  1. Get a separate, smaller gluten free cake for yourself. Should be an interesting honeymoon.
  2. If you believe in the potential of "mind power" then the ability to make yourself want and enjoy a gluten free diet is there. Nirvana ain't a Subway sandwich, and there are no magical over the counter pills that counter the auto immune reaction.
  3. Don't eat too many fruits and vegetables ? People should eat whatever makes them feel better. Good luck finding uncontaminated sunflower oil. Not likely.
  4. Yes, my hands went numb all the time, especially when I was trying to sleep, and I fumbled and dropped things, and they shook and tremored. I held my coffee cups with 2 hands so I didn't dump it on my self. Typing was very difficult. I was also tripping and limping and dragging one foot, a lot. Have to do exercises to help strengthen all the muscles...
  5. Twitching? Cramping ? Do not panic. You have only been diagnosed for 4 weeks, and it takes a lot longer for the healing to normalcy (or close) to begin. After all, it took years for you to get that way. Do google search celiac ataxia, celiac neurological symptoms, celiac thyroid symptoms, thyroid ligament syndrome, thyroid tendon. Celiac is the great...
  6. From experimenting, I have discovered that chia soaking to make a "chia gel egg" actually works better with cold water than with hot. And the longer it soaks, the more it thickens. It may take more than the equal amount of water, because it absorbs it and swells up. It can replace the gum when making mini loaves of bread, if you use certain gluten free...
  7. Sponges ? No way, it's paper towels for wipe ups, and this house is gluten free. Those things are germ vectors anyway. What about ice cubes ? My spouse used to get me with those by using hand lotion, then bare handing ice cubes into a glass for me. He's also gotten me by changing a brand of diet soda from "manufacturer says its gluten free" to one...
  8. Bring another girlfriend along next time, and introduce her as your new Official Food Taster, since the Mum -in- Law from Hell
  9. Check the label on the garlic powder and see what country it came from - China ? I've reacted to that, even tho it's supposed to be a safe brand.
  10. Dedicated gluten free bakery, tres bien ! Las Vegas is surprising good for food, anyway, this helps. Website of bakery could use a little more detail as to what various things on menu are made of, "products" page needs a bit of help. Nice pictures, but... Always excited to see more dedicated gluten-free bakeries coming up.
  11. Good article. A bit worried about this, however: Spelt is a primitive form of wheat ! SPELT IS NOT GLUTEN FREE, AND HAS NO PLACE IN A GLUTEN FREE MENU OR IN A GLUTEN FREE RESTAURANT ITEM, especially on a restaurant menu which is NOT listing safe and unsafe items on a separate menu or sidebar ! Celiac people are afraid to eat out ? Yes...
  12. The Holidays Bring Out the Crazy Questions. It is the equivalent of being told to sit at the card table with the small children, while the grownups have the real food. The one thing you don't want to do is eat out at a restaurant the day before a holiday, even if it is one with a gluten free menu and an otherwise good reputation. I eat out, most of...
  13. The only advice I would give you is to seek a counselor on how to deal with the "unsupportive" husband. If you think you "need" his support to go gluten free, you will never go gluten free. Like I don't "need" my spouse's "support" to use my inhaler during an asthma attack - my need to use a medical treatment to save my life is independent of his feelings...
  14. That was not a good write up of celiac disease's intricacies of problems with avoiding gluten, altho the beginning premise was supposedly to say that the over the counter supplements to allow gluten to be eaten were useless, which is true, the rest of the article, based on another piece fr the LA Times, was full of bad info and false assumptions. It was...
  15. Sorry for the skepticism, but.... I am really having trouble with the entire premise of this post. I can't imagine somebody letting any sort of private organization or business entity dictate when and what somebody else should eat, and when and what they should be "forced" to see a therapist - unless they were in a prison facility, not a school. This...
  16. I'm eating my treat that I made myself NOW so I don't feel "deprived" later when we go somewhere. I'd rather be healthier and busier than sick. We were in the store recently and I wanted a new open top kitchen canister to put frequently used kitchen utensils into, like spatulas and knives. I saw a pretty ceramic one and picked it up, and darned...
  17. Think of it as training yourself successfully to be gluten free.......
  18. Wow, like heck yeah ! Don't get upset with what he is saying, chamomilelover and pain-img. He's a doctor- researcher, he approaches it from that angle, but you almost never hear a doc say "I was wrong" and he's saying that !!!! He may not call a patient a diagnosed celiac, but he is saying he would call them a gluten intolerant on a spectrum...
  19. Well.... Welcome to the Unofficial 5% of the Population ~ First get written copies of all your test results. Then contact a lawyer, and see if you can get this person who couldn't follow your requests onto some sort of **** list.... like a peer review board.... do what Karen said, but have the lawyer write the letter(s). You don't want to sue this...
  20. You may need to re adjust your diet to one that is higher in protein, fat, and vegetables than the average Western World style diet which is high in grain based carbohydrates. And if you are not doing so already, you should be taking a gluten free multivitamin and B complex, calcium, and magnesium.
  21. Lehman's has a round cast iron stove top version on sale that sounds like it needs a bit of tinkering with before it makes the waffle- the reviews are interesting, alternating between "can't figure it out" to "wonderful waffles." Open Original Shared Link I tried searching pizzelle irons, which are sort of like a mini waffle iron that makes a big crispy...
  22. Dry eyes can be a result of Sjogren's. This is another associated auto immune condition which makes your eyes have trouble making tears, and your mouth gets dry from less saliva, it can also effect how you can sweat and cool yourself in hot weather. Also, your mucous will be stickier and you may have trouble clearing a cough during a chest cold (if this...
  23. Congratulations !
  24. Sounds like cross contamination. You aren't taking an over the counter acid reducer, are you ? I had a really bizarre reaction to them, which included dizziness and my eyes literally flickering. My eyeglasses optician guy figured that one out, he ought to get some sort of hero award for asking me what I was taking and connecting the symptoms to it, as...

    ARCHIVED P.f. Chang's

for whoever asked about the PF Chang's gluten-free menu: The Lemon Chicken was like the Spicy Chicken, only very intensely lemony. It is chicken chunks that are coated in a gluten-free flour and fried, then topped off with a sweet/tangy sauce. The Spicy Chicken is their gluten free version of General Tsao's, which is chicken chunks with the same treatment...
