  1. Ha! "Better living thru chemistry.... "
  2. I had so many other things go wrong with me during my life where I was either blown off or misdiagnosed, that it doesn't bother me to not have the "official diagnosis by testing" by the time it got to where it was severely neurological. Current PCP accepts self diagnosed status (around 7th year, approaching 8th) because I told him that he(( would...
  3. Some of the commercially prepared "gluten free" items are not as "gluten free" as other items. It is also not uncommon to develop lactose intolerance with gluten intolerance. You were probably having slowly developing issues with it, but it didn't realize it until it became more pronounced. Just like with the gluten intolerance. Milk has lactose...
  4. Rice pasta with white sauce (carbonara type) with ham. Rice macaroni and cheese with ham.
  5. It sounds like from the last part of your inquiry that her diet has changed by source and preparer. That combined with the symptoms of gut pain and the CT scan of the brain, seem to be pointing to gluten cross contamination as a probable cause of the ataxia. In case you are wondering, speaking only for myself, having ataxia, and then going on a strict...
  6. Not really much of a need to use wheat in anything with all the other grains available. Have somebody else taste. Otherwise - Use your nose and sense of smell - which should become more refined once you are off the gluten for awhile.
  7. I would not trust those duplicitous ***** b******s in the GM O business with "fixing" wheat for us, any farther than I could throw them. Nasty, nasty blog interactions with the pro GM O crowd re sustainable agriculture and food safety, vs. Mon san toe. Aggressive and really just always on the attack. Always pretending they are trying to "feed the...
  8. There is a popular snack bar that is gluten free that I eat all the time, but .... now I always open it up carefully and LOOK at it first before that initial bite. You can recover. But you may have just developed a new .... habit.
  9. Make them give you the test results in writing. Go to the office and refuse to leave if you have to, until somebody agrees to print it out or mail it to you. Good doctor's offices do this. Otherwise you don't know what they did and what the actual results are - and they will not necessarily always be filed correctly. You paid for it, and you own that...
  10. Ah, uhm, well.... no. My spouse switches back and forth (eats gluten free at home, and then also sometimes eats gluten free at restaurants when we go out together) and doesn't have a problem. He might go a whole weekend or several vacation days without it, and then eat a regular lunch out with no result. I, on the other hand, won't intentionally...
  11. Since you just started this gluten free routine, relatively speaking, you may be just okay with cutting out the gluten and soy in the future. And maybe the eggs. I was really strict at first (like grainless ) and was able to add in a lot of things as I healed up, but it took a while. Sometimes I read a list, and think to myself, "Oh My I Could Never...
  12. The "Bisquick" Gluten Free version is nothing more than rice flour, sugar, leavening, and a bit of potato starch and xanthan gum. I compared the Bette Crocker recipe to the standard Mexican Wedding Cookie recipe available all over the internet (and probably in my old filebox as a "snowball" ) or here it's the Russian Tea Cookie, and it is word for word...
  13. Oh, what a bummer about the tree nut allergy. You can successfully bake with almost any sort of gluten free flour mixture, if you tweak the recipe enough. 3 way mixtures, one third of each, work well, such as: rice flour /corn starch/ tapioca rice/ potato starch / tapioca rice / corn starch / potato rice / corn or potato starch...
  14. If I were you, I would make a few test pie crusts before the holiday so you can see if they work or not. I would also, if this is your first time baking any sort of pie crust, follow a set recipe. The other thing you can do is just bake the pumpkin filling as a pudding, top it with pecans, and skip the crust. That is what we do here because we use...
  15. Congratulations !
  16. While the study is interesting, I still think this repeated desire to get us back to eating wheat, just because the majority does, is not the direction we should be working on. We are the canaries in the coal mine for showing the increase in reactions to our environment due to unknown triggering factors, and we demonstrate that humans can react and adapt...
  17. Have mercy on us down here in the States. I don't know what it's like up there, but when we try to get a Rx script filled here in Profiteeria Land, we may very well be speaking to a store clerk or two on the way to being passed to the pharmacy consult, who has no idea whatsoever what we are talking about. They graduated from High School and make minimum...
  18. Have taken it for years after reading about how it was necessary to have magnesium working in concert with the other vitamins and minerals to get the full effect. I mainly was trying to prevent more bone loss (pre figuring out that it was gluten intolerance causing it) and it is used by a lot of women who are plagued with irregular periods, pain, endometriosis...
  19. If you get a toaster oven and a hot plate to add to your toolbox, you can really cook just about anything. Soup: Imagine brand makes all of these different flavored, gluten free soups in boxes. You can take a can of corn, a can of fire roasted tomatoes, and a can of black or pinto beans, rinse the beans well in a colander first, and mix them together...
  20. Open Original Shared Link Zojirushi recipes page Open Original Shared Link Recipe, gluten free bread, Zojirushi, from their Recipes page Open Original Shared Link Gluten free bread, Zoj, Ingredients (for 2-lb. breadmaker): 1-1/2 cups milk or water; 3 large eggs, beaten; 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar; 1/8 cup vegetable oil; ...
  21. Dog food - Natural Balance limited ingredient diets. They have a lot of different combinations for pets with allergies. Some of the combinations sound sort of funky to human appetites, but the dogs really like it. They also make cat foods.
  22. Typical symptoms of cross contamination, including emotional blues. Plus we are nearly to the shortest day of the year, where everybody tends to be light deprived in the Northern Hemisphere. Once you get the diet figured out, you will feel better, but there is a learning curve. Try taking a gluten free multivitamin, a B complex, and a calcium...
  23. _______ Aha ! Save the evidence, says Soy Scene Investigation !
  24. That's what I thought, some Nestle's products are gluten free. There's a difference in manufacturing and packaging an item containing a single ingredient like canned pumpkin or instant coffee, and making a complicated dinner meal entree with "sauce" or "glaze," with myriad ingredients which may be from who knows what country of origin. There's a...
  25. We only have one of the gluten free brownie boxes in the cupboard pantry, and it just says "contains soy ingredients" on it. Presumably from the soy lecithin which is listed in the "semi sweet chocolate chips" part, after "sugar." I'm in northern CA, btw.
