While ago I posted about what can I substitute tapioca flour/starch with. I received back two replies to sub with arrowroot sub 1:1. The only arrowroot I could find was Arrowroot, Powder. I just wanted to check before I did the substituting to make sure this is correct b/c the people in the health food store looked at me iffy about it when I said what...

ARCHIVED Thermos
GlutenGalAZ replied to GlutenGalAZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you for the info. That is a really good idea to put hot water in the thermos while you are making the food or getting ready in the am to make it hotter longer -- thanks I saw at the store the 10oz Thermos the other day, I am thinking then that I would get the 17oz or so wide mouth thermos (saw online). Thanks again -
I am looking into buying a thermos to use at work and day trips. There is a microwave at work that I use off and on but with so many other people using it and then making sure it is clean each time is time consuming. What type of thermos and size have you found is useful? I was thinking Wide Mouth so I can eat out of it and not have to worry about...

ARCHIVED Help! I Hate To Cook!
GlutenGalAZ replied to minnowjoy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the past I never really cared to cook and if my husband and I cooked it was always something quick and simple like mac and cheese or chicken nuggets in the oven (majority of the time fast food). But since going gluten free last year we eat at home all the time. I have slowly gotten into cooking and this past month have started to try a lot of new things... -
ARCHIVED Supplements
GlutenGalAZ replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are the supplements you are or were taking gluten free? I like Nature Made. Centrum changed their formula this past year and they cannot say that it is gluten free. I called them a couple months ago and they said that they hope sometime in the near future they will be gluten free again. My husband can eat gluten but he gets upset stomachs when he... -

Here is a link that shows companies that will list gluten ingredients if present: Open Original Shared Link If you have not found a bread yet that you like I would recommend home made bread. I make mine in the oven and then freeze it (you just stick it in the microwave for like 10-15 seconds them in the toaster). Home made bread is A LOT better than... -
ARCHIVED Food
GlutenGalAZ replied to cazzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried a couple store bought breads in the beginning and could not find any that I liked. I make my bread in the oven using Gluten Free Pantry White Sandwich Bread. It is really good and not too many ingredients. I would definately agree though that home made breads taste a lot better than store bought. GOOD LUCK -
ARCHIVED Cheese
GlutenGalAZ replied to cazzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get Great Value Shredded Cheese (states on the back gluten free) and Kroger brand. Yogurt sometimes bothers me but I occasionally get Yoplait (there are a couple that are not gluten free so look at ingredients). Some people when going gluten free cannot tolerate dairy in the beginning till their body heals then you can try to re-introduce dairy products... -

ARCHIVED Ramen?
GlutenGalAZ replied to burnonedown's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree with the Tahi Kitchen noodles. I got some recently and a little goes a long way. You can find them at a lot of stores (Target, regular grocery stores, health food stores). They have thin noodles that will be similar to ramen noodles (well kind of). They are also really easy and quick to make. -
ARCHIVED Pre-packaged Kellogg's Rice Krispie Treats?
GlutenGalAZ replied to scott-in-pa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
scott_in_pa If you like Rice Krispie Treats... The other month I got Erewhon brand cereal -- 100% Whole Grain Cereal Crispy Brown Rice (gluten free) and made krispie treats using Kraft Jet Puffed marshmallows. Still used the recipe on the bag (making sure all ingredients were gluten free) and split it in half so I didn't have to make a lot. They turned... -
I am on medication for my pulse. I have done 2-24hr monitors and 1-30 day monitor. There are pads that are for sensitive skin (I try to always get these). Before I forget -- when you take the pads off (after the monitor is unhooked) I recommend taking the sticky pads off in the shower, if you have a problem removing them. Sometimes if you are reacting...

ARCHIVED Living With A Non-celiac Family
GlutenGalAZ replied to NorthernElf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I eat gluten free while my husband does not. We have separate counters in the kitchen. When my parenst come to visit I explain to watch out with containers and hamburger buns etc (they are nice about it but are not use to it so it tends to slip their mind). In our refridgerator we have separate butter and jam containers (I put a cute sticker on mine... -

GlutenGalAZ replied to RainyZ's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is great that you are already noticing some positive changes Is your daughter drinking dairy? Some people who can tolerate dairy can have a problem with it when going off of gluten while their stomach is healing. Some are able to re-introduce dairy back in their diet after a while. Another thing to think about are baby products i.e. baby... -

GlutenGalAZ replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are you taking any vitamines? My doctor did some blood work on me and I was low on Vitamin B12 -- once I started taking B12, Multi Vitamin and another vitamin I started to get more engery and concentrate better at work. ARCHIVED Do Those Spray Sunscreens Contain Gluten?
GlutenGalAZ replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I use Banana Boat Sunscreen (but the lotion kind). Called them last summer (very nice) and from what I remember all is gluten free but the tanning type lotions/sunscreens. I would call the 800 line and ask about the one you purchased. Even pull up their website and see what other sunscreens you may be interested in and ask about those too. You... -
Karli -- We cook whole pork loin for dinners in the oven at about 325-350 (325=cookbook temp and 350 was on the package). Ours are normally about 3-4 pounds though so we have left overs. The side with any type of fat we face that down. Cook about 1hr 45minutes-2hours (temp of meat about 160). We sprinkle some pepper on it in the beginning and about half...

Made one packet had a reaction and started to connect the dots from foods I had problems with during the past year. The Gluten Free Panty... -

ARCHIVED Where Do I Buy Hamburger And Hot Dog Bun Molds?
GlutenGalAZ replied to cindylouhoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I just bought the Increditble Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids book -- By Sheri L. Sanderson. In the book she has a recipe for hot dog buns -- I have not tried it yet but... you take a 12" long strip of foil and fold it in half to 6" long then in half again to 3" long and in half again until the foil is a thick strip about 1.5 inches tall. ARCHIVED Storing gluten-free Flours
GlutenGalAZ replied to munkee41182's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry this is kind of a silly question but...Please correct me if I am not reading this right My understanding is that if I use the glass containers (good seal) and freez it, when I take out the conatiner I pretty much just set it on the counter and wait till it is about room temp and then it is safe to open (so it doesn't get the moisture inside like...
