ARCHIVED Not Yet Diagnosed - Gluten Diet
GFinDC replied to Icis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi LCIS, The grains we react to as celiacs are wheat, rye, and barley and some of us react to oats also. So you can eat any of those to up your gluten intake for the gluten challenge. If you turn out to be celiac or NCGI, you will probably want to eat alternative flour products later, like quinoa, amaranth, potato starch, millet, almond, bean, rice... -

ARCHIVED Newbie Here - Dr. Thinks It Is Celiac Disease
GFinDC replied to Smylinacha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome Kim! Don't worry too much about being sick for the colonoscopy. They give you a clean out mixture to take the night before that will get everything clean as a whistle by the next day. Lisa is right, the endoscopy is usually used for celiac testing. they take 5 to 8 small biopsy samples for review at a lab. They check them for villi damage. The... -
ARCHIVED Just Diagnosed. How Long Till She Feels Better?
GFinDC replied to Denine's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Denine, Some of the tips below don't apply to your daughter's situation, but maybe someone else will read the thread and benefit from them. A simple diet works well for healing from celiac gut damage. Think of whole foods instead of processed foods. Foods that you would be likely to make 100 years ago. Kids are supposed to be able to heal faster... -
ARCHIVED To Go Full Out Or Not - Guten Sensitivity And The Fear Of Making It Worse
GFinDC replied to giggleburger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Giggleburger, I agree with Jebby, we don't really know what the consequences of NCGI are. It was confirmed to exist recently but that is about it. No long term studies have been done to figure out what it does to people. And the issue of damage to the gut is not resolved. The innate immune system is one of the possible players in Crohn's that I... -
ARCHIVED Depressed About Eating A Restricted Diet
GFinDC replied to rymorg2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Rymorg, Maybe you can look at it another way? You can eat as much of the non-forbidden foods as you want right? And you can combine them anyway you desire. Or modify them with various spices or flavorings or different combinations. Perhaps you can think up a special treat for yourself that you only eat when feeling deprived? Or once a year or so... -
I hear she has her hub's rub his legs with Wonderbread... kinky! Gotta agree with the things not soaking into skin. Some things may do that, but for the most part we don't have a big problem there with everyday items. Deals88, is it possible you are reacting to a perfume? Some people are sensitive to odors. like perfumes.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Toddler Had Gluten By Accident Help
GFinDC replied to Kellyrassy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Making gluten-free cakes is easy. You can get Betty Crocker gluten-free cake mixes at some grocery stores. The yellow cake mix was little gritty to me so I used to add a banana to it. It does have potato starch in it so it you are avoiding nightshades they don't work. Open Original Shared Link -

Anger, Quick Temper, Depression
GFinDC replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also had mental symptoms from gluten in the past. The title of this thread pretty much describes my symptoms, depression, anger and quick temper. At times I would become angry and not even know why. I was easily frustrated also. I had bad memory problems also, and would forget things very quickly. Sometimes when I was working on the computer if I switched... -
ARCHIVED Nonceliac Gluten Intolerance - Follow Up Care?
GFinDC replied to kvanrens1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The lactose intolerance sure lines up with celiac disease. They go hand in hand for untreated celiacs. Many people recover the ability to eat dairy though after they have healed. Pro-biotics may help with that. -
Packing her lunch for visits to daycare or mom's seems like a good idea. At least for a while to see if it makes a difference. I think it is good to review everything she is eating once in a while too. Ingredients on any processed foods, vitamins, drinks etc can change, so it is not a bad idea to review them every once in awhile. Actually every time...

Hi Kiki, I think you said the mayo didn't make you sick right? So, yes, it's the tuna. No problem, just stop eating tuna. People shouldn't eat seafood more than twice a week anyway, due to the mercury levels in some fish. You could try other kinds of fish instead, there are a lot of them out there in the sea!

ARCHIVED Celiac Or Milk Allergy Having Hard Time Telling
GFinDC replied to Liquidceliac's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi LiquidC, It is possible you are having a reaction to dairy as well as having celiac. Many celiacs have lactose intolerance at first because the damage to the villi in the gut impairs the ability to produce lactase enzyme. The lactase enzyme made by the villi is what digests the dairy sugar (lactose). Without lactase the bacteria thrive and cause... -
ARCHIVED An Interesting Story And Introduction
GFinDC replied to foam's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Foam, I am not an expert on thyroid issues but it seems your thyrotropin (TSH) level is good, it is in range. I am kind of a skeptic on the alkaline/acid idea myself. Our stomachs have hydrocloric acid in them to help digest the food we eat. That acidic food mixture gets dumped into the small intestine. The liver (gall bladder) injects chemicals... -
