  1. It would be a good idea to get a copy of the report of the endoscopy to see whatever that unpronounceable word was
  2. I is having excruciating loading times too; some of the admin links never do load. Now part of this is because Clay is cheapskate and never buys enough broadband per month and they cut us back to dial-up speed (no, which does not load in the "blink" of an eye), but even so, it should eventually..... load. Ho-hum. Only five more days to go until warp...
  3. I agree with the previous poster that probably the most important thing in diagnosis is finding a doctor who is familiar with celiac disease and its manifestations. This is a disease that flies under the radar of a good percentage of medical professionals, although they do seem to be more willing to consider it in children than in adults because the "failure...
  4. Your mother-in-law is not a twit, she is rude and obnoxious. Sorry but there is no other way of putting it. Can your husband just tell her to MHOB? In a nice way, of course Yep, when even the waitress feels sorry for you, you know the problem is not yours And I don't know how you exist on $55, and for some of us organic meats are important, and...
  5. Hi, and welcome to the forum. It is a pity that he did not have you do the test before you stopped eating gluten. After that long gluten free it is really hard to draw any conclusions from your test. Six months after going gluten free my fecal anti-gliadin IGA was 145 So everyone is different in their reactions and their intensity and how long they...
  6. When you say DH, has this been confirmed by a skin biopsy? Or is this the biopsy the doctor is sending you for? As the previous poster said, if you have confirmed DH, you have celiac disease. The biopsy needs to be taken from clear skin immediately adjacent to the suspected DH lesion. This is a much cheaper and less invasive biopsy than the EGD.
  7. The thought of it is much worse than the reality. You won't feel or remember a thing and the only likely after effect may be a slight sore throat.
  8. I would think the Nanaimo support group would probably have some good information for you - worth a try anyway! They might meet in the evenings even.
  9. I think it is time to do something else to help yourself since no one seems to be offering anything else. I'm talking about digestive enzymes to help you digest your food. It is probable that you have an impaired GI system, and that your pancreas is not currently functioning as it should. The enzymes provide the gut with what it needs to break down the...
  10. Any birthday with a zero on the end of it comes as shock But hey, your thirties are going to be great as soon as you get this thing licked. I noticed sandsurgirl recommended you eliminate dairy, and that you mentioned you were eating cheese. Are you still eating dairy? If so, I would agree with her recommendation to eliminate it for now and challenge...
  11. How about a ferry trip to Vancouver? T'is is a pleasant voyage if I recall, from Nanaimo, if the sea is right
  12. Hi, and welcome to the forum. There are over 30 feet of small intestine in your body, and the damage gluten causes can be patchy and is easily missed if the doctor does not take the samples from the right places. So yes, a false negative is not uncommon on endoscopy. If the procedure tomorrow does not produce any positive results I would still give the...
  13. Welcome to the forum, FLmom. I am so sorry your daughter is so sick while away from home. It is hard to be a long-distance mom! First of, there is a difference between an allergy and an intolerance. An allergy produces an IgE response, while celiac/intolerance produces an IgG and IgA response. I am no expert on the fine points of biochemistry, but...
  14. I am sorry you live in an underserved medical area It is true that the most common reaction celiacs receive from the medical profession is skepticism and put-downs. Doctors should believe more of what they read!! Then they would be more educated. The trouble is that most of them do not read their own medical journals and keep up to date. Any doctor...
  15. Yeah, but, isn't that always the way Just when you get good at something they change the rules!! I used to make a really mean sourdough rye boule Now I'm struggling to make something with a decent crust on it. But I'll get there But Redbridge beer isn't bad, especially if you wait a while and forget what the other used to taste like And...
  16. Dr. Fine from Enterolab has not yet published his research in any peer-reviewed medical journal.
  17. I would think the way to find out is to stop eating it altogether Potatoes give me hives and I don't eat them For me it takes bit longer, about 4-6 hours.
  18. It is also possible that you might be deficient in many nutrients due to improper food absorption in the gut. Those crucial nutrients which should be tested include Vits. D, B12 and folate, calcium and ferritin (iron). Also, have your thyroid tested, TSH, free T4 and free T3. Deficiencies in any of these areas can cause you to feel weak and tired and will...
  19. Are you on or off gluten? If you are on I suggest you go off It is quite possible to be non-celiac gluten intolerant; in fact for every celiac it is estimated by Dr. Rodney Ford that there are two to three gluten intolerants. It is possible that the hormonal changes of pregnancy gave you a "temporary vacation" from your gluten problems, just as for...
  20. Reading the article all the way through puts the statement in context a little. However, there does seem to be evidence for a genetic predisposition to develop leaky gut in the first place, which was omitted from the article, maybe because the research is still ongoing.
  21. It's called gluten withdrawal. I was exactly like that after I quit smoking
  22. To confirm a celiac diagnosis the GI performs an endoscopy which inspects the small intestine to see if there is damage to the villi. This tube is inserted down the throat and through the stomach while you are under sedation (not anesthesia). You will not have any awareness of the procedure when you awaken. It is usually painless although some people do...
  23. One has to wonder how the gluten abnormally appeared in the body Could it be because of leaky gut??? Do you have the reference for this statement?
  24. I consumed a product labelled gluten free, contains wheat fibre, and I wished I hadn't. I didn't feel THAT bad, but I didn't feel good
  25. Hi, and welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have come to the right place. You will note from my signature that I have followed a similar path to you. The first thing you need is to ask your PCP for a celiac blood test which consists of the following: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue...
