by 768. If you don't know what yours is, right click on a blank area of your desk top (I have Windows xp - other systems...
  24. Poor Baby! No matter what the doctor says, something is definitely not right. But mother's intuition usually is! I would take him off of gluten and dairy, too. As Ursa so often says, you don't need their permission to do that. My guess is that Eli will improve a lot in a very short time. Toddlers can indeed be picky but they don't hate...
  25. Open Original Shared Link has lots of recipes on their site - many of them gluten free. You can order the various flours online or buy them locally. Check the expiration dates if you decide to buy locally - especially if you are looking in a regular grocery store and not a health food store. I just saw expired xanthan gum at my local Ralph's.
