  1. I'd read somewhere that your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy, to keep you from rejecting the baby. This lowers your celiac reactions, since that is also an immune system response. You may not be getting as much damage from the gluten during pregnancy as you would otherwise - however, you and your baby will both probably feel better if you try...
  2. This has a link to a popular multigrain gluten-free bread. Personally, when I tried it, it flopped and i didnt even like the flavor, but most people rave about it: Open Original Shared Link This has some good baking tips: Open Original Shared Link
  3. First of all, there is no lactose in mayonaise -- i just read the ingredients on my hellmans, just to make sure. There is eggs, tho, and there may be soy oil. Many people also have problems with eggs and soy. Many people do find their other sensitivities become more obvious when they quit gluten - probably because your stomach was so inflamed already...
  4. My current standard breakfast is grits with peaches and sunflower seeds . .. you could sub another hot cereal, of course, but I find it quite yummy and satisfying!
  5. Me too! I havent made bread in a while since i tested reactive to rice and yeast, but every bread I made fell. I do believe I'd let them rise too long before baking, but havent had a chance to test that out yet. Its so frustrating because I baked so much before!
  6. One of the things I really liked in the introduction in the gluten-free cookbook I bought (gluten-free baking basics) - she said that the taste you miss when you make gluten-free bread, is the taste of the wheat. Wheat tastes good, and you can make breads which perform somewhat like wheat breads, but they will never TASTE like wheat breads, because nothing...
  7. Some symptoms can take a while to go away. For me, the stomach was a day, but headaches were several weeks. . .. but is there something you are substituting for gluten which could be bothering him? For me, the tapioca in all the gluten-free breads and cookies made me sick, others notice problems with dairy or soy.
  8. I guess making them at home is out of the question? Buy some ore-ida and fry them at home . . . .
  9. Natural fabrics (cotton, esp) will shrink more than man-made fibers like polyester. Some cotton items will specify 'pre-shrunk' somewhere on the label. Most pants will stretch back out after you wear them a bit. Also, try using a lower temperature setting on your washer and dryer to minimize shrinkage. Just wondering how old you are, if you are just...
  10. I think you are saying she only has horrible gas when you give her yoghurt, but not when you give her formula, right? If thats the case, just stop with the yoghurt. I think the formulas process the milk so that its easier to digest. Obvously, quit feeding her yoghurt. I would also suggest holding off on any other dairy for a while and add very cautiously...
  11. I have been on a very limited diet, but I was trying to ignore the candida aspect of my problems for now . . . i'm only eating 22 foods, at least let me have some sugar! BUt i started having green yucks coming out of me and I couldnt figure out what was doing it. I eliminated the sugar and took an oral anti-fungal which my ob-gyn had prescribed for me...
  12. Here's a recipe I found, and the first try I made w my alterations in parenthesis (was a half recipe). I tried it again recently using only corn meal, corn starch, potato flour and potato starch, and olive oil. It wasnt perfect, but it still worked. As long as there's 1 c flours and 1 c starches it seems good. Also, I found that if i formed balls of...
  13. Hey, I also took the A.L.C.A.T test. I had only been gluten free (and dairy free) for about 2 weeks, and i came up with a mild reaction to gluten and dairy, which suprised me a little - because after a month off of them, I'd not only lost my intestinal symptoms, but also headaches and depression and fatigue. I ended up calling and talking to someone there...
  14. I think I read this somewhere in reference to getting a child on the autism spectrum on to a Gluten-free Casein-free diet - she said to take it really slowly. For example, they said to first come up with new breakfast foods that they liked, until you have breakfast totally gluten free without trouble. then work on lunch. Honestly, even if you and your...
  15. Being gluten free can definitely affect the test, but everyone is different. If you are willing, you might want to try eating gluten again until your test. I had been gluten free almost 2 mo when I had the test, which was negative. However, my allergy test came up positive for wheat, barley and malt, so whether i have celiac or not, I'm not eating gluten...
  16. OMG, thats wild! I SO wish we could push for the AMA to make that a recomendation, a protocol for all crohns, colitis and ibs patients. 85-90% positive! Wild!
  17. I was doing great on my elimination diet until hay fever season ... i started having oral allergy syndrome, where foods i wasnt allergic to before (oranges, in this case) suddenly caused sores in my mouth and unpleasantness when coming out. I wonder if it could be that? the dye sounds like a likely candidate, too, tho
  18. Sometimes you start noticing other sensitivities - i think I started realizing other things were bothering me around 3 months. Well, I realized that Tapioca bothered me earlier than that, because every time I ate a gluten-free baked good, i got sick. Watch your diet and your reactions and see if it could be something else. Often dairy is a problem (i quit...
  19. I think it took about 2 months for my fatigue and pain to go away, and i've heard others say it took longer depending on how sick they were. If you have an apt to see your doctor, I'd be sure to talk to them about it. Did you have fibromyalgia symptoms before going gluten-free? Some on these forums have gotten rid of it going gluten-free, and hopefully...
  20. I was honestly starting to wonder if it was yeast related. I stopped eating candy and marshmallows and took an oral med for yeast my gyn had given me. The green slime seemed to stop. Then I ended up with the flu and bronchitis and an ear infection, so i'm on anti-fungal and anti-biotic . . . here comes the yeasties again . . . i really appreciate all...
  21. I made one attempt which was . . . edible. I made the white sauce out of coconut milk - its called Basic Dairy-Free White Sauce on a website called Rachel's recipe box (I dont think links word?). She recomends a lot of seasonings. I added vegan gourmet cheese and put it over deboles corn elbows. I ate it, but didnt much enjoy it. However, I froze small...
  22. My first attempt at gluten-free bread was a foccaccia which was pretty nice. But then i tried the multi=grain miracle bread which people rave about all over the web (including on this site) and it fell and tasted bitter. Then I reacted to yeast on an allergy test and gave up. I do think part of my problem was that i let the breads rise too long - like...
  23. Ok, then, obvious answer - dont drop the gluten-free diet, DROP THE WEIGHT-WATCHERS! A few extra pounds is MUCH better for you than eating gluten! Get healthy first, get really solid on the gluten-free thing, and maybe worry about your weight on your NEXT new years resolution! For now, be happy, healthy and gluten free . .. and eat chocolate!
  24. Just remember there are lots of foods which are naturally gluten free - any meat roast with baked potatos, mashed potatos or sweet potatos - just skip the rolls and eat more veggies. I started making fried rice (ok, with organic wheat-free soy sauce) and my family loved it. I also have a quick and easy jambalaya recipe, i just bought an all-natural sausage...
  25. I also want to point out that you can experiment w being gluten-free without making a huge investment - mashed potatoes or french fries and meat and veggies and fruit . . . all gluten free. However, as bad as you've been for as long as you've been bad, you will probably have other food intolerances too One thing I picked up along the way here, somehow...
