ARCHIVED Member Poll - Who Abstains From Other Foods Besides Gluten?
Nadtorious replied to Jeepster's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dairy-gives me a gluten-ish reaction every time Eggs-Make me toss my cookies Soy in large doses-same as above Nuts-Almost all seem to bother me Meat, unless it's grassfed organic-Gives me a reaction, plus I don't like eating something that's been munching on all the foods I can't eat -
I try to keep my caloric intake on the 30-30-40 (protein-fat-carbs) level because I'm somewhat sensitive to crashes and falls in blood sugar too (though nowhere what it used to be). I've heard from somewhere (runner's world or a similar publication) that buckwheat helps stabilize blood sugar levels, so I try to make that my breakfast alot. And I'll bring...

My personal opinion, and not everyone will agree with me, is that celiacs are just as "normal" as "normal" people, sometimes even healthier, as long as we stay 110% gluten free. I say this because I went through my first race season thinking I was completely gluten free, when I was actually eating it all the time. I get terrible anxiety, brain fog, and fatigue...

I race dowhill/4X/Super D and do several epics with my buddies every year. I eat a lot of omega 3's to help with recovery-2 pieces of salmon a day during race season and lots of walnuts and flax. I keep my diet very simple-Buckwheat, Rice, Popcorn, Quinoa, veggies, beans, fruit, nuts, seafood, water, etc. I drink watered down oj and apple juice during rides...

ARCHIVED Post gluten-free Symptoms...
Nadtorious replied to Moongirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My lymph nodes get WAAAAAAAAY swollen when I eat something wrong. I don't know why it would happen after you've gone gluten-free, but maybe it's more noticeable now that you didn't have it for a couple weeks. Nadia -

ARCHIVED I'm Afraid My Kitchen Will Be Toxic
Nadtorious replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I live with a couple of twenty something guys that eat gobs of gluten. I have never expected them to change their eating/cooking habits for me, so I have found ways around cross contamination. I use only non-porous cooking utensils-glass cutting board, stainless steel pans, etc. I "hide" my good knives, I use plastic cutlery, etc. I use the dishwasher... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Makes Me Paranoid!

He he. I use foil too, and my non celiac coworkers caught on and do it too because of the ease of cleanup Nadia -
ARCHIVED Wheat Makes Me Paranoid!
Nadtorious replied to tarnalberry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh my gosh----I am so glad I'm not the only person who feels the EXACT same way! I live with two twenty-something dudes that live off sandwiches and frozen pizza. I do most of my cooking from scratch, so I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and I get SOOOOOOOOO paranoid about every last crumb. I've walked in to see my frying pans being used for grilled... -

ARCHIVED Bath And Body Works
Nadtorious replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm super-duper-uber sensitive and I use their products all the time, including their lotion with oat protein in it. I wash my hands thoroughly before handling food though, so I don't know if cross contamination is an issue or not. I LOVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEE moonlight path! I have nearly every product in that fragrance-worn it sonce I was a kid! Love... -
What's your diet like? A lot of times body odor can be related to diet. (Anyone eaten curry lately? ) Nadia

What are the chances of a celiac passing it on to her baby? I'm super sensitive and don't want another "me". I don't have reactions very often-once a month or so, but I didn't get my period for 2 years because of celiac disease. I'm afraid of infertility and passing this disease on. Nadia

ARCHIVED Soy Intolerance! Please Read N Help
Nadtorious replied to romeo77's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just had a plain ol' biopsy back in the day, so it just showed gluten intolerence. Since then, I've realized that I definetly can't do dairy or eggs, just based on my body's reaction. Your body will tell you more than those tests, I believe. I can do soy, but in pure form. I make my own soy milk and eat plain roasted soy nuts every day without issue. However... -
That's awesome-my boss's sister is a celiac (although one that cheats frequently ), so she empathizes a bit. I got a fruit basket for Christmas, when normally I get stuck trying to fake excitement over a fruitcake or a box of cookies. Congrats! Nadia

ARCHIVED Blood Pressure Rise After Going gluten-free?
Nadtorious replied to celiachap's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Mine's always been very low- 90/60 range both before and after dx (I found out 3 years ago). When I have a bad reaction, it raises to around 120/100-doc thinks it's because my heart needs to work harder (gluten's pretty rough on me ). Perhaps, combined with your weight gain, it is your body finally able to absorb nutrients. I gained about 10 lbs after... -

Every bag I've ever seen has the "made in the same facility as wheat products" disclaimer on it, but I haven't tried them so I don't know. -
ARCHIVED Wheat, Its Not For Dinner.
Nadtorious replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome John I'm an avid cyclist too, and I do 10-15 races per year, plus lots of road trips to Moab and such. It is definetly a pain to get used to at first, but can be done. I love to cook too, and make everything from scratch (no gluten free substitutes for me). I eat a lot of buckwheat, rice, quinoa, and amaranth, especially during the race season... -

ARCHIVED Do You Find You Miss Food You Barely Even Ate?
Nadtorious replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hot dogs for me. The smell drives me crazy. Funny, coz when I was "normal", I hated them! -
I used to get SOOOOOO depressed every time I realized some food I really liked was making me sick. Still do. I'll try a new food and be hopeful I won't react to it, then be super depressed (on top of being glutened) when I realize I can't have it. It's a vicious cycle. It's gotten better-I do a lot of cooking completely from scratch, and it's pretty satisfying...

ARCHIVED Gluten In Medication?
Nadtorious replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I broke my collarbone, I was really scared I wouldn't be able to take any meds for the pain, as I'm not very trusting of ingredients in prescriptions. My doctor looked into several meds and they all had either a starch base or lactose base. We contacted a pharmacy that does a lot of special orders and the pharmacist was able to get a narcotic in straight... -
ARCHIVED Do You Ever Miss The Stupid Things?
Nadtorious replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really miss girl scout cookies, especially the caramel and coconut ones. Sour patch kids. Hot dogs, even though I never liked them before diagnosis, have been sounding really good lately. And definetely Pop Tarts! My boyfriend thinks I'm funny because when I go grocery shopping and I see something I like but can't have, I'll buy it for him (as long as... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Anxiety Dreams!
Nadtorious replied to laurelfla's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to have dreams about making the gooiest, greasiest grilled cheese, eating it, then realizing what I'd done and I'd die, then wake up with a start-kind of like the dream where you walk off the edge of a cliff and wake up before you hit the ground. Weird, huh?
