  3. The proper way for a pathologist to start his report is to describe the samples he received, as in the number, their size, their color, their appearance, and where they were labelled as being taken from. He then details what he sees (or doesn't see) under the microscope. If you see words you don't understand it often helps to google into an online...

  5. It is certainly possible you could be in early stages of celiac disease, or gluten intolerance, and it might be worthwhile to get yourself tested at this point. Your primary care doctor can order the testing, known as a celiac panel: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA...
  6. Most of those with DH describe it as being intensely itching, as being also burning/stinging and painful. Is this the way it felt for you? I am not familiar with acne being described in this way. BUT, it has cleared or is clearing on a gluten free diet. Yay!! If you don't want to go back on gluten for testing, you will have to be content with self...
  7. My understanding from what I have read on the board is that DH takes the longest time to resolve. The autoimmune antibodies seem to hang around in the skin longer than in the bloodstream or the gut and the symptoms, unfortunately resolve very slowly. For some the DH is very sensitive to iodine, for others not so much. For some the Dapsone works quite quickly...
  8. Oh my, sisterlynr, that looks really painful. You poor dear
  9. I believe hair loss probably belongs to the celiac category in general, although mine is accompanied by psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis in my scalp too. You just cannot have these conditions in your scalp, from my experience, and expect your hair to be gorgeous and full and healthy I do not have DH but my hair is currently in a falling out by the...
  10. Oh, I am so sorry to hear that, Gnickers. I take back my (slightly) snippy words, and you can have your old job back!! Stay strong, sending love and {{{{hugs}}}}
  11. And super good to see you back and eating well, also, I see! Good for hubs.
  12. The usual genes they test for are DQ2 and DQ8; there are, however, other genes recognized as celiac genes in Europe. Do you know if any of your relatives have had genetic testing? or even celiac testing? In the meantime, I would continue to call myself 'celiac' to increase the chance of being taken seriously. No one can prove you are not.

  14. There are plenty of substitute milks out there to use - almond, hemp, rice (other than Rice Dream which is filtered with barley and many have problems with), even coconut; I personally do not recommend soy milk, but that is your choice
  15. You may or may not have celiac, but it does sound like you might be gluten intolerant. There are several other tests which make up the celiac panel, which consists of the following: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum...
  16. I don't think your self-diagnosis is at all crazy, with your family history. We know the genetic predisposition had to come from you or your husband, and you are the prime candidate. But don't go gluten free, if you don't think you will believe yourself in the future, until you've been tested, because once off gluten it's hard to go back on.

  18. It's called pre-puke, or trying not to puke. I sometimes get like that if my body is rejecting all the supplements I just took and I am trying to keep them down Once, I did not succeed
  19. I imagine if gluten made you feel really crappy in the past, which was the reason you gave it up, you would have to wait until you feel really crappy again to be sure that you have reactivated all your gluten antibodies
  20. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do A new paragraph is just hitting enter twice - no formatting necessary.
  21. This is a very old post that you are responding to so any information may be out of date and the posters are no longer frequenting the forum to see your reply.
  22. Generally speaking, according to the definitions of celiac disease (villous atrophy) and NCGI (no intestinal damage) if you are NCGI you 'should' be able to digest lactose (milk sugars). Those with villous atrophy usually cannot because the enzyme lactase is made at the tips of the villi which atrophy in celiac, so therefore it is absent until healing takes...
  23. Hello, and welcome Kyla. Yes, I am sorry to say that after three weeks gluten free there is no way to guarantee that the testing will be an accurate result. Antibodies retreat from the bloodstream if there is no gluten there to fight. Do you have a PCP who could fax in a blood test lab slip for you so you don't have to wait for an appointment? You...
