  1. I'm so glad to be alive and back on the internet in time for both major celiac Easter problems-the communion wafer issue and "do Cadbury's eggs contain gluten?" I hope things work out well for the individuals who wish to take communion this Easter.
  2. How about a... Sed rate C-reactive protein B-12 D (or ADEK if he feels adventurous That should cover some possible immune and vitamin sources of fatigue-very broadly, there are a lot more specific tests. Have you had and ANA before?
  3. I hope you can get on the Oregon Health Plan soon. Here is a fun article about celiac associated disorders Open Original Shared Link
  4. Most wheat bread ends up being donated or discarded. I found this out when I lived in Portand and had a friend who worked at a major grocery store there and was in charge of taking the bread to the donation place. A ton of bread ends up not getting sold. Big bread companies can afford that because they deal in quanity... Also I need to remember never to get...
  5. Ghee is butter with all the milk solids out. Otherwise known as clarified butter. Its shelf stable and can be used for everything from frying to makeup remover. You can make it yourself or buy it in jars. Its like the universal solvent in Indian cooking. Open Original Shared Link The proton pump inhibitors (such as nexium) just made me worse, as well as...
  6. How strict is your priest? You have the approved low gluten wheat starch ones, the unapproved no wheat starch ones..... Open Original Shared Link
  7. (being silly here, hope you understand ) Your wife better watch it, you're on this list with a whole bunch of celiac women who would love to be living with a man that shares their issues and who does all the grocery shopping and cooking (swoon)
  8. Sphincter of oddi dysfunction can cause a sense of pressure just under your ribs. This long article will lull you to sleep and make you forget all about it... Open Original Shared Link
  9. There are many other things which might cause the villi to be flattened, but almost all of them are things the gastro should be following up on. You may wish to get your records and seek another opinion if the doctor has not scheduled any follow up after discovering this significant symptom. Also do make sure your surgeon is aware of this issue. He or she...

    ARCHIVED Sad

Once you go gluten free you may very well find that the symptoms of your eating disorder resolve. Like violet says, a specalist can help you work through all this. My dietician is the best-even though I'm perfectly cool with the diet now, we still chat! Now that your relationship with food has changed forever its a great time to approach healing ((((...
  11. Or, in my case, suffer the agony of acute pancreatitis yet again. My friend Terry recently died of acute pancreatitis, went in the hospital just after midnight and was dead before noon. Chronic pancreatitis can develop silently, then one acute attack and you're gone. Not that I'm trying to scare you or anything Open Original Shared Link

    ARCHIVED Help!

That is absolutely true. In Samter's Immunologic Diseases it says that "before the discovery of Dapsone as an effective therapy for this disease the most common cause of mortality in dermatitis herpetiformis was suicide prompted by intractable puritis and complicated by skeptical physician reaction..."

ARCHIVED Recommend A Doctor In You State

I can't help you with North Carolina but if you'd care to hop over to South Carolina everybody at MUSC Digestive Disease Center has been great Open Original Shared Link My primary doc recently retired but if you call you should find someone sensible Their diet sheet is kind of amusing. Oh look, you can eat a dead fish! Open Original Shared Link...
  14. I have Sjogren's so going out into the sun puts me into a flare (not to mention the awful rash). Cod liver oil is supposed to be very good, I know Dr. Mercola recommends it, but it makes me very nauseated Maybe that will clear up eventually. I know the prescription stuff is supposed to be less bioavailable.
  15. When I did the gluten death match, I mean gluten challenge (yep, I've been through the whole wringer of diagnostics ) it took me three weeks to get really sick again after being off the crap for months. Man I wish I had not done that. I don't think that did my health any good.
  16. I love natto. Its like the soy version of gorgonzola Footnoting the suppliment list: As malabsorbing girl, I have to take 15000 iu of D twice a week, or have shots. That honkin huge dose barely has my serum D levels above the minimum (32) after a year. I want a new small intestine.
  17. HCL is hydrochloric acid-the acid we have in our stomachs. Some people find it aids in digestion. And helps prevent food poisoning. bromelain is an enzyme derived from pineapple, its good for digestion, and sinus infections and other inflamatory stuff Papain is an enzyme derived from Papaya, it breaks down the proteins in meat (that is why its used...
  18. I keep bees and I can absolutely assure you that you do not want to be consuming bee pollen if you are celiac. Bees will happily pick up any dust like substance if there is not sufficent pollen to meet there needs. During the recent drought, despite my feeding them pollen cakes (which are made up of defatted soy and other ingredients) they were picking all...
  19. My "IBS" turned out to be sphincter of oddi dysfunction and chronic pancreatitis. Thank goodness for informed doctors at major medical centers! My aunt's "IBS" was ovarian cancer, and she died.
  20. Some people also find that the fatty acids in flax make them sleepless. I switched to Expecta for that reason. If you want endless discussions (and knock down drag out fights) over the various Omega 3's possibly keeping you awake (or even potentiating mania) search for that topic on crazymeds. I'm warning you though, its a lot like the wheat glucose, vinegar...
  21. Sometimes people have such severe allergies that they have to spend a period of time on special predigested hypoallergenic formula (such as neocate baby formula) to heal. This is a condition called Eosinophilic gastroenteritis. Its very painful and can develop in anybody with food allergies/intolerance. Open Original Shared Link They thought I had this...
  22. The dental school gave me sedation.I had Nitrous and also conscious sedation, the works. They do everything at dental school they do at any dental practice.
  23. For me, green stools indicate the presence of bile. Bile salts are green. This can also happen if you are taking iron suppliments. If your stool is green often, you may wish to mention this to your doc. Now, if it ever turns white, that indicates a blockage in the bilary tree and is "run screaming to the ER" time. I've had white stool and that's freaky...
  24. I'm on Plaquenil for my Sjogrens, it worked quicker than two months. more like two weeks. Hopefully after you go gluten free things will get a lot better, you can get off the steroids and be healthier (and loose the 'roid bloat) Have you seen a Rheumy? You don't sound like a mystery, you sound like an undiagnosed celiac
  25. If you have no dental insurance one option which worked out really well for me is to go to the nearest dental school (if there is one in your area) its lightyears cheaper and the students do great work. The ones I saw were very careful and considerate.
